After completing his morning training of the day, which consisted of kick where u swept your leg then instantly kicked backwards with it, Ray quickly washed off his morning sweat, washed and dried his close to make them as fresh as possible and put them back on in time for his date with Lilly.
Once he was ready, he stood outside the castle doors and waited for Lilly like she did for him. He was waiting for about 5 minutes before Lilly opened the door, dressed in the fur clothes that Ray had made for her all that time ago.
“Are you ready?”, Ray asked holding out his hand.
“Yeah. I can’t wait to see what you’ve got planned.”, Lilly says with a smile.
“D-don’t expect too much.”, Ray says, laughing awkwardly.
The pair stand before the bulletin board full of job requests in the city's guild, they were currently stood at the side of the board that had jobs classed obsidian and metal.
“So, what's the plan for today?” Lilly asked Ray excitedly.
“Well... It's not very date, but I thought it would be cool if we took like a stack of jobs, completed them and used the profit made to use that to eat.”, Ray said sheepishly.
“So, it's an activity date where we’re working for the funds to pay for our food?”, Lilly asks.
“Y-yeah. Do you not like the idea?”, Ray asked nervously.
“No, in fact it sounds fun. It's exactly the type of thing I thought you’d come up with. It also explains why we have our adventuring gear.”, Lilly said as she shuffled the back on her back and pulled on the string of her bow that she wore diagonally along her back, the bow string a pulling tight against her.
“Yep... though maybe we should buy some new adventures clothes soon.”, Ray stated. As he looked at his own clothes that were burnt, ripped and had unwastable stains of blood in the brown fur.
They continued to scan the board for possible jobs to take, they were looking for the most difficult ones as they would pay the most, as well as potentially being more challenging. As they scanned the packed board Ray spotted a job request, it was a metal request. “In need of the stingers from venom-hornets.”, at the bottom of the request there was reward, for every singer, they would be awarded 10 bronze nuggets.
50 (bronze) nuggets = 1 (silver) ingot.
100 (silver) ingots/5,000 (bronze) nuggets = 1 (gold) coin.
“This one may be a good one.”, Ray says showing Lilly the job request.
“Just 5 stingers would get us 1 ingot?... wait... how many nuggets is a coin again?”, Lilly says amazed.
“5,000.”, Ray answers, causing Lillys jaw to drop, which made Ray laugh. She had never had to worry about money being a princess and it seemed that she didn’t realise just how blessed she was and that some people live on only making nuggets a day and may never once get to lay their hands on a coin.
“A basic meal here at the adventure's guild tavern are only 3 ingots so 150 nuggets, meaning 2 meals are 300 nuggets. So that all we need, however it would be better to stockpile my funds so that's why I think we should take a few.”.
“Well, if we can find a hive, we’ll be able to make quite a lot.”, Lilly states.
“Yeah, should be fun, besides this is by far the best mission at this level, I want to level up so I can take jobs like that.”, Ray says pointing at the platinum ranked missions and seeing rewards of 10 coins.
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
“Oooo that's roughly my pocket money for the week.”, Lilly stated. This news caused Rays jaw to drop, but he quickly recovered, this was to be expected, after all, she was a princess.
“Alright I’ve chosen one, now it's your turn.”.
Lilly scanned the board once again and found another metal ranked job quest, “10 lizard tails needed.”, the reward was 10 nuggets per lizard tail, totalling an income of 100 nuggets or 2 ingots.
“This one she asks?”.
“Sure.”, Ray responds.
The 2 of them walk over to the reception desk and stand in the line of adventures taking requests. Being nosey, Ray looks at the job of the guy standing in front of them, it was a metal ranked quest and the mission was to collect the 5 silk sacks of giant spiders, the reward read 10 ingots. However, as Ray looked at the man in front of him, he didn’t look like he could take on one giant spider let alone 5.
As they reached the front of the que, they were reunited with the same woman that had introduced them to the guild, spotting Rays unique hair and Lilly, she greeted them with a war smile.
“It’s good to see you 2 again, Ray Smith and princess.”.
“W-wait you remember who we are?”, Ray asks slightly confused and impressed.
“Well of course, with your uniquely vibrant hair and her being royalty it's hard not to remember. So, what can I do to help you today.”. she says kindly.
Ray shows her the job quests and slides them onto the counter, just before Ray can remove his hand however she accidently brushed it with hers.
“Sorry about the sir.”, She says with a slight smile on her face.
“N-no problem.”, Ray says awkwardly. As Lilly stares daggers at the receptionist.
After registering the quests to both Ray and Lilly and bidding them farewell, the 2 set off on their journey.
As they reached the exit to the city, they once again spotted that annoying guard who was almost there, as they approached, he kissed his teeth in annoyance. The other guard was a lot nicer, offering the pair a warm smile.
“Where are you two off to again... wait, oh princess no, don’t tell me you're on a date with this red-haired freak?”, He says a mix of disappointment, jealousy and condescendence in his tone and demeanor.
This guy for some reason hated Ray, but he had no idea why... well he did, but that was so long ago now he needed to let go of that little threat.
Annoyed by what the guard said, Lilly clung onto Rays arm, pressing her chest up against Rays arm, causing Ray to go red.
“Yep.”, she said firmly, wagging her tail as they continued past the guard.
“I swear one day I’m gonna gut you, you cocky bastard.”, The guard muttered under his breath.
Ray looked back at the guard, just about picking up on what he said and smiled.
“Come at me any time you sniveling bitch.”, Ray thought to himself as they slowly disappeared into the jungle.
As Ray and Lilly walked deeper and deeper into the jungle, Lilly still clung to Rays arm, they searched for the nest of a hornet. It took them a good while to find one, however eventually they came across a swarm of them.
“What should we do?”, Lilly asked. Still clung to his arm.
“We should wait and watch them, then, follow them to their nest. If we killed them now it may take us ages to find one.”.
The pair followed the hornets for a while as they pollinated giant flowers, luckily none of them were Venus's death chompers, giant Venus's fly traps with jaws of jagged teeth and a digestive system that allowed them to cough up a sleeping gas.
Eventually the swarm flew off and upwards towards a giant nest, so big in fact that Ray thought that this was a clear hazard to leave here unattended. Ray looked at Lilly and grinned.
“Hello money.”.
