Ray continued his journey through the dungeon tunnels, he had found the entrance to the dungeon and realised the sun was unbearably bright decided not venture any further for now, "could this be because I'm classed as an undead monster?", Ray thought to himself. However, that wasn’t what he was looking for, he was looking for something different and then, after a long time of wandering around and killing monsters, he finally found what he was looking for, the staircase to the next floor, in Evo: online, the further down you venture in the dungeons, the more imposing the monsters were, if this was just a game Ray would have ran down there in a heartbeat, however this was real life. Ray decided to stay on the first floor, however he marked the way to the staircase with a dagger he had looted from a decapitated goblin. Ray carried on walking along the tunnels, in search of new monsters, the problem with the first floor was there wasn’t a lot of monsters and so it was hard to come across them, he rounded a corner when he bumped into a group of 3 slimes squirming about, he didn’t want to deal with more slimes but they were the only things he had come across in the last 15 minutes and he needed to level up as soon as possible.
Fighting slimes also had its benefits, they were great for learning the “piercing strike.” skill as you need a lot of precision to strike their cores and so practicing on Slimes should help him develop this skill. Ray thought, if he just repeated the moves over and over again, he may learn them, it was only a hypothesis, but with no knowledge on the real-life schematics of this world, it was the only option that made sense to him. “If that's the case I should try and replicate all the basic swordsman skills I remember the moves too, like quick slash, downward strike and sword throw”. Ray pointed his swords at the group of slimes, as one of them leaped at Ray he lunged forwards, focused on the red core, he thrust his blade forwards and grazed the core, cracking it. As the slime began to engulf the sword, he flung the slime to the side, he then heard the wet squelching of the other two slimes as they simultaneously jumped for him, this time he put the sword to his him and dashed forwards and sliced, this time he managed to slice through their cores. “Finally.”
The other slime, that had been weakened by his core having cracks on it tried to squelch away, but Ray was leaving no survivors.
Ray continued wandering around when he came across a door, if he had eyes, they would have lit up with excitement, this was a chance to get some new loot. He tentatively opened the door expecting a trap or monsters or something but there was no insight, he scanned the dark room when he spotted it, a rickety old chest sat in the far-right corner of the room, excitedly he ran over to the chest and flung it open. Inside were a pair of old brown leather boots, a sliver dagger, an attachable pouch and a scroll of paper. “What a shit chest.”. Ray thought dejected; his excitement gone. He put on the boots, luckily, they were his size, and buckled the pouch around his waist, he was slowly looking more like a game character, well except for his food and blood covered blue hoodie and grey tracksuit bottoms he had been teleported here in. Ray picked up the knife, placing it in the pouch and picked up the scroll, as he unraveled it, it read, in this world's human language, “Scroll of fire magic: beginner spell, fire bolt.”. as soon as Ray read it, a familiar robotic voice sounded in his head “Fire magic: beginner spell, fire bolt. Learnt.". suddenly, the scroll disintegrated to ash in his hands.
Ray was temporarily confused when he realised what the scroll must have been. “So that scroll was a page from a grimoire? Maybe that chest wasn’t so useless.”. Eager to test out his new spell, he decided to find some goblins, because the world would be better off without those creepy little creatures.

It didn't take Ray long to find his targets, another horde of 3 goblins, “Do they always travel in trios? That didn't happen in the game.”. Ray was starting to realise this world, although highly similar to the game world still had its little differences, a huge example was the existence of unique monsters in this world. “Never mind that, lets test the difference between fire ball and fire bolt, after all in the game I was a superior human, class warrior, so I’m not as knowledgeable on magic within the world of Evoden.”.
Ray lurked around the corner, stretched out is arm, palm open, “Fire ball.”, an orange flame appeared in his hand and swirled into a ball, it then flew out towards the goblin and struck it in the chest, once the ball of flame hit the goblin square in the chest, the goblin squealed in pain as he toppled over, however it did not die. As the other goblins struggled to put out the fire on the other goblin who was writhing on the floor, he pointed his finger like a gun at the one on the left, he did this instinctively, which shocked him, “Fire bolt.”, this feeling was completely different to fire ball, his fingertip tingled when an arrow of orange and yellow fire with the speed of a bolt of lightning, shot out of his finger, the arrow like beam struck the goblin in the forehead, the goblin stopped moving and collapsed to the ground. “Woah.”.
The remaining goblin looked up and saw Ray, fear in its revolting face, he tried to run, however there was a WHOOSH of rushing flames and he also fell to the ground, unable to move. Ray looked at his fingertip in shock, it was as if he had a pistol in his fingers. Ray walked up to the 3 goblins the message “you have leveled up to level 9”, ringing in his head, Ray walked up to the goblin he had shot with fire ball and looked at it, it was lying there still, the flames had dispersed now and a massive burn covered the whole of his chest and belly. “So, Fire ball had a burn affect, whereas fire bolt was a flame in the shape of an arrow that moved as fast as lightning. Good to know.” Ray concluded as he plunged the blade into the goblins heart who screamed out before becoming silent, Rays intuitions were right, he was faking death “Sly bastard.”.
Ray examined the other 2 goblins who had burnt black flesh situated around a hole, where the impact had happened, “So, Fire bolt had enough power to kill a goblin if it hits its vitals.”.
Ray had no recollection of time within the dungeon, he could have been here for an hour or several hours at this point, however he didn't feel tired at all, it was probably due to him being a skeleton with no muscles or lungs to tire out, but he felt like he could go for ever. On a magical high, Ray spent the next few hours spamming Fire bolts at all goblins and skeletons he came across, he felt invincible, he had probably killed around 50 monsters by now, when... he collapsed, a notice sounding in his head “you have reached your mana limit and are now in a mana deficit, you will be unable to move for 30 minutes.”, and then everything went dark. When Ray slowly came to, he realised he was being carried by 2 skeletons, his sword in the hands of another, finally able to move, Ray kicked out with his leg, knocking the skeleton holding his legs off balance, falling to the ground, he then spun around and smashed the skeleton, who had his upper half in his arms, head in, causing it to shatter and collapse. Ray got to his feet and jumped, smashing in the head of the skeleton he had knocked down, he looked at the skeleton holding his sword and they squared off, the skeleton dropped the sword and charged at Ray fist raised, as the skeleton swung at Ray he dodged and crashed his fist HARD into the skeletons face, his fist going straight through it. Ray picked up his sword, “And with that, I have finally reached level 15. I've decided, when I reach level 20, I will venture further down into the dungeon.”.
