Chapter 9 : Saving people

Chapter 9 : Saving people

Green's eyes flashed in determination, he adorned the dark leather armor on his body and wielded his weapon.

Gripping the hilt of his short-sword, its blade flashed under the sunlight and Green's anxious heart calmed down a bit.

[ With his ability, the zombies should not be so hard to fight, right? ]

Green pushed open the heavy door, stepping into the eerie silence of the apocalypse outside.

This was actually his first time going outside the house, since the end times had come.

The world had changed completely.

The once clean, beautiful corridors of the apartment were now filled with the terrible stench of zombies and seemed to be permanently cloaked in a shadow of death.

It's walls and floors were covered with bloody trails and various nasty liquids.

Green felt the air was stale, he took a deep breath and coughed violently as a result.

He felt like he had just inhaled all the disgusting stenches drifting about in the corridors.

He wasted no time, striding towards the staircase with a few large steps.

The ferocity of the bald zombie was unmatched among the undead. It lunged at the middle aged man with a relentless determination.

Now that he observed from up close, Green felt that the bald zombie had changed completely.

The zombie's skin had turned a sickening shade of gray, and its eyes had changed from pitch black to a murky white.

The undead had long, dark nails growing from its fingers that looked deadly.

The lifeless white eyes held an otherworldly terror that could send a shiver down any man's spine.

Undeterred, Green approached the bald zombie, his sword raised for a deadly strike.

When it came within his striking range, he chopped at it's head.

[ A Zombie's weakness is in the head right? ]

At least, that's what the movies promised.

The blade descended with a swift arc, cleaving through the zombie's head like a watermelon.

The bald zombie crumpled to the ground, although it was already dead; now it was really, really dead.

Green turned to another undead, a short female zombie.

His sword seemed to have a guiding system as he effortlessly decapitated the zombie with a single fluid motion.

Another zombie from the upper floor stumbled towards him with sluggish steps. He kicked it down, and his sword aimed straight for its forehead.

" arghhhh! "

Bringing his sword out from its head, he kicked a zombie rushing up the stairs, sending it crashing down together with the other zombies that were coming up.

He ignored the dark blood dripping from the sword and took a moment to observe the situation.

As this was his first time killing any human-like creature, even if it was the unholy zombies, he was a bit sluggish.

But the numerous battles he had fought inside the dungeon were not for nothing.

He was already familiar with blood, gore and killing.

As he decapitated the zombies, the gushing blood didn't even manage to get him to raise an eyebrow.

[ Not too bad. ]

Green slightly adjusted the strength of zombies in his mind.

"Leave now!" he turned his head and shouted at the three astonished survivors.

Although the zombies were weaker than he had expected, they held an advantage in numbers. He didn't want to be crowded by them and fall to the zombie horde.

Green turned his head and struck down a zombie rushing forward, then kicked away another that had pounced.

Green couldn't help but notice that the zombies were different.

Some zombies were more nimble than others. Green noticed their eyes glaring white, just like the bald zombie he hacked down previously.

The sluggish zombies had black eyes and stumbled forward while groaning.

We're the zombies evolving?

The white-eyed zombies were like an upgrade from the black-eyed undead. They were faster and had black claws on their hands.

It didn't matter though.

As a level four warrior, his body had been strengthened with each level up and he could handle the white eyed zombies with ease.

Looking at the agile undead, Green felt that they were surprisingly slow in his eyes, reminiscent of the easily bullied spider monsters from the dungeon

[ But the zombies are not spiders. ]

Green reminded himself to be cautious and not to fall into such a simple trap.

It is good to be confident, but arrogance could only lead to an early grave in the apocalypse.

A single scratch from a zombie meant game over! This was something he wanted to engrave deep in his bones.

Green kicked down another zombie, and while it was still struggling to stand, he cleaved its head from above.

The blood that sprayed out was like a mini-fountain.

Green lightly stepped back to avoid the mess.

He did not know if the disease could be transmitted by touching the zombie blood, but he didn't want to directly experiment with his body at the moment.

Maybe the disease could be transmitted by breathing the same air as the zombies?

But if this is true, then it's truly a hell-level mode apocalypse.

He wouldn't even know how he died.

Green wanted to retreat, scared by his own thoughts and theories.

But he had to send the Buddha all the way to the west, he couldn't give up now.

Although the previous fighting took a while to explain, it only lasted a few seconds, happening in an instant. It was intense, and you couldn't blink for a single moment or else you would miss the whole thing.

In such a death battle, if the time taken was too long, either the participants were not determined or felt scared.

The undead were not scared, nor did they lack determination to destroy him and so the fighting ended in an instant.

During that time, the middle-aged man helped Zhang Yuling to her feet; followed by the teenager carrying the supplies they retreated to a house at the end of the corridor.

Their house was at the very end of the hallway while his was on the other Side.

The stairs were in the middle, next to the elevator and separated the building in two.

Green breathed a sigh of relief when he saw them reach their home.

[ It seems like my job is done here. ]

He turned to look towards the stairs, and his eyes froze in an instant.

A large number of zombies were rushing from all sides. He couldn't retreat to his house because it was blocked by the zombie horde.

Green struck down an incoming zombie with white eyes and looked at the ferocious zombies rushing forward like a flood.

His legs felt shaky, his hands trembled in fear, and he almost dropped his sword.

[ Nope! ]

His feet were activated in an instant and he escaped towards the three budhas he had just sent to the west.

"Wait!" Green shouted as he retreated from the zombie horde.

Thankfully, there was no drama of repaying good with evil and such other nonsense he had seen on the internet.

The middle-aged man was prepared.

After Green jumped into the house, he shut the door close before the zombies could reach.

There was loud banging on the other side, the groans of the zombies echoed throughout and it was deafening.

Green pressed his whole body against the door, but there was nothing to worry about.

The doors of the building were tough, sturdy, and could hold the advancement of the undead.

So, unless the zombies had an axe or chainsaw, they would be safe behind such a sturdy door.

Green took a deep breath and slumped down at the foot of the door.

[ That was close! ]

Truthfully, Green felt that the action of heroism was too risky.

At least, he had done the job well enough and come out alive.

He turned to look at the three behind him, who had opened mouths and bewildered looks.

They were huffing and puffing, fear still plastered on Zhang Yuling's face.

Green wanted to open his mouth and say something but did not know what to say.

His eloquence wouldn't be tested on this day.

The loud banging on the door stopped abruptly , and the groans seemed to drift away from the door.

Green's eyes flashed in confusion. Looking at the other three in the room, they were also bewildered.

Did the zombies feel that it was no longer worth it for such a small minimum wage?

"Roooooaaaar!!" A loud and angry roar from outside suddenly broke the silence.

Green's heart shook, and the three covered their ears with panicked looks on their faces.

The middle-aged man was the first to recover, he ran to the window and looked down.

Green also snapped out of it and stepped to the window to take a look.

Looking down at the community garden below, he gasped in shock.

"What the hell!"
