Chapter 23 : Dreamscape Revelations; The Labyrinth's Secrets

In what could only be described as an abyss, a void-like darkness that seemingly stretched endlessly, Green suddenly and inexplicably found himself drifting.

He was unsure of how long he had been adrift. When he attempted to move his limbs, he found that he didn't have arms, legs, or any other body part. His thoughts alone wandered freely in the encompassing darkness.

The only companion he had in this strange place was a familiar golden sigil, shaped like a seed. The golden seed hovered over him, casting a blinding luminosity that pushed back against the oppressive abyss.

"What is this?" Green wondered, his confusion growing.

He had been lingering in this place for a while, his thoughts floating around in the infinite darkness, and he was completely clueless about his whereabouts.

In the void space, a whispering voice suddenly echoed, evoking terror and horror in Green.

The sudden sound almost made him jump in fear, but then he remembered, "I can't jump here, even if I wanted to."

As he calmed down and thought about it again, the realization struck; he recognized the voice.

Green realized in an instant that the sound echoing in the abyss was the one that saved him from the one-eyed monster. The same voice that brought him victory against the troll! The whisper of salvation that had literally saved him from an early grave.

"Hello," it resonated once again, and Green cautiously 'looked' around, searching for the speaker, but there was nobody in sight. The darkness unfolded like a canvas painted with uncertainty, stretching endlessly.

"Who are you? Where am I?" Green questioned, attempting to find the mysterious figure in the abyss.

"I am the warrior!" The voice replied, and Green waited for subsequent words, but they never came.

"The warrior, is that it?" Green asked in confusion, but there was no reply. The enigmatic silence lingered in the boundless darkness.

This fellow, is he trying to be mysterious, playing gods and devils in front of me? Green was unsure.

"Why did you help me?" Green questioned the mysterious entity hiding in the abyss once again.

"As the previous bearer of your class, I also faced similar challenging situations numerous time. My assistance was to a fellow challenger, travelling on the same path, nothing more," came the unexpected reply.

"The previous bearer?" Green's mind turned like a turbine as he contemplated the mysterious entity's reply.

"Where are we right now?" Green asked, looking at the endless darkness spread all around.

This couldn't be purgatory or something, right? Was he dead? Why didn't he know?

"You are not dead." A whisper echoed, replying to his private thoughts, and Green was scared half to death.

He was very sure he didn't say this out loud; how did the mysterious entity know what he was thinking?

Wait! How was he even speaking right now? He didn't have a mouth or any body parts.

Green's mind set in motion trying to come up with an answer for the weird phenomena, but it came to a sudden halt once the reply echoed out.

"I am, no, we are in your mind; this is your mind-space." The voice continued, explaining further.

"It's also called the 'Dreamscape', and here each of your thoughts is like a peal of thunder; even if I wished to avoid it, I cannot."

Green was amazed by the revelation; he looked around; there was nothing here but darkness. Was his imagination too poor?

But if this was his dreamscape, he should be able to conjure up anything that comes to mind, right?

"Indeed, within this realm, the power of creation and destruction rests at the whim of your mind. The very fabric of the darkness becomes a canvas, allowing you to sculpt worlds, summon fantastical beings, and reshape the void space with a mere thought."

Green was astonished. He suddenly had a thought and tried imagining the place in his mind.

He concentrated on summoning a place deeply rooted in his memories; the small courtyard house from his childhood years.

The darkness that spread out endlessly suddenly shimmered; a light emerged, spreading out, engulfing the dark, and a faint outline of a construct began to emerge on the white canvas.

This nostalgic courtyard house had three rooms, its ground adorned with a carpet of grass and scattered flowers. A quaint stone table stood to the side, and there was also a small tree in the middle of the courtyard.

Green stood beside the small tree, and looking at the small courtyard house, he sighed deeply.

At a single glance, the house felt warm and comfortable; it was in this place that he and his father lived until he was twelve years old.

Green still remembered how his father used to take him to the noodle shop at the neighborhood corner every so often.

Unfortunately, he and his father had to move around a lot afterward due to his dad's job, and the small courtyard house was left behind. He didn't know what had happened to it after they left, maybe somebody else moved in?

Green went forward and checked all the rooms, but unfortunately, he couldn't recall most of the room's contents. Therefore, a large portion of the house was grayed out, adding an unnatural look to the whole place.

Feeling a sense of sadness, Green turned his head, and suddenly came face to face with a weird gray figure.

The creepy entity, fully enveloped in gray, stood beside the stone table and appeared to be looking around at the courtyard house.

When it finally turned to face him, Green broke out into a cold sweat. "What is this thing?" He was deeply horrified, as he was very sure he didn't conjure up such a being.

"It is I, the warrior." The gray shadow didn't have a mouth from which it could speak, but Green heard the familiar voice of the mysterious entity echo out.

"Oh, warrior? Why do you take on this form?" Green calmed down and asked with some confusion. This weird guy said he was the previous bearer of the class; therefore, he should be human or something, right?

"As you have never seen me with your own eyes, I look like this for now," the gray shadow replied.

"However, you can still imagine my figure, and I will take the form you envision."

Green looked at the gray shadow, and suddenly, he thought about a certain game character his dormmates used to love.

Within a second, the gray shadow's figure twisted into the form of a tall man. The man had a robust and imposing physique, his towering physique full of muscles, and his skin pale, almost ash-like.

His whole body was crisscrossed with numerous scars of battle, and the most noticeable scar went across his right eye.

Looking at the bald head, rugged attire, and unique red tattoos, Green was shocked by the vividness of his imagination.

Staring into the fierce eyes, he felt like he had really conjured up the god of W#r here.

The warrior also admired his hands and body, exclaiming, "Indeed, this is a god of w#r."

Green coughed in embarrassment, motioning for the warrior to sit on the stone chair, and he also came over and sat down.

Before Green could voice his thoughts, the bald man surveyed their surroundings with a subtle nod. "Remarkable, your ability to shape the void is quite good."

Green, a mixture of perplexity and curiosity, paused to gather his thoughts before delving into the questions weighing on her mind. "Who are you exactly?"

The muscular man turned towards him, a confused look on his face. "I am a warrior of the labyrinth, the bearer of the class you now wield. As for my name... I don't remember," he shook his head and replied.

Caught off guard, Green wondered if the person in front of him had amnesia. But if he didn't have a name, he could just call him Zhanshen. Looking at the fierce bald man, Green nodded. "This is a good name."

"Alright, but you said that you are the previous bearer of the class, what do you mean by this?"

Green had an expectant look as he eyed Zhanshen, and he was not disappointed by the Q And A session that followed.

When Zhanshen spoke, his words unfolded like a grand tapestry, revealing answers that spanned across numerous questions, exposing the very core of the most crucial secrets.

Green was wide-eyed as each new piece of information hit him: the system's origin, his summoned role, and the true purpose of the dungeon filled with monsters were all revealed for the first time.

Zhanshen clarified that the so-called dungeon was, in fact, a labyrinth. He went on to reveal that there were numerous similar creations, and the one they were dealing with was named "The Labyrinth of Wyr'mara."

Zhanshen elucidated that the dungeon functioned with layered intricacies, and "The Labyrinth of Wyr'mara," in particular, comprised three layers. On the initial layer where Green found himself, the highest-ranking monster was the level 25 Orc.

Apart from the Orc, there was also a boss monster Green had to defeat to advance to the second layer. However, when asked about the specifics of the boss monster, Zhanshen appeared perplexed, unable to recall that particular detail.

The second and third layers also remained a mystery in Zhanshen's mind, completely unknown to him. Despite this, he still confidently asserted that those who could successfully conquer the labyrinth of trials would be rewarded with unimaginable power.

The dungeon, or labyrinth, indeed served as a realm of trials—a colossal creation forged by supreme transcendent forces. It existed as a space dedicated to cultivating worthy individuals, preparing them to inherit great power.

The three classes—warrior, archer, and mage—were special marks bestowed upon the challengers by the labyrinth. These classes served as something akin to an ID required to enter the dungeons.

However, they were not infinite in number. When a challenger met their demise in the dungeon, their mark would be inherited by newcomers. This cycle has been ongoing for a long-long time.

Zhanshen also shared details about his world; in his world, concepts like levels, monsters, and systems were commonplace, existing from ancient times. Green, taken aback, was shocked at the revelation. There were other worlds?

Zhanshen struggled to recollect actual details about his world, and the circumstances leading to his 'fall' in the labyrinth remained hazy. He could only recall appearing in the darkness of Green's mind without a clear memory of how he had perished in the labyrinth.

Wandering through the void for an extended period, Zhanshen felt utterly lost. Eventually, he began hearing echoes of Green's thoughts as he drifted through the darkness.

After a while, Zhanshen gained the ability to perceive the outside world through Green's eyes. In a dire encounter with a troll, he managed to whisper a warning just before Green was brutally bludgeoned to death.

Recalling the dreadful encounter with the one-eyed troll, Green expressed gratitude once more. He genuinely appreciated the timely assistance from Zhanshen, recognizing that it had indeed saved his life.

As Green attempted to continue questioning, the dreamscape suddenly shook, the ordinary courtyard house shattered into a thousand pieces, and darkness enveloped the scene.

Helplessly, Green watched as Zhanshen's body disintegrated right before his eyes.

Upon opening his eyes, Green found himself back in his apartment, lying on top of his bed.
