Chapter 20 : Flickering light in the dark

"Behind you."

The sudden voice that appeared sent a shiver down his spine.

Startled, Green reflexively leaped forward and rolled to the side.

"Bang! "

A loud and brutal thud echoed in the tiny cave, as a heavy object crashed onto the hard ground; sending another shivers down his spine.

Green didn't dare look back, and continued rolling to the left, after jumping up, he turned to face the unknown threat.

Emerging from the shadows, a huge, looming figure appeared, and Green almost jumped out of his skin in fear.

It's lone, piercing yellow eye flickered ominously, reflecting a primal savagery and insatiable bloodlust.

It appeared like a candle in the darkness, emanating a ghastly and terrifying aura.

The towering figure exceeded two meters, its skin resembling weathered stone, rough and imposing.

Muscles and fat adorned its body, adding to its formidable and daunting presence.

The savage beast, now covered in grotesque wounds, had blood oozing from numerous claw marks and vicious bites on its arms, feet, and stomach.

It's frightening figure would surely inspire terror in anyone who crossed its path.

"Damn it is a troll," Green's eyes sank.

The troll, a level 10 creature, was a monster Green never dared to think about fighting.

The troll before him had numerous wounds, the largest across its face, leaving the monster blind in one eye.

The one-eyed troll growled angrily, lunging forward with its heavy club. Green, nervously waiting, rolled to the side to dodge the gigantic swing.

The thunderous sound of the club striking the ground shook Green to his bones.

If one of those savage swings lands on him, it's an instant game over.

Realizing the danger, Green's mind tensed. He glanced at the cave exit, wanting to run, but the small space made it impossible to squeeze past the troll.

Green gripped the handle of the short sword in his hands tightly.

[If escape is impossible, I can only fight back!]

The one-eyed troll was a brute, it swung its club wildly with a thunderous roar.

Green rolled away and his sword flashed, grazing past the troll's injured face.

The attack opened up the large clawed wound on the troll's face, tearing the black scab and causing fresh blood to flow once more.

The furious troll roared in anger, and Green's heart tensed as he dodged another wild swing of the wooden club.

He narrowly avoided the wild swing and continued attacking when it left defensive gaps.

Green nervously evaded as one large swing followed another in rapid succession, and the tiny cave filled with the sound of intense and deadly combat.

Exhausted and sensing the imminent danger to its life, the troll went completely berserk, hurling the club at Green's body.

Green's heart jumped as the projectile wooshed towards him, he couldn't dodge in time and was caught squarely on his guarding arms.

The troll's immense strength made the club's impact feel like he was hit by a car.

Green felt like his forearms were about to fall off, and the immense amount of agony he felt couldn't be described with words.

Although the pain was tremendous, Green couldn't dwell on it as the troll didn't remain stationary. After throwing the club, it lunged at him with a beastly roar.

Time slowed, the air felt stale. A whisper in Green's mind urged, "To the left," and he followed its command.

With all the strength in his legs, Green launched himself to the left, narrowly avoiding the troll's desperate attack.

Finding thin air, the troll fell to the ground with a thud, shaking the earth.

Rolling forward a few times, Green hurried to stand on his feet and grabbed the short sword from the ground.

The one-eyed troll was relentless, it jumped up, reclaimed its weapon and charged at him once again.

Barely dodging the troll's swing, Green sensed he was cornered, his back was against the wall.

Reluctantly deflecting a blow to his body, he felt enormous pressure on the hand holding the sword, fearing it might snap off at any moment.

Green again evaded the troll's heavy blow but couldn't escape the forceful kick to his stomach.

A sickening feeling surged in Green's stomach as he was sent flying back, his body slapping against the cavern walls.

HP : 3/95

Tasting blood in his mouth, feeling the pain coursing through his body, Green believed it was the end.

He felt like he was about to kick the can.

"Is this it? I'm about to die now."

The one-eyed troll was excited, growling loudly as it went forward and aimed for Green's head on the ground.

"Boom!"

The cave ground shook as the large club met it, the sound sickening, and terrifying.

The brutal echoes brought an end to the battle noise.

Excitedly, the troll looked down with its lone yellow eye, but Green was no longer on the ground.

Confusion filled the troll's expression as it searched for his body.

Suddenly, from behind, a sword struck forward, aimed at the troll's vital area; the neck.

The troll, with great instincts, felt the attack and twisted its body to dodge. Nonetheless, the sword poked a large hole in its neck, and blood flowed down like a river.

"To your right, avoid the blow," the voice whispered in his mind.

The troll, furious, swung its club violently. Green, attentive to the voice in his mind, dodged in time.

The troll, already wounded and on death's door with significant blood loss, swung wildly in agitation.

Guided by the voice in his mind Green's body was like a leaf in a current as he effortlessly flowed around the attacks.

He didn't only dodge but was also stabbed at the troll with the sword. The blade flashed as he performed a number of strikes on the troll's body as he moved around.

Injured and desperate, the one-eyed troll swung its wooden club but it's strength had dwindled as the numerous battles exhausted it.

Green easily dodged a weak blow to the body and, in one motion, cut the monster's head.

The troll's muddy yellow eye lost its brilliance, and it crumbled to the ground lifellessly.

The cave fell into a heavy silence.

Green stood motionless, his body battered, and his hands shook slightly in shock.

[I survived.]

His sword fell to the ground as he breathed heavily.
