Chapter 27 : Goblins

Chapter 27 : Goblins

Green leisurely returned home after testing out his strength. And looking down at the chaos below, his smile turned into a frown.

The quaint community garden echoed with the desperate clashes of zombies and monsters, creating a hellish and horrifying scene.

The rain had fallen for three days now, and to prove his earlier predictions, the zombies were evolving after each onset of rain.

Like leeks that shot up after the rainy season, the undead continued growing stronger and the new, yellow-eyed zombies had a level three strength.

Although there were not many of such yellow-eyed zombies in the horde, the monsters which originally had fewer numbers were temporarily overwhelmed.

Green was unsure for how long the evolution of the zombies could continue, but the situation was becoming more grave with each passing day.

The weak humans huddled up in their homes were already too weak to handle such powerful undead, not to mention the stronger zombie evolutions that could come afterwards.

[Fucking hell!]

In addition to that, the dark crow that suddenly attacked the group also gave him an ominous feeling.

This was Green's first time seeing a flying monster on earth.

Thinking of the monsters that appeared on the second week of the apocalypse, Green still recalled the shock and fear he felt at that time.

Nevertheless, although the monsters roaming around the community ground were terrifying, he was still assured because of the building gate that had firmly blocked their entry.

At least that was the case until this day, but now, the dark crow's appearance had him reevaluate everything.

A metal gate couldn't keep such flying creatures out of the house, that was for sure.

Green didn't know how many more flying monsters there were nearby but he wasn't optimistic.

Maybe the dark crows are like the silver wolves, and liked travelling in a group?

The mere thought of numerous crows shrouding the sky, and the sun, sent a shiver down his spine.

"At least, I was strong enough to kill the crow. "This was the only consolation he could give himself.

Encountering the dark crow, a level 7 creature also had an upside. The fact that he defeated it with his own hands brought him great satisfaction and the subconscious fear of higher-ranked monsters in his mind began to subside.

Before this, he had always avoided higher-ranked monsters like a plague and didn't dare to breathe too heavily when they passed by. But now, his confidence had grown a little.

Green scratched his hair; he could feel how dirty it had become. After all, he didn't wash it for so long. After the water supply stopped, he had to save the precious water.

Green sat on the sofa and stared blankly at the ceiling. He had numerous thoughts running though his mind at the moment.

When the sun set, the noise of battle subsided, and an eerie silence descended. Checking his watch, Green looked at the status of his equipment.

Several of the items had were damaged, but he was not worried because they still had more than enough durability left. It would take a long time before he had to care.

But what if the durability reaches 0? Would it break? Do I have to buy another one?

Green was unsure; he didn't know how to repair the equipment and for now, he could only watch as the durability lowered.

"Status."

"Okay, let's go!"

Looking at the experience requirement for level 7, he was optimistic about this summoning. Closing his eyes on the bed, he took a deep breath.

_____

Labryinth of Wyr'mara.

The chilly, dark dungeon was as creepy as usual; the blue moss covering the walls providing the only light in the darkness.

Green did a few stretches before walking down the tunnels.

To be honest, to this day, he still didn't know how the labyrinth tunnel system worked.

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

There were a seemingly infinite number of tunnel branches, twisting paths, and endless corridors.

Each time Green was summoned, he did not know where he was exactly; the dark walls covered by blue moss all seemed to be identical, and he could only choose a direction at random and go that way.

Just like he was doing now.

After 10 minutes of tireless searching, he confirmed his guess: the skeletons had disappeared.

"Farewell, skeleton friends. Because of you I could reach level 5, thank you."

Green sighed and sent a silent farewell to the unholy white bone creatures.

Just like the spiders and rats before them, he would no longer encounter the creepy bone heads.

But, he wasn't disheartened. There were more monsters that he could befriend after the skeletons left the area.

Green, after having faced the dark crow, was confident in his ability to hunt the much weaker, level 5 goblins.

"Let's do this! Maybe I can complete the goblin task in a single night."

His optimism surged as he walked down the tunnel.

Suddenly, he halted.

He could hear a sound; it came from the path ahead. Green walked to the side and hid behind a rocky formation close to the wall.

Peering out, he saw three creatures walk in the darkness.

Their ugly faces were contorted savagely like someone owned them money, and their mouths a hole filled with sharp teeth.

Their eyes were large and protruded out from their sockets like light bulbs. Possessing ears like that of a bat, the monsters had bald irregular-shaped large heads.

They had green skin like a frog, and it was a particularly revolting shade of green as well. A color that would make you want to throw up.

Only standing at four feet, these were the level 5 goblins monsters. On their skinny, middle school-like bodies, they only wore a single piece of clothing; a disgusting, dirty loincloth.

Green had always placed the goblins as the undisputed, number one ugliest monster he had ever seen. And the runner-ups were giant rats, so one could get an idea of how ugly they actually looked.

As humanoid monsters, the goblins each held different weapons.

One was holding a short spear, another a flimsy-looking sword, and the last a wooden club. The goblins looked around cautiously as they walked.

Green's eyes lit up.

"Good luck, free delivery today."

He was really excited looking at the ugly monsters.

He didn't jump out immediately. After the last goblin passed by the unassuming rocky formation, Green stepped onto the stone platform and brought down his sword onto the neck of one of the goblins.

Thud!

A sickening sound echoed out as the sword met the goblin's neck. Even though the goblin's muscle and skin were surprisingly tough, it couldn't resist the sharp blade.

The goblin did not know how it died; its large yellow eyes froze as its head rolled forward.

Green fell to the ground, leaping up, he threw the round shield at the closest goblin, catching it on the face.

'Kwikwikwi!!'

The goblin cried in pain, clutching its face as it stumbled backward.

Green didn't let go of such an opportunity, closing in, he stabbed towards its lower region.

Shocked, the goblin attempted to block with its club, but the sword suddenly shifted midway.

Instead of stabbing for its loin cloth, it flew upwards, slashing for its face; the blade was too fast, and the goblin couldn't react in time.

'Kwikwikwi!!'

Although the sword didn't bring down the goblin, he was able to cut a deep scar into its ugly face. This goblin was temporarily incapacitated and could no longer fight.

Taking a step back, he fished up the round-shield from the ground and faced the short goblin; his height towering over it.

The last, spear-wielding goblin was shocked by the sudden appearance of an enemy, and looking at the injured comrades on the ground, it growled angrily before ferociously lunging forward.

Green, alert, carefully deflected the spear attack and smashed the goblins face with the round shield. Taking advantage of its slight daze, his sword shot forward towards its neck.

The goblin growled and dodged the deadly blow.

With another angry growl, it lunged forward again. Green, shocked by the creature's ferocity, retreated and suddenly noticed the injured goblin nearby.

Rushing toward it, he grabbed it by the neck and threw it onto the path of the incoming spear strike.

"Kwikwikwi!"

The spear's momentum drove straight through its trachea. The spear-wielding goblin was shocked as blood gushed from its comrade's neck.

Without giving it a second, Green kicked the impaled goblin, and both goblins fell to the ground.

With a mighty leap, Green mounted the angry goblin, he pressed it down with his shield and swiftly stabbed toward its neck.

The creature struggled ferociously in order to escape the pin, but it couldn't save itself.

In the end, the madness in its yellow eyes slowly faded away and its lifeless body lay on the ground.

Green took a deep breath, standing up, he looked at the miserable states of the goblins on the ground.

His sneak attack worked perfectly. But... one of the goblin on the ground was killed by the spear-wielding comrade.

"Does it still count as my kill?"

After opening the battle log to check, he breathed a sigh of relief. He obtained the experience points for all the goblins.

Green took another glance at the goblin corpses; suddenly, his eyes lit up, and he went forward to retrieve the short spear.

"This thing can come in handy; I can use it like a javelin or something."

It was always good to have more options in his arsenal.

Green wedged the spear in the shield handle and walked away to find other goblins.

After another 20 minutes, he found a large goblin room. Peering into the cave, he saw seven goblins, wielding murderous weapons and didn't dare rush in recklessly.

Previously, he held the element of surprise and could overwhelm the three goblins. But now, Green had to use the old method. Fishing a stone from his pockets, he threw it towards the nearest goblin.

"I don't know if the goblins will fall for this trick. They should possess some sort of intelligence, right?"

Fortunately, the goblin creatures before him were as naive as all the previous monsters, and he successfully drew out the stupid goblin on the first try.

The goblin that was lured out had a large red mole on the center of its forehead and wielded a club. Green didn't give it any time to think, and he shot the javelin at it before rushing forward.

Red mole was alert and narrowly evaded the incoming projectile. However, it couldn't dodge the sword cleaving for its body.

'Kwikwikwi!!'

The red mole goblin screeched, and holding its wounded arm, it desperately threw the club at him.

Green was startled by the sudden attack but he effortlessly shot down the wooden club with his shield before stepping forward. With a single swing of his sword, the noisy goblin was silenced forever.

Unfortunately, the sound of its cries had alerted the rest of the goblins, and they rushed out from the cave mouth.

Green hurridly assumed a defensive stance, his face frowning as he eyed the incoming green skins.

Never one to shy away from a confrontation at his doorstep, he didn't wait for them to surround him. Green took a deep breath and lunged at the first goblin wielding a flimsy sword. Enduring a blow to his body, he swung his sword towards its face.

'Clank!'

The goblin hurried to parry the attack, stumbling back as it did so.

Green took a step closer and smacked it across the cheek with his shield before he proceeded to plunge his sword into its neck.

The goblin couldn't react in time and its head was seveared from the body.

Green didn't allow it to fall to the ground.

Kicking it on the chest, he sent it crashing onto the other goblins. Taking a few steps back, he assessed the situation.

"Only five to go, I can do this!"

A deadly battle commenced between human and monsters. The air was heavy with blood and desperation.

The screams of agony, shrieks of anger, and the smell of sweat enveloping the tunnel space.

'Haa... haa... haa...' Taking a moment to catch his breath, Green summoned the status panel.

Although he had emerged victorious, the damage he took was substantial. Counting his encounter with the dark crow, his health had fallen by 24 points.

But the rewards were also good; in an instant, he had gained another 175 experience points."

High risks came with high reward, and the ugly goblins were quite the generous species.

Green remembered his unique skill [Rejuvenation]; should he use it now? He wondered how many points he could regain with the corpses of seven level goblins.

Before he could perform the ritual, he suddenly heard a sound coming from afar.

Oh, no!

Silver wolves!

The howl of wolves was mixed with the angry roar of trolls, and the sound kept getting closer. Green reluctantly looked at the body of the goblins before he rushed to hide.
