Five items floated in the equipment store; with a small pictorial

representation on the side.

Among the six items, only one increased attack while the rest were all defensive equipment.

Green calculated in his mind and realised he would require a grand sum of 720 gold coins to be fully decked out in all the items.

Unfortunately, he was a pauper with only 128 gold in his pocket.

Plus, looking at the level next to the items there should exist even higher level equipment.

[ Damn! ]

This was a gold swallowing beast!

He really wanted to buy all the defensive equipment, hold a dragon slaying sword in one hand and a diamond shield in the other.

At that time who would be his equal in the dungeon!

But this was obviously unrealistic.

For now, Green was determined to increase his defense and the sword item was eliminated from the get-go .

The short sword that came with the warrior class did not increase his attack but it would have to do for now.

The remaining options were all defensive equipment, and had the same defensive bonus therefore he picked at random.

He clicked on one of the items and the others were immediately greyed out.

A piece of armor materialized in his hands in an instant.

This stunned him momentarily.

Green's eyes were wide open the whole time; he didn't even blink once

But he still couldn't realise how the armor appeared in his hands.

Was it magic?

Green shrugged and lazily swiped on the translucent screen.

Another panel popped up in front of him.

[ Level 1 Armor

Even as a novice to ancient armor; Green could see that the equipment was well crafted.

The upper body armor was made of tough, dark leather that appeared to fit perfectly on his body.

It had cool designs on the chest and very strong shoulder guards.

The leather straps kept him snug and he could move freely without any hindrance.

It did not weigh much and was like an extra piece of clothing on his body.

Such strong, good looking and practical armor should be great for battles.

Green opened his status panel and noted the increased defense.

Green was anxious to try the new piece of armor.

He located a den of giant rats after some searching.

The four Level 2 giant rats inside the cave were startled when he barged in unannounced and screeched loudly.

They did waste a single second before they pounced.

Green remained unfazed as he greeted them with his sword.

After reaching level 4, his body had been strengthened even further, he put this new power to use and ferociously stabbed the nearest giant rat.

The sword flashed, drawing dark blood from the wounded foe.

Green ignored its painful screeching and dodged to the side.

He didn't want to get blood on his brand new armor.

While he was momentarily distracted by the fountain of blood, a tail whip smashed down on his chest and a muffled sound was heard.

' Thwakk! '

The tails sweeping impact on the leather armor was great, Green felt his chest tightening but a certain force seemed to resist the blow.

It wasn't so bad.

Although he couldn't give an immediate response, Green could see the leather armor had began to show its worth.

Green flashed a grin; swinging wildly he cut off a portion of the giant rats face.

His weapon was like a hot knife on butter.

Green braced himself and charged into yet another fierce battle.

Green stood in the dark cave; his eyes shinning at the cascading Battle log.

The battle ultimately proved the armors capabilities.

HP : 87/95

Without any armor on; the giant rat dealt 3 damage to his HP.

No matter how skillfully he ducked, rolled, weaved, slipped and sidestepped, the harm he received when hit was always 3.

Unexpectedly, this single piece of equipment managed to bring down the value of the enemies damage to himself by 1 point.

Green was not dismissive of the armors performance.

It's not like he was expecting to buy some godly equipment for just 120 gold anyways.

However, with just this effect he could already paint a vivid picture in his mind.

Wearing a full set of high level equipment and holding a level 20 sharp sword in one hand, he would rush at the hill-like body of a Level 25 Orc.

And, no matter how the Orc attacked he would not receive a single point of damage!

At that time the fat bastard would not dare believe his titanium dog eyes, right?

[ Kekeke...]

Green couldn't help but laugh with giddiness while imagining such wonderful prospects for the future.

Day 31

The last day in the first month of apocalypse was unusual and strange.

A quietness enveloped the otherwise chaotic cacophony of noise that emerged from both beast and man alike.

The sun was glaring bright in the sky and the clouds drifted ever so lazily.

Looking at the parking-lot below, it was even more strange.

The lazy atmosphere seemed to have infected every creature that roamed the community grounds.

The otherwise ferocious creatures; zombies and monsters, looked subdued and moved about sluglishly

Green held a concentrated and nervous look on his face.

The rather peaceful scene in the apocalypse didn't alleviate his weary mind.

It made him even more fearful of the unknown.

The tranquility was like the calm before the storm.

Like the silence before a gunshot!

And whatever bizarre nature the storm took, Green was nervous of having to confront it.

He hastily summoned his short sword and adorned his new leather armor.

Still, he could not muster up any courage.

Tick! Tick! Tick!

The seconds went by unhurried, minutes and then hours passed.

But the expected impending doom did not arrive.

The sun slowly retreated onto the horizon and night took over.

Dark clouds shrouded the sky and not a single star was visible under all firmament covering the earth.

The light of the city long gone, a pitch blackness draped over the world and the chilling silence was nerve wracking.

Green sighed helplessly, took his place on the bed and finally closed his eyes.

_________

The dim light from blue moss illuminated the dark path ahead.

Peering down the dark tunnels, Green lamented the unchanging nature of the dungeon.

From the first night of apocalypse until now, nothing much had changed.

The dark tunnels were still dark, the monsters still terrifying and murderous.

Here, there was only one unchanging rule.

Survival of the fittest!

Higher level monsters dominate and feast on lower rank creatures.

While the losers can only accept their cruel fates.

In the dungeon weakness was the greatest sin!

It was a brutal and uncompromising world.

In this land of prey and predator, Green felt a strange sense of freedom.

Dangerous as they might be, he had learnt to navigate the tunnels after many near death experiences.

Killing monsters, leveling up, becoming stronger; such a simple world!

That was not all!

As he hunt down beasts in the dungeon and became stronger, his chances of surviving in the apocalypse would rise even higher.

Green smiled, tightened his grip on the short sword and began another long night of dungeon crawling.
