Andie tossed her covers aside, then rolled out of bed. For a short while she laid on the ground, finally managing to pull herself upright when the smell of breakfast lured her into the kitchen.
“Still wearing your superhero pajamas, I see.” Andie’s mom, Kayleigh, strolled into the kitchen. She was wearing her good suit today and seemed to be in a good mood. Well, she was in a good mood. A scowl rapidly crossed her face when she heard Andie muttering under her breath. “Excuse me, what did you just say!?”
“I said, if you hate my pajamas so much, why don’t you just throw them out!”
“That’s what I thought you said, but listen here young lady -” Andie’s mom was cut off by Andie’s dad, who was holding a plate of pancakes topped with various berries in one hand and resting the other meaningfully on his wife’s shoulder. “…Tully, honey, I’m kind of in the middle of something…”

“That’s the point, sweetie, you and Andie both know the rule.” Tully placed the plate of pancakes on the table and slid them over to Andie. “No arguing before breakfast. I love you both, but you get really mean when you’re low blood sugar.”
“…Fine. But for the record, Andie, I don’t throw them out because you’re almost a grown ass woman, and you act with responsibility to match. As long as your grades are anything above a failing grade, and you don’t go breaking the law, you’re more than allowed to make a few life decisions I don’t agree with.”
“There, see?” A big grin spread across Tully’s face. “We may fight sometimes, but we all respect each other in this family, okay?”
“You’re right…” Andie spoke in between bites. “I’m sorry, Mom.”
“And I’m sorry for being snippy.” Kay grabbed a box of Pop-Tarts off the counter. “Now be a dear and call your younger siblings down for breakfast, would you?”
“Mph’kay.” Andie crammed a few more bites of food down her throat before shouting towards Chloe and Connor’s room. “Hey! Twins! Get your butts out here before I eat your share of the pancakes!”
