Chapter 19

For a solid ten seconds, silence hung over the mindscape as Dark Andie pried her way out from underneath Dyllan. “Well, now…” She hopped upright and dusted herself off. “Someone needs to watch where they’re aiming.”

Dark Dyllan marched unflinchingly toward Dark Andie and normal Dyllan. “I was watching just fine.” Trailing behind Dark Dyllan and matching his every movement, there was a lumbering shadow - shaped like a stretched out oval with arms and solid red eyes. It lacked any depth to its shape and looked two dimensional from every angle - just like most thought-doodles. It was painted in grayscale watercolor, almost like normal Dyllan’s thought-doodles. Yet it was so different. The diluted black paint was splattered haphazardly all around, leaking and bleeding out of a sharp pencil outline. Almost in defiance of normal Dyllan’s meditative pastel palate and clean, controlled shapes. “Hit exactly what I was aiming for.”

“Oh, for the love of… What is it this time!” Dark Andie scowled. “Do you even have a reason this time? Or have you finally just gone full psycho.”

“Don’t know, don’t care.” Dark Dyllan’s shadow companion tore a chunk out of the concrete beneath it, then hurled it at Dark Andie. “All that matters is that something you did or said pissed me off.”

Dark Andie casually ducked out of the way of her former accomplice’s projectile. “At least use your Vice when you fight. You know, like an actual human being, instead of the glorified chimpanzee that you are.”

“No, I like fighting this way.” Dark Dyllan charged at his victim, too focused to notice normal Andie sneaking away with an unconscious normal Dyllan slung over her shoulder - and her own severed arm held between her teeth. “It’s more satisfying when I can feel the punches hit my enemies.”
