Chapter 234

“Well.” Dyllan looked around a bit, though he wasn’t entirely sure what he was looking for. “I guess it’s time for us to leave, then.”

“I guess it is.” Cedric gave his own, cursory re-examination of the mindscape - just to make sure he hadn’t missed anything. He hadn’t. “Well then, Dyllan, I will see you -” Cedric paused, noticing Dyllan step into a plume of dream smoke and disappear. “- tomorrow.”

It seemed Andie wasn’t the only one eager to call it a night.

Cedric steadied his breathing, and let his hand rest up against the air in front of him. He paused for a moment before giving a gentle shove, causing a rectangular patch of reality to swing open like a door - revealing Andie’s room on the other side. Her window was open. Not really the weather for that sort of thing... had a part of her expected her awakening to happen tonight? Did she leave it open because she knew Dyllan couldn’t reliably phase through physical objects?

No use dwelling on it - at least, not at this particular moment.

Cedric gave one last glance over at Andie - just to make sure she was sleeping peacefully - then vaulted out the window, and made his way up the fire escape towards the roof. To his surprise, Dyllan was awaiting him at the top. He’d thought they’d gone their separate ways for the night.

“Hey, Cedric. Finnegan’s here.” Dyllan gestured toward a man leaning up against the railings, a familiar smile on his face and an even more familiar glint in his eyes. He and his granddaughter really did have a lot in common.

“Well howdy!” Finn’s smile grew into a grin. “Nice to see the two of you doing well! Will Sprout be joining us, or is she out for the night?”

“She’s out for the night.” Cedric looked Finnegan up and down. As usual, it was hard to get a good read on what was going through his head. “Went straight to sleep as soon as she finished her awakening.”

“Good choice. Her mind needs the rest.” Finn noticed the way Cedric was observing him, and gave an almost-but-not-quite wry smile in response. “I’ll make sure to check in on her in the morning.”
