Chapter 170

Chapter 170

Alright. Dyllan was inside Cedric’s Nightmare, and although Cedric would probably criticize Dyllan for being this confident based off “a sample size of one”, Dyllan was sure that Cedric was in here somewhere. Both halves of him. It might take a while to find him, though. Dyllan had no idea how big the inside of a Nightmare was - or if they were even “big” at all. Andie hadn’t mentioned how long it took her to find Dyllan once she’d broken inside his Nightmare, and Dyllan hadn’t thought to ask.

With that, Dyllan took the first real step into the inside of Cedric’s Nightmare… and stumbled over, falling flat on his face. This expedition was off to a great start. Maybe he should have asked Andie to come with him.

No time to dwell. Couldas, wouldas, and shouldas didn’t accomplish anything, and Cedric needed him. Dyllan pushed himself up off the ground, and wiped the sand off his face. His second real step into the inside of Cedric’s Nightmare was unsteady and uncertain, but successful. The beach was sloped, and although its angle wasn’t that steep, climbing loose sand uphill while effectively blind was… difficult. If he fell over again he’d probably just throw dignity out the window and start crawling around. Still, now that he’d mostly found his footing, it was time to start searching for Cedric in earnest.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“He’s over there.”

Caught off guard, Dyllan whipped his head around - looking to his left, his right, above him, and behind him. Finally he found what, or rather, who, he’d been looking for. There, right in front of Dyllan - where he’d been looking when he first heard the voice - was Cedric’s shadow. He seemed to be leaning against something. Maybe a palm tree? Then again, a small island made up entirely of sand with a single palm tree seemed a bit blunt.

“…where’s ‘over there’?”

Cedric’s shadow said nothing, instead silently gesturing over toward Dyllan’s left. Sure enough, there was Cedric’s ego - sitting down and staring wistfully off into what was presumably some kind of ocean.
