Chapter 159

Chapter 159

Andie inhaled deeply and did her best to relax and soak in the night air. She hadn’t been getting good sleep lately, and it had left her feeling a little sluggish - and even more scatterbrained than usual. She was pretty sure both Cedric and her grandpa had noticed something was up, but neither of them had said anything about it. She was starting to get worried that she’d wake up in the middle of dreamwalking. Actually, now that she thought about it, it was weird that had never happened before. Was it even possible to wake up when her dreamwalker form was out and about?

Normally, Andie would immediately start planning a test to answer her new questions… but she had a strange feeling this was the sort of thing she shouldn’t mess around with just because she was curious. Before Andie could get too deep into weighing risk against reward, though, a plume of black and purple dream smoke erupted in the distance - heralded by a horrible, thunderous, deafening silence.

“God -” Andie leapt to her feet and took off toward the edge of the skyscraper whose rooftop she’d been hanging out on. “- FUCKing -” She vaulted onto the railing at the rooftop’s edge and leapt toward a nearby skyscraper. “- dammit -” The wind pressure ripped all the sluggishness out of Andie’s body, leaving behind nothing but a burning adrenaline rush. “- CEDRIC!”

“Come forth, my Courage!” Andie landed with a tuck and roll pausing just long enough to summon her Virtue before she started running toward the next skyscraper on her way to what she was certain was Cedric’s awakening. Andie had gotten a funny feeling that Cedric was worried about something earlier, but when she asked him he denied it. So, she reasonably chalked it up to her misreading him worrying about her. After all, reading people was Cedric’s thing, not hers. Now, however, she was reaching a different conclusion.

Cedric lied through his goddamn teeth.
