Present day

-Luca-

…Drip…

…Drip…

Oily red liquid splashed against a hardwood floor. It was only made more apparent by the silence of the room.

Silence was good. It was necessary. Otherwise those things would come inside.

My leg was currently bleeding. I was hiding in a fishing shop under a table. Where did shadow and Alice go?

I was all alone. Why did this have to happen? That thing hurt so many people. It broke everything.

This was supposed to be fun. Why was it like this. “mommy… daddy… brother… chief… anyone please help me.” I cried.

I fished out a potion from my robes pocket and took a sip. I found that only a sip of a mid potion was enough to close wounds like this.

My leg healed almost instantly and I felt much better. Corking the potion I stuffed it back into my robes.

The potion was marked with a 95% tag. It won’t stack anymore. Putting it in my pocket served other purposes.

Pulling things out of your inventory took concentration. Using your hot bar also took a certain amount of concentration. Not much but the point still stands.

Getting hurt can actually make it hard to activate things. Like spells or the full potions I had stacked in my hot bar.

Having a mid potion to rely on was almost necessary. At least I feel like it should be. Something like this could save my life.

Though I will say this. Pulling it out in the middle of a fight would also be kind of hard, but not impossible.

I wish chief was here. Chief would be able to make me feel better. Why did I have to be alone?

This wasn't okay I’m a child I shouldn't be left alone. The adults are supposed to keep children safe.

The ground started rumbling as the boss moved across the landscape. Everything was shaking. I curled up praying that the shop wouldn’t collapse on top of me.

All sorts of knick-knacks were falling off the walls including a mirror. It broke on impact sending its reflective glass across the room.

A large peace managed to land in front of me. It reflected the face of an adult woman. Maybe she could help me.

In my fear I hadn’t realized that the so called adult in the mirror shard was no one other than me.

I was an adult…. But I wasn’t! I couldn’t be! I’m nothing like an adult. Mom and dad always have all their shit together.

I couldn’t be an adult! I wasn’t responsible enough. When you grow up you just kind of become responsible and turn into a different person.

You no longer forget to take showers. You learn to drive. No more skid marks in your underwear. You go to work and enjoy…… actually, mom and dad don’t enjoy their work.

They’re always tired when they come home, but dad is always smiling when I see him. So is mom.

They always look so tired but when I catch them they pretend to be happy. What if…. What if adults don’t know what they’re doing either.

Oh, I guess I never realized….. how do they do it? How do they not break down? Who comes to save them when they’re sad and crying.

No one… I always give mom and dad a hard time. I should have been nicer to them. If I…

I shook my head. No, not if, when I get back I’ll make sure to apologize and I’ll try to make them feel better. It’s not fair to have to deal with life on your own.

“someone help me.”

I waited and cried for a while but no one came. The room would rumble every so often.

I don’t understand. There was always someone to help me. Even though I was crying no one showed up.

Neither shadow nor Alice were answering my messages. I don’t think they were getting through.

Even the map was acting up. Some kind of interference. I don’t know any boss that could do that.

That's when I heard a crash from the back room. It sounded like shattering glass. I got to my feet and readied a bind spell.

Whatever it was I’ll bind it then blast it. I made my way to the back of the dusty shop. I was afraid to make a sound.

Gently I opened the door. Not even a creak. This was a living area. A lot of the NPC shops were actually homes with store fronts.

It looked like a kitchen and living room combo. This place was very lived in. The couch had seen better days and a lot of the pots and pans had dents in them.

I heard a creak. My head turned to a door on the other side of the room. This place was supposed to be evacuated.

I was either dealing with an enemy or a civilian clinging to their belongings. Either way bind won’t hurt anyone or anything.

It was basically a fancy net gun. I shuffled my way over. The door knob was cold to the touch. I turned it slowly and pushed it open.

On the other side of that door was what looked like a bedroom. From what I could tell it was meant for a child.

The window was broken and a long snake-like centipede was poking its head into the room.

It's body was completely black. It’s head swayed back and forth scanning the room with It’s beady bug-like eyes.

There was a soft creak pulling Its attention on what I assumed was a closet door. The door in question was a louver door. Meaning it had vent like openings allowing airflow.

The sound of a muffled squeak escaped from the closet as the centipede let out a light hiss. Its stinger dripped with toxic acid melting parts of the floor.

There was very little time to react but I unleashed my bind spell. A dark magic circle appeared under the centipede wrapping dark chains around its body and pulling it to the floor.

It thrashed and lunged at the closet. I ran forward and tore the door open. Inside was a little boy.

He couldn’t have been older than three. The little guy was crying in the fetal position… in a puddle of his own urine.

For a second I thought about how to carry him without getting pee on me… while I did that the centipede rapidly struggled with its restraints.

Oh, screw it! “Come on!” I reached for him pulling him into my right arm.

As soon as I had a good grasp on him I ran out of the bedroom. The centipede cried out in anger spraying acid in a last ditch effort to stop us.

Horrible screeching could be heard as I ran away…. Fuck running away! I turned around and activated a spell. “Shadow lance!” a thin rod of pure dark mana raced back into the room.

The spell entered the centipedes head and exited out the back. It’s body turned into an ashy gray then crumpled to dust.

My heart was racing. I couldn’t believe it. Was this what killing felt like. It was so raw. Even though there was no body it felt awful.

It was a monster. It wanted to kill me and this kid. I did it in self defense. What am I freaking out for!?

It was a monster! It’s not like I killed a dear or person…. maybe… it wasn’t that it was a monster.

I felt this way because of the action of taking a life. Of making something stop existing.

I know I didn’t like it… but at the same time I knew it wouldn’t be the last. Where the hell are the adults.

The sound of a collapsing building brought me back into the real world. The little boy cried under my arm.

I don’t belong in this world. To me the destruction of this place has little effect on me, but to him. His entire life is ruined.

This was so fucked up and I didn’t know how to fix it. Wasn’t it our jobs to keep the city safe?

I might not be an actual adult but I was all this kid had. His only hope. He was gonna be fine. I would make sure of it.

We couldn’t stay here. The building might fall at any moment. The kid continued to cry even though I was here.

I was the adult why was he still crying! I came to save him…. Unless he knows I'm not really an adult. How do I reassure him.

I thought back to the time when my parents and chief made me feel better. Its not enough to just show up. You also have to inspire.

What would chief say in this situation? “It’s alright kiddo. I got you. You’re gonna be okay. I'm the strongest there is.”

The little guy looked up at me all teary-eyed. I could see a trail of snot connecting his noes to my robes.

Disgusting. Don't freak out. Don't freak out. It’s gross but he’s just a toddler. Okay, I need to do something here.

I set the little guy down on his feet. “alright let's get cleaned up okay. I need you to be brave. I’m gonna use cleanse on us. It’ll be cold but don't worry.”

While I did technically have the cleric class it was only up to level five. I needed it as a prerequisite to necromancer.

I quickly slotted cleanse into my hot bar. Then used it on us at the same time. You couldn't normally do this in-game but the rules were different here.

A wave of chilling blue light washed over us. It was so cold! The little guy shrieked. I gave him a hug right after.

It was the light that cleaned us. It even managed to strip away some of the dust that had been clinging to the room.

“Your okay. Its alright sweetie. See we’re both clean now. Isn't that better?” the little guy looked at himself then nodded.

I curled my lips into a smile in an attempt to provide him with a sense of comfort. “Wow your such a brave boy. I’m so proud of you. Good job.” I held my hand up for a high five.

He understood the gesture and enthusiastically slapped his hand against mine.

I rested my hand on his head and tousled his hair. What a cute little guy. let's see, What’s his name?

I focused on him and watched as his name tag came up. “Alright Vincent. I need you to be brave for this next part. There's a barricade about two miles north of here. If we can get there then we'll be safe.”

I don't think he understood me. He looked confused. That was alright though. He was only a toddler.

I fixed my hot bar and picked Vincent up carrying him in my left arm. Then we went out the front door.

Outside we were met with the rank three boss. It was enormous. It's body stretched far, but it looked like it was mostly contained in this part of the city.

All around us I could see hundreds of centipedes. They hadn't noticed us yet. They all seemed to be hunting for pray.

There was something strange about the air. It was heavy and sour. It did something to me. Immediately I felt heavier. A de-buff icon appeared under my health bar.

I couldn't look into it now. The foot soldiers were tagged as “centipede minion”

From the looks of it their levels were low but I swear they were getting higher by the minute.

I reached out summoning my scholar staff. A long black rod manifested out of nothing.

My hand wrapped around its smooth narrow shaft and my focus flared to life powering the gem embedded in its head. “necrotic burst!”

a magic circle appeared out of the violet gem and a beam of pure darkness erupted out of its center.

The corrosive darkness cleared a path for us. I ran forward before the spell could even end.

Vincent closed his eyes and clung to my chest crying. Crud, at this rate by the end of this I’ll be covered in the stuff

I couldn't help but realize I was just like him a few minutes ago, but right now he was counting on me, so I couldn’t give up.

“Don't worry Vincent! These guys aren’t that scary. They’re super weak.” Using my staff I bashed one that was trying to sting me. Then activated a blind spell on it.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Even if everyone else dies, I swear I’ll keep Vincent safe. “Shadow Lance! Shadow missile! Bind! Shadow ball! Shadow spikes! Shadow splice.” I cast spell after spell taking one centipede down after another.

Their bodies crumpled into dust as the bursts of Shadow magic cut through them like butter.

Up on the roof tons more of them were gathering. Just as I passed under them a bunch of streams of acid came raining down above us.

I used my robes to shield Vincent from the wall of cascading green liquid. Then activated the spell dark aura.

Every spell I had was on cool down and all that was left was a stack of full potions. That was okay though.

A thin cloud of protection covered us and the acid seemed to halt at the ominous looking mist.

It wasn’t enough as I started to feel my skin itch, even though it wasn’t even touching me.

I needed to get it off. That’s when I remembered the ring that chief gave me the day we met.

I activated its ability. “Nova!” magic leaked from my body quickly converting into flame.

A burst of fire roared around my body, burning and scattering the acid in all directions.

Chief said if I ever found myself surrounded, I should use the rings ability. It was basically just an explosion of fire.

Chief called it pull my finger. I jumped high into the air then use my staffs ability. “dark star nova!”

Three magic circles appeared rotating around the tip of my staff as I felt a large portion of my power drain from my body.

The spell formed a ball of dark light and erupted a moment later unleashing rays of dark magic like a gothic disco ball.

Each stream of light cut through chitin and spun around like the blades of a blender leaving behind that dark gray ash.

The attack lasted about five seconds before coming to a stop. Every bug exposed to my attack turned to dust.

I landed on a roof top and saw the damage the acid did. It looked like parts my skin were a little red.

Just from the fumes? That was powerful acid. If I’d taken a breath the fumes would of destroyed my throat and lungs. I’d of been dead for sure.

“Oh, crap! Vincent!” I quickly pulled Vincent out from under my robes. “Are you hurt anywhere?”

He shook his head. I sighed in relief. “Good. Don't worry I'm gonna get you past the barricade. You’ll be okay.”

“Mo-Momma” he pointed his little finger in the other direction. I nearly broke into tears.

“…Oh……” Well… there goes my heart. This had become increasingly inconvenient. For a moment I thought about leaving the kid behind.

He was just a baby. I’m sure someone will help him. Someone more fit for the job. An actual adult.

I took one look at him and realized, no one was gonna come for him. I have friends. If no one came for me, then what hope did he have.

I could save them both, but not at the same time. I'll have to go back for her. Even with all this power, I can barely do a thing.

Adult, yeah right. I’m a kid too. How did this become my job? Someone should come and save both of us. It wasn't fair. I don't want to be an adult anymore.

I wish I could go back home. Back where I have no responsibilities. Where the only thing I had to worry about was getting to school on time.

Vincent smiled up at me. Somehow seeing his little face filled me with a warmth I will never understand.

I couldn’t help but feel better. I was doing the right thing. I might not be able to save everyone but at least….. at least let me save a few.

That was all I could really do. I wasn’t a Hero. I was just a girl way out of her league. I might not be an adult but maybe I could be brave too.

I started running. I ran with all my might. I was nowhere near as fast as shadow or chief, but I could move pretty fast.

I jumped from one roof top to another. I was guided by fear and the need to save Vincent.

This wasn’t so hard. I was almost to the barricade. I jumped again only this time something was wrong.

It was waiting from below. It took hold of my right leg and pulled me down into the alleyway.

The pain was excruciating. My leg was on fire as its stinger injected acidic poison into my leg causing the inside to melt.

You know poison was one thing but acid on top of it was just over kill. Was there even a point. Who was surviving acid only to die to poison.

“aaaah!” I screamed in pain as the centipede that grabbed me slammed my body against a fucking wall.

It shook me back and forth. I was like a rag doll in the mouth of the ugliest German Shepherd.

Vincent flew out of my arms landing a few feet away. The centipede swung me back around and I felt something snap in my leg.

I went flying and crashed into a wooden fence. My body crumpled to the ground. I knew one thing for sure there was a lot of broken bones.

I managed to swivel my head only to come to the horror of realizing it had torn my leg off and had started eating it.

I found it increasingly difficult to concentrate. I couldn’t even cast a spell. Vincent got to his feet.

He should run away. The little guy took one look at me and instead of fleeing for his life, he ran towards me.

The monster was distracted with the food it had acquired. Vincent used this opportunity to sneak past it.

I wanted to scream! To tell him to run away! Why the hell would he run towards danger!

Parts of my body were starting to feel numb and it was getting hard to move. The numbness didn't stop my blood from boiling.

Lucky for me most of the poisonous acid was left in my dismembered leg. That didn't stop me from feeling its pain.

Why did it hurt so much when it wasn't even attached anymore. “….chiii…eef….” I cried for chief even though I knew she wouldn't hear me.

Vincent made it to my side and tried to drag me towards the back door of another business but he was just a little kid.

I tried to talk to him but it took so much effort to form the words. “noo… get… oout… of here…” I don't know if it was my tears or the pain, but my vision was a little blurry.

Vincent shook his head. “no!” the little guy looked around for another way to save me.

He must of spotted something because he ran to a corner. I was trying to draw out another potion but I couldn’t focus enough to make it happen.

I must of hit my head. A concussion for sure. Vincent came running back holding the mid potion I’d taken a sip from earlier.

Though, the bottle was a little broken and had leaked more than half of its contents. The kid fed it to me and I immediately felt better.

I could feel bone crunching its way back into place. It felt horrible. Like watching someone push a broken shin bone back under the skin.

Only instead of seeing it. You felt the whole thing. I was gonna need a beer after this. Many beers actually.

It wasn’t enough to fully heal me but I could cast spells now, and right on time too. That thing was eyeing us like a pair of steaks.

Vincent backed himself against the fence while I started to activate a spell. “necrotic burst!” right as the monster lunged at us my spell went off.

I got scared for a moment as the thing seemed to be unaffected by the spell. It’s body seemed to hold for a bit longer than I was comfortable with.

Surely enough just at the centipede was about to bite into us. It’s body crumbled into black dust and was mostly blown away by the wind.

I felt sick. Vile began making its way out of my mouth and I ejected it all over the floor. This was an absolute nightmare.

I curled up on the hard ground and continued to cry. Vincent gave me a hug. I can’t do this. This was impossible.

So what…. Do I sit here and wait for help. We’ll most likely die before that happens. It won’t even be quick and painless.

Not unless I do it myself…… or at least for Vincent. I eyed him. His health was nothing.

I could easily choke him to death. No, that would be to slow. A spell? To messy. I could snap his neck.

I worked my hands around his head. He was so soft. So tender. With my stats it would be like breaking a KitKat bar.

His heart was beating almost as fast as mine. I could feel it’s pulse through the veins on his head. This… this was a mercy.

Vincent squeaked “Luga, bwave.”

His words while baby gibberish were loud and clear. He was trying to comfort me the same way I did for him.

I hugged him. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Please forgive me!” I cried even harder as my eyes released a fresh flood of tears.

How could I ever think such a thing! Stop it! Stop being afraid! Get up! Get up! Mooooove!

Despite my trembling legs and the numbness running through my body. I managed to get to my feet.

I opened my menu. The first thing I did was cleanse me and Vincent. It was time to look into that de-buff.

Name: Curse of oppression lvl: 2

Effect: -20 SR (Stat Ratio)

Duration: unknown

A whole 20% decrease. That’s so much for only level 2. That explains why I felt so weak. Well, no point in complaining now.

I started to mess with my build. There’s no way to fight like how I did in-game. It was inefficient. I don’t have the skills to carry myself.

I’m a glass cannon not a front line fighter. Surely enough with a thought I changed my class from Shadowmancer to necromancer.

With a wave of my staff I activated my favorite spell from my solo days. “dark summon”

Darkness swirled in front of us as I brought forth a death soldier. I couldn’t bring the centipede back.

It no longer had a body, but I could summon something out of the darkness itself.

The death soldier rose from the dark. It was made of ivory bone and held a sword of rusted iron.

It’s level was equal to the last enemy I killed giving it a level of 32. High for a centipede but not very high for one of my undead.

This guy had the power to level depending on how many monsters we kill. With its current level he? … she? …. It could pretty much handle all the small fry.

Once it levels up to 35 I can upgrade it to a death knight. With a death knight I’ll be able to summon two more death soldiers.

Little Vincent looked terrified. I patted his head. “Don't worry, he’s on our side. Vincent I’d like you to meet Skelington.”

I tried to give Skely a mental command and he heard me. The giant skeleton started dabbing. I immediately decided never to make him do that again.

Vincent looked confused. “see Skelington is harmless.”

He didn’t seem too convince. That was okay. The necromancer class was what I originally wanted when I joined TEO.

I Always thought it was cool, if not a bit inconvenient. It never really worked well with my guild. Shadowmancer was more useful in a party.

darkness was perfect. It did neutral damage to all the elemental forces, and it was super effective against light based creatures.

Necromancer was easy to unlock. You just needed a few levels in cleric and a single dark spell.

In the game dark summon was used to lure monsters to areas for an ambush but in this world….. Oh boy!

You know I don’t know why I never tried it. This could be incredibly useful. Imagine an undead army. Actually, with control limit it would be more like a battalion.

“Okay Skely! Time to get to work. First things first were getting Vincent to the barricade. Then we’re exterminating every. Last. Bug.”

Skely made a strange sound. He didn’t have a voice box so I had no idea how that worked.

I gave him a mental command to go ahead of us. He zombie walked his way out of the alley.

It wasn't long after that he was attacked but we managed to take care of the centipedes easily.

I was no longer afraid. I guess it was because I’d fallen back into my original role as support.

Even Vincent was enjoying our little stroll. Skely rushed forward swinging his blade down into the body of a centipede.

The blade struck true cutting it nearly in half. It’s body turned to that same dark ash.

The other centipedes started to surround the death soldier on all sides. I quickly activated a few hex spells. “bind, blind, gravity well!”

Two were held in place. One by dark chains and the other by pure gravitational force.

I commanded the skeleton to strike down the one that had been blinded. As he arced his blade the beast sprayed acid.

His sword hit but his leg started to melt. That was okay. I activate another spell. “mending necros!”

A dark power manifested inside my skeleton and his leg was healed almost instantaneously.

I've never heard of an acid that could break bone down. I was counting on Skelys resistance but he’ll just have to be careful.

Right on time to. A new hoard of demons had arrived and these were around the same level as my death soldier.

I looked to Vincent. He wasn’t scared. In fact he seemed to be having the time of his life.

I was still terrified. My legs were shaking. This is what adults do. They make children feel safe.

With a shaky hand I reached out and activated one of the two abilities my skeleton had. “War Cry”

The skeleton howled like a dying ogre. The centipedes all locked there eyes on my undead monster.

I won’t let him die just like that so I activated another one of my spells. “dark infusion!” bands of dark mana wrapped around Skelington.

He grew in size taking on more bulk. Even his oxidized sword turned into a shiny dark hunk of steel.

I was a bit intimidated by his new look. Vincent however cheered Skely on. “yeah!”

I quickly covered his mouth before he got us killed. It looked like the monsters were more focused on Skely than us.

Even with his buff he wasn’t high level enough to go head to toe with that many. I had a plan though. Skely was my tank after all.

With a thought I activated his second skill. “Undying” The spell increased his defense and would keep him from going below one HP for 15 seconds.

Skelys bones turned into a dark steel and the darkness around him seemed to grow in density. He looked more like a demon than the centipedes did.

I watched as those bugs launched themselves at him. He swatted a few away with his sword but was stung in the back by one of the bugs.

Breaking through Skely’s dark aura it unleashed a spray of poison inside his rib cage.

They were mindless creatures. Poison has no effect on the undead. If it had been acid then he’d be in trouble. I was hoping Skely could take a few down before I had to step in.

I activated the spell dark missile creating six compacted dots of dark mana. They had slightly less attack power than shadow bolt.

The only real difference was each cast made six of them and once fired they'll chase their target down until contact.

“Dark missile!” The bolts flew in swirling trajectories leaving a trail of violet light as they went.

One by one they all met their marks either killing or crippling there targets. Skely shook them off then started hacking away at their exoskeletons.

Three of them noticed us and darted our way screeching like hissing cockroaches. I pulled Vincent behind me then readied a spell.

Just before the first centipede could reach us I unleashed my rings spell. “Nova!” once again flame erupted out of my body. Vincent was unharmed thanks to the gap of air between us and the fire.

The closest centipede had its head melt and its body flung back. The other two met a wall of flame.

It burned there chitin and sent them flying. They crashed onto the hard ground and quickly recovered themselves.

I activated another necrotic mend for Skely as he finished off his last bug. His level was up to 35.

I checked his status sheet and ranked him up to death knight. His body grew and armor began to form around his bones.

A new light shown in his eyes as he used war cry once again pulling the remaining two centipedes attention towards him.

They screeched in rage wanting nothing more than Skelingtons death. Which was stupid considering he was already dead.

They wanted him un-undeaded? Does that make sense? Unanimated? They wanted him to not exist anymore. Yeah, that sounds better.

Darkness wrapped around Skelingtons body and weapon. This was the skill he unlocked. Dark cloak. It was an aura of darkness that buffed up all his stats by a whole 10%.

He charged forward moving at a generous pace as he decapitated the first centipede. The second one unleashed a spray of acid.

To my surprise Skely swung his darkness coated blade downward. Cutting a path through the acid using wind pressure! He was like some kind of shounen anime character!

His blade low he glided forward at a speed grater than before. With an upward vertical cut he sliced the monster in half, but guess what.

The centipede didn’t even realize it until it tried to move and it fell apart. “What! How!” While I was flabbergasted, Vincent clapped and bounced in excitement.

That made no freaking sense! Are you telling me the cut was so thin that the monsters nervous system could still send signals to the rest of its body!

It was cut in half! It’s brain was in two pieces! I call bull! There’s no way that was real! His sword is too fat for that to make any sense!

Despite my misgivings like all centipedes it’s body turned to ash. I was speechless. If I’d of known it would be so overpowered I would of done this the moment I got isekai.

This could have solved the whole needing a tank issue! The only reason we never thought of it was because necromancer was considered a terrible class!

All it takes is one cleric and your entire army is basically useless. It was fine for hunting monsters but for PVP it was impossible.

Especially since unlike summoned monsters, the undead can only grow stronger through battle.

Once you log out your army disappears and you have to build it back up. It was so bad that sometimes I wouldn’t close the game for weeks.

There was no logging out this time. Skelington was now a permanent addition to this world.

That reminded me. I reached out with my staff and used dark summon bringing forth a level 29 dark soldier.

Like Skelington he rose out of darkness. The newly undead looked much the same as my first undead and he wouldn’t be the last.

Once Skelington was level 50 he could become a death general and I’d be able to command two death knights and four death soldiers.

I could also use animate to bring back fallen mobs or NPCs. The only limit to their numbers was my wisdom stat.

“What should I name you…… Skelingtwo? Yup, that’s your name now.” I looked to Vincent, who was staring at the new undead with sparkling eyes.

I could summon another but it would end up at the default level of 10. I need to kill a higher level centipede before I try and summon again. Otherwise my undead mob will just get killed right away.

If I’d spent more time on the class then I could have increased that cap to 30 through skill upgrades.

Skill upgrades were pretty simple. As you level you get skill points. You can drop the skill points into any skill to either improve its potency, lower its cast time, or lower its cost.

Of course you could only upgrade a skill up to three times, after that you needed to head to a special facility depending on the type of skill.

For magic it was the usual mage college. For clerics it was anything from a church to a shrine. Even fighter classes had to hit up a dojo.

“Skelingtwo? What a lovely name! He’s so cute. Can I play with him?” I felt a tug on my robes. Turning my head I was met with… chief?

It looked like chief but different. For one she had horns and her hair was completely black.

Her eyes were a glowing red. But that was nothing compared to that smile. No one should ever make a face like that.

“Chief?”

She ignored me stepping forward and reaching out with a hand. I watched as a ball of what looked like fluorescent green liquid formed in her palm

It looked like she was gonna attack Skelingtwo. The ball of glowing magic ignited into a green flame.

“What are you doing!” I tried to pull her attention but it was to late. She blasted Skelingtwo completely obliterating him in an inferno of jade flames.

I felt pain in my chest and a copper like taste in my mouth. I forgot about that. When ever undead die the necromancer takes damage.

“Chief what is wrong with you!” I cried, falling on to one knee. My body felt weak. All of a sudden my emotions came forward and I was unable to hold back.

“Chief…. I cried for help but… but no one came! I tried really hard to be responsible! I tried really hard not to cry on the way here. I was smart and fought really, really hard-”

Chief didn’t respond at all so I continued as my tears mixed with dead centipede dust.

“-It was so scary. I killed so many but they kept coming. They hurt me but I kept trying. I called for you! You didn't come! You didn't help me! But… but even without you I managed to save Vincent…. You said you’d take me home! I wanna go home now!” Chief Was unaffected. Instead she calmly walked over to me.

“You’re a stupid child. You couldn't even save one human.”

I was confused. Looking up I saw Chief step forward using her hand to rip a hole through Vincent’s chest. His eyes were so wide. His face fixed into a permanent look of horror.

She pulled her hand out and was now holding a glowing ghostly green crystal. The object was covered in Vincent’s blood.

She popped it into her mouth like rock candy. Then loudly swallowed like she was gulping down a mouthful of water.

Vincent’s lifeless body fell. He was nothing more than a husk now. The child like wonder from his eyes had vanished.

The person that was once known as Vincent was no more. In his place was a lifeless corpse.

Then something strange happened. His skin turned gray. I tried to reach out for him, but before I could even touch him. His body turned to ash mixing together with the ashes of the monsters he feared.

“….What? …..But….. he was human….”

It happened so fast I couldn't even react. I didn't believe it. I didn’t want to believe it. Chief was a good person!

It’s all wrong…. Alice was right. I screamed in anguish “you monster!” reaching out with my hand I blasted Chief with a necrotic burst.

Before it could hit Chief jumped high into the air creating two balls of jade flame. She threw one at me but I jumped out of the way.

The jade fireball slammed into the ground collapsing the stone on impact. Red and green light rose as the stone seemed to melt away like butter.

She can't dodge in the air! “dark missile!” I fired off six bolts of dark magic. Despite being in the air Chief managed to twirl her body in a way that let her avoid the first two shots.

How was she doing that!? That’s not how physics works. “God dam monster!”

She drew out an all black sword. I watched as it glowed a deep red. The sword arced through the air cutting one bolt after the other.

Whatever she couldn’t cut she avoided until she had a better opportunity to shatter it.

She finally landed on the roof of a nearby building. Her smile never faltered. In fact it only seemed to become more uncanny by the second.

She finally fired the second jade fireball. I jumped out of the way feeling a wave of heat on my back.

Lucky me I didn’t actually get any fire on me. I commanded Skelington to charge at her. I wasn’t a front fighter but he was. I could support him form the back.

Skely threw his weight at chief swinging its blade down on her. She parried the strike causing it to slide off her blade and strike the roof top.

Dust erupted into the air just about blinding me and Skelington. That didn’t stop chief though as she used her blade to cut into Skelys armor.

I watched as chunks of dark metal came raining down off the roof. I couldn’t believe how sharp that sword was.

She was about to fire off another jade fireball when I used the spell “silence” darkness clung to her body and she was unable to cast.

For good measure I used blind and bind. Blind didn’t seem to stick but bind did. For a moment at least.

Dark chains wrapped around chief, but somehow right as Skely was about to strike, she tore them apart with her raw strength.

Skely’s blade came down on her but she avoided it then went for a slashing attack. There was a good chunk of armor missing.

Her sword slipped through the gap. I watched as Skely’s spine was severed in a clean quick motion.

My anger at chief turned to fear and for the first time in my life I felt like I was about to die. Surely enough chief appeared in front of me.

She was so fast, I didn’t even see her move. “mommy!” I cried. I rubbed my eyes as tears poured out of them.

I don’t know why I called for my mom. It just came out.

“Don’t worry kiddo I’ll reunite you with your bitch of a mother, but first I need to finish eating this world.” Chief’s hand was a blur and I felt it pierce my chest.

This couldn’t be real. I couldn’t die. This was all a game after all. I can’t die for real. I’m just a kid.

-Squirmy-

My hand felt warm inside this girls chest. I took hold of her soul and tore it from her body.

She turned to ash and in my hand I now held a beautiful jewel. It was violet in color and looked like a flower about to bloom.

“Oops, I picked it before it could bloom. Now it’ll never make it into adult hood.” I turned it over in my hand. There was no stem just the head of a flower.

“Oh, well. They always taste so much sweeter when they’re young. To bad I can’t eat it just yet.” I dropped it into my inventory.

“I shouldn’t have eaten that kids soul. Now I feel bloated, but I had to make a show of it. Kill one to season the other.” I licked my lips in anticipation.

No, I think I’ll save her soul for when I see him again. There’s nothing like a little misery to bring the flavor out of a meal.

“haha”
