Book 5 Chapter Seven; the Merging of Three Gates

Bannerman and Sadé returned. Jazmel introduced them to Deva and his faction. Deva was intrigued by Bannerman, asking many questions about his tempering and under levels. But the mayor approached them and Jazmel turned to face him.

“You guys are to stand guard of the gate.” The mayor pointed and Jazmel nodded. He motioned for Mary to take the lead, and they moved. Over towards the gate and Deva stayed next to Jazmel as they walked over.

“So you use swords?” Deva asked Jazmel. Who nodded and simply studied the gates.

“So you can see Mana and you use katanas.” He said to Jazmel. In his hands he was flicking a deck of cards and shuffling them between his fingers.

“These are my weapons.” He whirled through his fingers.

“You use cards?” Jazmel said, perplexed and Deva grinned at him nodding.

“My skills allow me to capture items and creatures in cards. I preserve them in the deck, and it allows me to use them later.” He explained and Jazmel couldn’t help but be interested.

“That sounds interesting.” Jazmel asked and Deva nodded.

“Yes, it is. I was a professional shuffler at a casino back on Earth. I guess the system gave me that skill when I got here. As soon as I appeared I had cards in my hand and then the rest is history. I got strong with this skill and the quests I have undergone. They have shown me miracles within the labyrinth.” He said and Jazmel could hear the wonder in his voice, he was so happy.

“We will hold the gate, our two factions. Then we can discuss other matters.” He said and Jazmel agreed, not knowing what he was offering, but right now. They had other things to consider.

The domains are merging!

Paldane told them and Jazmel watched as he soared above them. Sauntering above them on the wind channels. Jazmel watched him and shielding his eyes to watch him in the sunlight.

“Pet dragon?” Deva said and Jazmel told him so.

“That is only in its second evolution and its already that big?” Deva laughed.

“Who are you?!” he asked and Jazmel looked at him confused, but Deva simply shook his head.

PUBLIC SEEKER ANNOUNCEMENT!

THE MERGING HAS BEGUN!

ALL EXITS HAVE BEEN CLOSE FOR THE DURATION OF THE MERGING!

The system chimed and Jazmel groaned, the gate was merging faster than he had assumed it would.

“Sadé you are on the gate; I want you to stay up there and take aim and hit everything that comes this way. If they get past us, turn them back or turn them into a smear.” He explained, she bounded up the stairs with Kazumi and the foxhound raised the heat around them.

“Bannerman scout what we are looking at and how many. Don’t be seen, come back before they get too close.” he bid, Bannerman darted through the open gates and hurried off into the wilds.

“I cannot believe he’s not part wolf!” Deva was saying, but Jazmel ignored him.

“Mary, we are holding our ground here. kill everything, anything that gets close. crush it, get the points, get the stats. Temper your body and get your levels, this is where you earn master tier. I want that for you.” He motivated her, she was captivated by his words. He could tell. After all, she slammed her vambraces together and her armour formed atop her form.

What of me? Paldane asked him and he responded.

“Right now, focus on Bannerman.” Paldane flew off and Jazmel watched him dart through the clouds.

Not even an hour had passed when Bannerman came bursting through the gates.

“They are coming!” hot on his heels came, the beast tide or the beginning of it.

He climbed the stairs, three at a time and when he reached the top. He looked over the walls, sentries that made up the city guard. They were running around and doing their best to prepare. Jazmel peered over the wall and wanted to get a good look at the creatures running full sprint at him.

Paldane had been right, the beast tide was on the way, and it would be on them within the hour. They didn’t have much time; he could see all sorts of monsters within this beast tide. There were hobgoblins, trolls, and ogres. All shapes and sizes, creatures shambling and lumbering towards the main gate.

Jazmel was about to call out numbers and tiers from the way their Mana flared individually. But Paldane spoke in his mind.

Another beast tide!

“What?” he called out, too shocked to respond mentally. But another voice shouted to confirm Paldane’s words.

“Another beast tide from the west!” a stranger shouted over the din of preparing and citizens squeals.

Jazmel looked at Mary and she kept a straight face, but he could tell she was curious. Worried wasn’t the right emotion, she was cautious. Cautiously considering the thought of fighting two beast tides on two fronts.

But that wasn’t the worst of it, no the merging of three gates was something else. Because more bad news came.

“Another beast tide is coming from the east!!” someone else yelled.

Paldane confirm it please! Paldane careened in the air, turning about, and churning his wings to boost his speed. After a few minutes, he confirmed and Jazmel sighed.

“Three beast tides.”
