Book 4 Chapter Twenty-Five; the Bell Fields of Lylo

The water grew peaceful very quickly and all the fish and the eels he had seen before seemed to suddenly grow benign and quiet. He watched with interest as they all left and began to swim away from the alcove.

He took this moment to check over his stats, this was when he got a chance to see how he had grown over the two different parts of the domain he had entered.

He was happy with what he saw, and he quickly pushed them away and out of sight, he had stat points, but he wasn’t going to use them now. He was going to hold onto them for now.

As the last time, he watched as a gate formed and he stepped through it. The change in scenery was immediate, and he found himself on a lone hill, in a vale. It was a strange setting, fields all around him but what stood out for him. Was the guiding stones along different paths leading off in different directions. Simply put, it was a stone pillar that was about knee high. Looped through a borehole in the stone was a twisted rope and between each stone pillar where the rope had been threaded. A bell hung from the rope. He hadn't seen anything like this before, the gate had brought him out into a deep vale, a field that descended into a valley.

The gate had brought him to the outside of the pillars and the ropes. Jazmel stepped over some rope and ensured he didn’t disturb the bell, but once he stepped into the path that the pillars were leading to, the bell he stepped over chimed.

BEWARE THE TITAN!

That drew a sigh from Jazmel, he was worried about that. He hadn't seen a titan before, but he was already curious to see what, that meant for him.

He walked the length of the path following the length of the rope, each bell he passed chimed. A single note and then fell silent straight away, he felt nothing, but he took note of each bell that chimed. By the time he had descended the path and made it to the valley, he had passed 192 bells. He wondered why there were so many but he simply advanced.

He stepped pass the last one and immediately felt the pressure. He felt the killing intent as it created a dome about the entirety of the field and that was when he saw the man.

To call the being a man was to fall short of him. He was huge, he dwarfed Jazmel who was easily six foot two. This man stood easily at seven foot. He was all muscle and simply wore a kilt of bear fur and chainmail. It fell to just above his knees and he wore thick leather boots, made of bear skin and other materials.

The man was bare-chested, and scars of battle and war riddled his skin. In one hand he clutched a long bearded short haft axe and in the other he carried a doubled headed long handled axe. Another axe was stuck into his belt, but Jazmel simply looked at him. He wore a mask, a helm of such design that Jazmel couldn’t see his face or any of his features. Studying this man he could tell he was strong; he was probably as strong as the Knight of the revenant dragon. Uter had been so strong; it had taken the whole party to defeat. But here, Jazmel was on his own and he was sure this particular man might be stronger.

YOU HAVE ENTERED THE DOMAIN OF AGNAR THE FADED

YOU HAVE COME ACROSS A FALLEN!

AGNAR WAS A TITAN, HE HAS FALLEN AND FADED FROM MEMORY

DEFEAT THE FALLEN TITAN AND DISRUPT THE CORRUPTION OF LYLO!

The system chimed and he scanned the notification, making sure he kept the bear of a man in his sight.

“So you have come to seek my end?” the titan said, his voice gruff and muffled from behind the helmet. Jazmel simply watched him, trying to grow comfortable beneath the pressure of this man’s killing intent.

“I have come to stop the corruption.” Jazmel said simply and the masked titan nodded and grumbled in agreement.

“I see you have some purity in your heart, but I have been tasked with supporting the corruption. Tell me, how many bells did you pass?” he asked again and Jazmel looked back up the path, his interest piqued.

“One hundred and ninety-two.” He answered and the titan sighed, looking up towards the sky.

“I will add another bell when you fall here.” the titan said and morbidly, Jazmel realised that each bell was the spirit or proof of a seeker, ranker or master who had come across this titan.

“Come, fall before me and be remembered by the chime of melancholy.” Agnar the titan told Jazmel, he raised his axes above his head and crossed them.

Toll the bells!

A chord was struck and Jazmel felt his senses burn as some sort of Mana skill attacked all his senses.

FALL OF THE BLACK RAVEN HAS RISEN A TIER!

TIER III REACHED!

Jazmel didn’t even have time to be happy, he was in battle and Agnar was not so easily defeated.

“The bell tolls for us all!” he yelled, swinging his axes in a deadly dance, twirling them about his body trying to strike Jazmel down. Jazmel ducked, dodged, and deflected as best as he can and Agnar greeted him in strength.

Bell of reckoning!

Agnar raised his axes and crossed them again, but this time he slammed it into the ground. Jazmel’s keen senses told him to flee and bounded backwards he leapt out of the reach of the skill. When he landed after bounding backwards three times. A ring of eruption had exploded around Agnar, another skill created from his bell workings.

“You flee when you should fight.” Agnar mocked, but Jazmel was not swayed by words, not here.

Lacerate!

He cut the air, sending a swathe of Mana towards the titan who blocked it. Swinging his axe and meeting the skill with just his strength. The strike was sent astray and hit the ground crushing the ground.

“You talk when you should fight.” Jazmel uttered and Agnar grumbled but fell silent.

Great rumbling dragon!

Jazmel swung his skill, the maw flying to meet the titan and burst across his bare chest and arms. Agnar roared a defiant growl and waved his axes.

“I am a titan! We felled dragons in the hundreds, I waded into their broods and slaughtered thousands!” he wailed, rushing towards Jazmel, no skills just might and brawn. But Jazmel was a tyrant, his body built from tier tribulations and trials of strength and rewards, he rushed towards Agnar to meet him, and they clashed.

Sparks burst from where sword and axes met. Agnar was leaning into his axes, his mass far greater than Jazmel’s but the tyrant would not be overwhelmed so easily. He pushed back, exerting himself and thrusting Agnar off of him.

“You are mighty, it will be an honour to defeat you and I will try not to forget you.” He offered and Jazmel knew he meant it considerately, but it was morbid still. Jazmel was not planning on dying and adding to the toll of bells along the path.

“Agnar you have forgotten what the labyrinth means.” Jazmel said to him and tried to shake off the titan, Agnar wrenched back his head and butted Jazmel straight in his face. He felt his nose burst from the force and blood pooled from both nostrils. He coughed and back up, trying to breathe through his mouth instead.

“First blood!” Agnar yelled, suddenly euphoric and fuelled by his bloodlust.

Jazmel popped his nose back into shape, he heard it snap back into place. Blood flowed again, but he could breathe through his nose again. He licked his lips, tasting his blood and the tang was bitter to taste. Bleeding always bothered him; he didn’t like feeling his life’s blood ebb away. His body was healing, slowly but he was still prepared to fight.

He pushed forward, rushing to meet the titan who was growing drunken on his bloodlust.

Lacerate!

He changed the direction of his strike, inverting it and so his slash glanced off the double headed axe and then swooped through a tiny gap in Agnar’s defence and struck his helm. His mask sounded like a chord and rung his head like a bell. He dropped his long-bearded axe to the ground and clutched his head as if to stop the ringing.

Jazmel leapt forward, using this opportunity to strike viciously.

Cleave!

Cleave!

He struck twice one opening a big slash across the chest of the forgotten titan. The other carving across his mask and creating a huge scar, the unknown metal of the mask becoming brittle.

Toll the bells!

Vertigo wrenched at Jazmel like chains of distortion and a battle of wills made his usually stable balance flip. He fell to the ground, which felt like up for him and he struggled against the pains of this weird skill.

Bellringer’s Charge!

Jazmel watched unable to defend as Agnar rushed at him, all he could do was watch as his body rushed to try and fight the effects of the skill that affected his senses.

Agnar hit him, with the full force of a charging seven-foot man, all muscle and bulk. It felt like Jazmel had been hit by a rhino, his body jerked and bounced off of the floor. He felt pummelled and struggled to rise up from the ground. He coughed up blood, dark red blood and he cursed beneath painful breaths.

DING!

FRACTURED RIBS! (minor)

HEALTH BELOW 70%

That one charge had taken thirty percent of his health, and he was feeling the brunt of the pain. But he forced himself up, from prostrating, till he was up on one knee. He grumbled to himself through the pain and pushed up till he was standing.

“You are fierce little tyrant. You have made me remember such foes.” Agnar said. He was complimenting Jazmel again and he found it worrying, was the titan going insane.

Bell of reckoning!

He crashed his axe into the ground, as he was only holding one now, the radius of the explosion was smaller than before. But still devastating, Jazmel leapt out of the way and took the moment that the cloud covered him, to catch a breath and for respite.

Cleave!

He swung his blade and then ran to the left, away from where his strike came from. Through the clouds of dust, Agnar seemed to know where he was immediately. He pulled the short haft axe from his belt and flung it at Jazmel, it curled through the air and slashed at him. he deflected it and it struck the ground with a dull thud and imbedded itself into the ground.

“Little tyrant!” Agnar called into the dispersing smoke clouds.

Jazmel ran and leapt through the air, his sword high above him.

Fall of the black raven!

He bombarded Agnar with Mana, who fell to a knee before the strong strike of Daishinkan he roared in defiance, but Jazmel was not afraid of him at all. He slammed the butt of his sword into the mask, the sword heavy against the kneeling titan and being doubled with Jazmel’s own strength.

“You cannot best me with mere strength! I am a titan! Indomitable and unmoving!!” Agnar roared but Jazmel was done with the bandying of words, he pulled Nozarashi from his ring and catching it deftly from the air, he struck out and stabbed into the mask. He thought his sword would drive through, but the battered mask held still, it broke now though and crumbled away from his face. The thick metal pieces falling to the ground.

“MY MASK!” Agnar yelled and for the first time Jazmel saw the face of an older man. He might have been far older than Jazmel, but he realised within the labyrinth he could no longer tell. But Agnar’s eyes told him he had seen a lot and been a witness to great horrors. Jazmel knocked the axe from his grasp, he raised both swords. both katana’s and bringing them down, he brought out the demise of Agnar, the forgotten titan.
