[So, we said last time we would resume from where we left off last time. You were...incapacitated and strapped to a mammoth heading south, is thar right? How did it go after that?]
"Grug looked around for a bit, know Grug tribe go this way sometimes, not worried about Big-Heads or Bellowers."
[Bellowers?]
"Bellowers biggest of people who not-people. Bellower most dangerous too, they no talk like Big-Heads, eat and smash first, steal younglings first. Bellowers reason Grug tribe leave hill caves, try to eat younglings and steal hunt. Grug people grateful Bellowers get hot quickly if not in hills or big stone hills.
[Mountains? They stay in the hills and mountains?]
"Mountain. Grug like that. Grug not seen Bellowers, but Speaker did when young. Anyway, land on other side of Dark Forest pretty empty and boring. Grug let Nugzub guide Long-Snout group, Grug spent lot of time sleep, make rope in case find more shiny, and try new thing."
Grug puffed his chest out proudly, smacking it with a hand.
"Grug make ground-picture! No Big Cave painter do those. Only Grug make for many many moons."
[Ground-picture?] Banou pulled out her phone, and after a moment, showed Grug a picture of a map. [Like this, Grug? A map?]
"Yes, that what Grug make. Grug talk with Grug's Law-Speakers later about this. Grug find that he can draw on thin old hide with cold piece of burn wood. Grug make many hides, roll and tie with rope into big bundle on Grug's Long-Snout."
[So you could find your way back, that makes sense. But why were you talking about Bellowers earlier? It seems like you had a peaceful trip through safe country.]
Grug frowned, knotting his fingers together and raising them above his head, cracking them with a noise like rending wood. He pulled out a roc egg from his snack pocket and crunched on it thoughtfully for a moment.
"Grug business was just safe and local before trip. Know bad spots, know trouble people, pay or stay away. Bouldercorp travel herd of sell different knot of hide entirely. Grug was away from employees and guard, without Mug, need succeed in case long-winter come back, Grug tribe have no shaman to fight winter, bring spring. Stakes high for Grug to do good. Grug know first stop when leave on trip, Hill House tribe, live on edge of Dark Forest two hands of sun south of mountains. Grug go with Speaker, carry special pot when go speak to spirits when a Grugling. Nugzub go to trade for extra sour-berry for Grug before, so Grug not have to lead yet.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Grug not smell cookfire when get to Big Earth-spike, not far from tribe wood-caves and meeting cave. Grug not think anything wrong at time, but when Grug not see grey-air ,but only black-air that smell funny, Grug have Big Rock Burly Riders draw clubs and spears and slings, be ready for anything. Travel herd go round last hill and come on caves, see nothing but burnt wood-caves, splatted cavemen wherever look, and see Bellowers eat things in wreckage, hooting and gnashing teeth."
[That's horrible, Grug, you must have known people there, might have been friends among the wreckage.]
Grug shrugged grimly, but crunched gamely on another roc egg, continuing with his story amid puffs of shell.
"Grug lucky that he not very good with make friend until he came into business, learn how to. Grug see old Nacthur in dirt, miss leg with Bellower sit on him. That all, so Grug thunk quick, tell herd to make line behind Grug and Nugzub and wait for Long-Snout trumpet to go fast as can through village."
Grug's grim visage cleared and he smiled and laughed heartily, slapping his chair arm a few times in mirth.
"What happen next one of Grug favorite memories. Bellower tribe see Grug and Burly Riders and Long-Snouts, gather in big knot in front of where Grug travel herd going, shout loud, smack club and fists on ground. Grug wait until all gather there, then Grug poke Grug's Long-Snout in butt with spear. Long-Snout trumpet like Zugham when drop Roc helmet on foot and charge toward knot. Bellowers spit and swing club and yell, but Long-Snout smack left and right , like pebbles flying left and right, Bellowers learn how to fly. Bang, smash, crash! Grug and Burlies through the knot in two blinks, and straight out of valley, not stop until sun go to sleep."
[Weren't you worried the Bellowers would attack Big Rock while you were gone?]
Grug shook his head in negation.
"Bellowers dumb, they kept throwing selves in front of the Long-Snouts, got gored by tusk, stomped by feet, squished into wood caves by flinging. Last couple run for hills, not come back again, too scared, not understand why Long-Snout turn them into smush."
[We're almost out of time, Grug. Tell our viewers where you decided to go after.]
"Grug hear about there being another tribe on flat grounds in hide caves even more south, know much about hunt and how to find, will tell about Grug experience with them next time, Grug learn much about negotiating from friend Grug make there. "
[Well, I guess that's all we have time for today, folks! This has been Banou of Channel Big Rock, reporting live, interviewing the CEO of Bouldercorp, Grug Quicktalker. Signing off!]
