34: Six Elders of the Vika

He would become a live target if he didn't escape from here and heal his injuries. Another arrow was fired at him and this time John escaped with a wound on the back of his body.

John looked at Kevin's body with an unwilling expression and turned away as he couldn't wait to kill the High Human who made him blind in one eye. Numerous arrows were fired at him rapidly at a moment, so with a disheartened expression John slithered away from there with arrows firing repeatedly at him until he entered the Riya river. After John slipped away, the eagle carrying Kylie came down from the sky, took Kevin, and flew away from there.

With both eyes blinded, John entered the river by navigating through with his heightened heat sense.

Even though it was very hard to move or navigate with his huge body after losing his eye vision, it was very helpful in avoiding and finding obstacles beforehand. He stumbled around due to the boulders and other large animals in the water occasionally. John slowly got used to this situation successfully, after numerous attempts, he traveled under the water toward an unknown destination aimlessly while lamenting his loss.

John hunted numerous animals in the river to refill his depleted energy storage in a battle with those High Humans.

Meanwhile, in the sky, Kylie with a worried expression on her face handled the heavily injured Major Kevin cautiously. Kevin was bleeding heavily with multiple fractured bones in his body. Even so, he was not dead because of the fierce vitality of the High Humans, Kevin took a rest with his eyes closed knowing that he had done his best in this mission and all of his soldier's death was not gone to waste.

Kylie rode the eagle by giving commands to it with her tail attached to the eagle's head.

A few moments later, they reached the giant tree and set up a camp to rest and rejuvenate the health and spirit of the soldiers and others. In a large tent beside the giant tree, Major Kevin was bandaged with various herbal medicines and was sleeping peacefully in a corner of the tent under the care of a soldier. Contrary to relaxing and healing Kevin, Major Kylie was reviewing the number of soldiers alive and dead and documenting it carefully.

After finishing her duties, she took a chair and sat down outside the tent with a bottle of alcohol.

Drops of tears rolled down her cheek as she saw how many people had died and the loss of functionality of her squad left her with profound sadness representing the helplessness of the High Humans in front of the all-powerful nature & order. She took a brown scroll containing the details of the loss of soldiers and the giant snake's condition vividly and then whistled peculiarly.

A meter-long sky-blue bird flew from her tent, hovered over her, and landed on her right hand.

Seeing the bird, she teased it for a few moments as her mood improved, then she tied the scroll to the bird's back and let it free. It flew away and disappeared from Kylie’s eyesight. With a sigh, she continued to drink the remaining bottle of alcohol in the middle of the ancient forest, sleeping peacefully.

In the Capital of the Kingdom, Vika City, the land of the Vika Clan.

Just when the sun rose above the sky and dissipated the chilling fog of the night and coldness with warm and comfortable sunshine. A brown bird carrying a scroll on its back screeched loudly, as it entered the city.

The patrol and guard soldiers looked at the bird with a smile, as they expected good news from the troops they sent to hunt down some giant snake. They didn't even think about the possibility of defeat of their troops, because their troops had not faced a single defeat that was publicly known to them. So all the people in the capital waited for the news of the snake's death and the overwhelming victory of their troops.

The bird flew towards one of the Roman-style buildings enclosed by a large garden and guarded by several guards in full-body armor. In a certain room in that building, a fully grown High Human wearing luxurious cloth embroidered with gold endings took the scroll from the bird and let it go. The bird chirped twice and flew away to its habitat, which was one of the trees in the garden where a variety of its species and various birds reside.

With a scroll in one hand, the intelligence officer High Human walked towards one of the circular buildings with various pathways which was at the height of 20 meters.

There were multiple rooms on the way, but he bypassed them and continued to move toward the center of this circular large building at a rapid pace. A few minutes later, he stood outside the center of the circular building with a respectful expression on his face, as the two veteran soldiers inspected him and let him inside the room. The intelligence officer walked on a stone path with grasses grown which made his walking experience pleasant.

In the center of the room, six old High Humans nearing their end of life sat on their respective stone thrones with a Map made of stones of the Kingdom of Vika deciphered as accurately as possible on the circular table.

Each of them wore plain white cloth from their lower body and then extended towards their upper body as a cover, without any jewelry or ornaments. Seeing them, the intelligence officer lowered his head and presented the scroll to one of the soldiers in the hall who was wearing full body armor with a warm expression as he welcomed the intelligence officer while checking him to see if he carried any threatening items.

After finishing all the formalities, he led the intelligence officer toward the elders who were all chatting with each other while carrying books and discussing something, and explained “Elder, intelligence officer Jonathan is here with important information concerning the recent army mission in the southern east region.”

One of the elders with a disabled left hand said in a rough voice while looking at Jonathan “Your name is Jonathan right, what happened to the mission? Explain it briefly.”

Jonathan the intelligence officer tried to hand down the scroll to the elder with a disabled left hand “Elder Rhode, Major Kylie of the fierce eagle squad sent a letter explaining…”

In the middle of a conversation, elder Rhode waved his hand to the nearby soldier and let him fetch the scroll and verify the content. Then he said to the silent Jonathan “You continue your narration.”

Jonathan happily did so, as he explained in detail the losses and victories of the mission vividly to the elders. All the elders stopped what they were doing and concentrated after hearing that Major Kevin was heavily wounded and that most of the eagles of the fierce eagle squad were dead. The room's atmosphere became depressed and solemn as the elders displayed wrath and anger on their faces, upon hearing the most disastrous defeat they suffered in a very long time.

Jonathan stood silently in the hall with a depressed expression on his face for a few moments.

After a long period of silence in the hall, elder Rhode stood up abruptly at a speed that even fully grown High Human Jonathan couldn't comprehend and slapped the table which was a model map of the kingdom into a puddle of sand. This was only possible due to his absolute control over the power and there are only a few known people who could do so known by Jonathan.

Even though he knows about Elder Rhode through his grandfather who was once a soldier under him. He didn't know much about the strength of the Elder Rhode, he only knew he was once a famous general in the history of the kingdom and lost his hand in a fight with a strong enemy which ended with his victory.

Seeing the elder Rhode's wrath, other elders and the soldier on the duty didn't react much. They have all seen these types of situations sometimes in their long life in this hall.

Another elder with a long white beard holding a puddle of sand created by Elder Rhode said in an annoyed tone “Rhode you didn't have to destroy this valuable creation map to show your fury. It was a very valuable creation that will be very helpful for many things.”

Elder Rhode replied to him by saying “Noah, didn't you say it can rearrange itself? Even if it was destroyed, just think of it as an experiment to see if what you said is true. Now, let's back to the topic and see how to resolve the current predicament in the wilderness.”

Elder Noah, who was well-known for his expertise in the field of biological manipulation also let Rhode's rudeness slide and said “What's there to think about? Just send a general with his troops and destroy the giant snake to nothingness. Who do you all suggest as the general for this mission?”
