27: Near Death Experience

The lizard's injury recovered at a rapid pace, after this incident the lizard became very cautious. It bit the rabbit's corpse and climbed back to the tree. After it left, numerous insects appeared in the ground and began to eat the remains of the rabbit on the ground along with blood dropped from the lizard.

Everything that happened was observed by John in a camouflaged state. John looked at this and repeated the same experiment he did with the turtle on the lizard and the results weren't much different from what happened with the turtle. So with disappointment, John left, as he wanted to find an animal with genuine immortal traits.

Even though these animals had immortality traits, these traits consumed something to produce these results, and their regenerative abilities also appeared mediocre compared to his expectations. He understood that if he chose them as his next species there was a high probability that he could awaken the immortality trait which would be much stronger than these animals’ traits, but he expected more.

With more expectations, he traveled toward the next destination.

A few days later John stopped before a Riya river, but a long distance away from the range of Black Bear City. He came here, after not finding what he was looking for. He deduced that the animal he was looking for changed its habitat to another place due to some unknown issue.

So he tracked the animal down to this area with his extraordinary senses.

John looked at the river with scrutinizing eyes as he still hadn't discovered the animal he was looking for. There were almost no lifeforms on the surface of the river due to the dangerous raging water force that made it difficult for any life form to survive.

But he entered under the water smoothly with his robust body. Under the water, the atmosphere was peaceful and life thrived everywhere, with various algae, water plants, fishes, and predators. John looked at the various animals under the water with an intent expression.

As in the current life and previous life, he hasn't seen this type of variety of diversified animals unique to this river's ecosystem compared to the animals on the land. Even though they all resembled some characteristics of animals he knew, these animals all had very developed or evolved forms of their ancestors.

Like an electric eel that is floating before him, which is very large compared to the eels he knew from previous life. This electric eel has a glowing ball of light attached to its body like armor, which appeared very mystic and attracted other organism's attention. John was intrigued by this and was more interested in the reason for this ball of light.

Evolution would not develop useless abilities and the electric eel is one of the few animals with abnormal ability. If such a creature evolved, it would probably have an advanced ability based on its ability to release electricity. So, John looked at the eel and decided to test its potential.

He moved closer to the eel and touched it in a camouflaged state while holding his breath.

But somehow the eel moved from its position and avoided him. John looked at this in amazement and tried again, but the eel avoided him again. So, with no other choice, John used his human thinking to trap this creature. He circled the eel with his long body at such a distance, that the eel couldn’t sense his existence before he neared it.

This time John successfully surrounded the eel and touched it, the eel tried to swim away from there. But with John surrounding it with his gigantic body made it impossible for the eel to avoid this encounter. A sudden jolt passed through John’s body at the touch, he felt numbness and shock in his lower part of the body for a second.

For a second, John remembered his last life. In his childhood, he touched electricity from home appliances and lost consciousness for a moment due to his stupidity.

John came back to his senses and looked at the eel that lost all of its glowing ball of lights on its body. He probably understood the reason for the balls of light on the eel's body was to store electricity in its body in some way.

After the electric discharge, the eel with a weak body looked at a giant behemoth that appeared suddenly in front of it with fear and yelled in a low-pitched tone. John looked at this eel’s action with a smile and swallowed it whole, only leaving its low-pitched voice to echo in the surroundings.

John chewed and crushed the bones and meat of the eel together and ate it with relish in a mouthful. He felt a deep satisfaction, as he chewed the eel remains in his mouth slowly with a reminiscence. Just as John enjoyed the best meal as a snake in this world, he heard multiple low-pitched sounds from the surroundings.

With an ominous assumption, he used his extraordinary senses and looked around, which was oppressed by the water. He was greeted with dense light spots that appeared in the surroundings, almost covering everywhere he saw. John showed a dreadful expression on his face, as he deduced the worst possible outcome with the current situation.

With John as a center, hundreds of eels covered in balls of light on their body surrounded him, all the eels were ten meters long at minimum. John looked at this and thought at lightning speed to avoid getting killed, but all the assumptions only ended up with his death. With a desperate expression on his face, John numbly watched as all the eels neared him.

John even thought about what species to be born next, as he considered the current situation as a desperate crisis. Hundreds of eels came straight at John at their full speed.

He looked at the twenty-five-meter-deep water he was currently in, Suddenly he thought of a plan in desperation. Without wasting time, John twisted around and formed a spring shape with his body and pressured himself as tightly as possible on the ground. After pressuring himself to the limit, John let go and jumped out at full force.

The pressure elevated John at an insane speed and he broke through the water with an enormous power which made the surrounding eels dizzy and they momentarily lost consciousness.

John jumped out of the water and fell heavily on the riverbank. After he fell, John instantly slithered away from the river leaving only the confused eels in the water. After he got out of the desperate situation John reflected on the disaster he faced.

He was at start doubtful if the electricity discharged by a group of eels could hit him. But he doesn't want to experiment on him, as he doesn't have unlimited lives to waste on silly experiments, and his memory as a human triggers him to escape as far as possible when encounters a dangerous situation, unlike the animalistic nature of the snake.

John left the river with a heavy heart, as nature proved to him again that he wasn't invincible and there were still creatures that could kill him if he wasn't careful enough. John took this deeply and became more cautious in his next course of action and waited at the riverbank where he almost died. For the animal with immortal traits that he came looking for in the first place.

John returned to the riverbank after he thought deeply about his actions, as he just can't give up potential success just for a small defeat. So with a newfound determination and extremely cautious attitude. John waited near the riverbank a mile away from the waters.

The animal he came looking for was an amphibian, so it would not possibly stay in the water all the time, it would come out sometimes. John was waiting for that time, he waited patiently for a few days with occasional sightings of these animals. But these animals didn't get out of the water, they appeared inside the water and then returned to the water.

So with a frustrated expression, John looked at all of these animals maliciously. Even if he was deeply frustrated John didn't enter the river, as he still has some nightmares about the group of eels. So, he waited patiently on the shore for the animal, as he didn't have anything better to do.

Meanwhile, Major Kevin looked at the reply letter sent by the capital informing him of the backup sent by the capital on the way and would reach him in a short time. So with a happy expression on his face, Major Kevin ordered his soldiers to train more vigorously.

Food reserves were also refilled by the Black Bear City and all the soldiers appeared exceptionally motivated and were looking forward to hunting a giant snake. It's been a long time without these types of missions in the kingdom, and they will surely earn titles for themselves if they complete this mission successfully.
