Mistflower 34: Cursed, No More

Agnis got me up to date with the state of Witchaven which was now called Mishaspire. Selina Silverspoon, the Misha he had briefly introduced me was now the headmaster and the head of the council. She shared similar views with me and Remi.

The council was pushing back on her and opposing positive changes while she was spearheading those that were beneficial. Promoting Misha to figure out [Hattrick] and taking my research more seriously was one of the things the new headmaster was pushing.

Agnis, Giana, Raishin, Gregory, and 2 others were in Mishaspire to help the Misha in understanding [Hattrick] better.

Agnis didn’t want to give it to them for free. He just was here to add some hints and steal more magic related information.

Giana’s goal was slightly different as she wanted to lift the deadly sin curses that were plaguing Agnis, Raishin and Gregory. They had written a paper on how to lift them but it was incomplete as they needed a Misha competent enough to apply it.

Apparently, I qualify as a competent Misha. My appearance had completed their objective, just as it had completed mine.

“Oh ehh Azu... I didn’t want t osteal your kill but... that Vertoast used a mana ping to escape.”

“What?! Nooo! I don’t care about you stealing my kill. I just want her dead!”

I dropped my head into my hands.

“I’m sorry. I didn't want to have you go through all that to have someone else kill her.”

Agnis handed me a large bag. it had strange cold marbles in it.

“These are frost marbles. Frost magic absorbs magic of any kind. Kill her with this and no mana pings. She will be dead dead if you kill her with these.”

I forgave Agnis for letting Cockroach escape. he was partly right. It would feel better if I killed her and now I can kill her for good. I just have to put up with her one more time.

“Thank you, Agnis.”

“Also. I’ve spatially locked your house and lab as those councilmembers from ehh Mildew wanted to destroy your stuff.”

“Mildowa. Thank you for keeping my lab safe.”

Agnis gave me the spatial keys of the locks in case I wanted to move them. I had voiced my thoughts about not wanting to live here which prompted this.

I returned home. It had retained its azure look.

There were signs of someone living here but it had been kept tidy.

I was finally home. My research had become popularized in some form, I had the means to kill Cockroach for good and I would meet Raishin and Gregory tomorrow as that’s when we’re lifting this [Acedia] curse.

Things are finally turning around for the better. There are still so many things I’m unaware of or behind on but I will have enough time to figure that out.

The fairy invasion had made me worried about the spirit foxes and they eat spirits. Does this mean that our dimension is safe? He also has found an attractive vixen.

My only real problem seems to be the state of the dimension. I wonder what Agnis knows about this? Benji once told me that each mythical race sees a different part of the puzzle.

Am I ready to have my worries getting reaffirmed or increased?

For the sake of my peace of mind, I will not ask him. I will stick to my expertise.

“...zu. Azu!”

I woke up to Agnis holding his hands in front of his face but peering through his fingers and Giana who was shaking me.

“This feels criminal. I think I will wait in the living room.” Agnis said.

“That’s one funny pose yeah. Hey, I don’t sleep like that right?”

“Nope, you sleep with your butt sticking out. I will wait downstairs.” Agnis said after replying to Giana and leaving the room.

“Huh? What’s going on?” I asked as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes.

“We came to lift the curses remember? And...your sleeping position is... ahum let me help you.”

My mind was foggy and I felt lethargic. I had forgotten to take my energy drinks before going to sleep.

Giana pulled down my shirt as half of my left breast was exposed.

“Oh no! Did Agnis see me like this?!”

“We’re sorry. We thought that you wouldn’t wake up due to [Acedia] but we didn’t expect you to sleep like that...”

“Don’t feel bad Azu! That vixen sleeps worse than you!” was what Agnis’ voice said from across the room.

“I will give you some privacy, it seems Agnis needs to get his ass kicked with some charm blasts!”

Giana left and I was alone in my room.

The energy drink barrels came out and I drank a cup.

“This will be the last time I need this...”

I got distracted from the noise coming from my living room. It sounded as if a battle had broken out.

Curiosity got the better of me so I changed quickly and peeked across the corner to find Giana flinging pink charm blasts at Agnis who was evading and running for his life. Every evasive act sent [Water Blades] at Giana who just powered through them.

Despite it looking like a battle, they made no mess. They also didn’t break anything. Agnis made floaty jumps as if he weighed nothing and stood on objects that would normally break under a person's weight.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

These mythical beasts always have interesting things going on with them.

Giana was... slow. It got highlighted as Agnis was blindingly fast.

My observation got interrupted as both looked into my direction with sapphire glowing eyes.

“It seems Azu is done.” Giana said as she walked over to me. Agnis followed to which Giana turned around and blasted him with charm magic. “Gotcha!”

“Cheater!”

Pink energy clung to Agnis who sat on the floor defeated.

“Is he going to be ok?” I said as I pointed.

“Oh yeah. The men in our race are quite sensitive to charm magic but they can also hold it like a battery. This is how a 9t couple interacts with eachother.”

“9t? What does that mean? Ans good morning Agnis, sorry that you had to see me like that...”

“Agnis uses it to refer to nine tailed spirit foxes as that’s quite a mouthful.”

Agnis got up and dusted himself off as if he was recovering from a minor fall. “its the afternoon... I will get Selina, the headmaster. Give me a moment.”

Agnis opened the front door and pulled a half asleep Misha inside. It was the same Misha he had introduced me to.

“Hey Selina! Wake up!”

Agnis shook Selina who jolted up and looked around.

“Ugh, I’m sorry about that. Please give me a moment....”

Selina took out a mirror and several creams to make herself more presentable. It made me realise that I had forgotten my skincare due to curiosity.

Agnis flicked a small nut at Selina’s face. He used to do this to several girls in Boshi town who had layers of make up on. Something about wondering if it would crack if something got flicked at it.

“Ouch! What was that?!” Selina looked around and Agnis feigned ignorance.

“Good afternoon, my name is Selina Silverspoon, the current headmaster of Mishaspire. I welcome you to the city.” Selina made a polite bow and showed off the patterns on her hat.

“The name is Azu, what happened to Remi?”

Agnis explained that he had burnt Witchaven down as the Mildowa council wanted to seal Remi away as Remi had sealed away the Witchaven council as revenge for what they did to me. Remi had escaped safely and Bea had also been a key player in burning Witchaven down.

I held my hand to my chest in relief. “So Remi and Bea are doing fine? That's good to hear. But Bea, that idiot thinks I'm dead? I’m not surprised…”

“Oh Remi once gave me this blue stone to contact her. I kinda forgot about it.”

Agnis handed me a blue teardrop. It was how Remi and I used to communicate with eachother back when I was still a student.

“And with this my work is done. I’ve done all I could for the Misha. I won’t bother your race ever again after we got rid of these curses. You can do Misha things in peace.”

Agnis leaned back in the couch and relaxed.

His words didn’t sit me well. I might not know everything but didn’t he warm up the Misha to my research? What does he mean he won’t bother me again.

“Can I leave you 2 alone with each other? My dear Agnis is quite socially challenged. I need to scold him for a bit.” Giana said as she got up.

“Huh what? They call me the Silver Menace, surely they will be happy if I leave them alone!”

Agnis got dragged upstairs by Giana. It wasn’t as dramatic as it sounded as Agnis seemed to weigh next to nothing.

“Mythical beasts are so strange...” Selina said as her eyes followed the 2 foxes.

“Hey Selina. What do the Misha think of his contributions?”

“Well it’s a fact that he has pranked many Misha and even destroyed some structures here and there but... his papers on Misha hat security, substitute catalysts, several magic skills, and more importantly [Hattrick] and the paper pertaining to lifting deadly curses are a great boon to our society. We can’t decide whether he is a blessing or a nuisance...”

I got curious to what pranks he had unleashed on Witchaven. I could easily believe that he had contributed a lot but I’m not very fond of this city so I want to know what suffering they had gone through.

“So about these pranks. Can you tell me about it. I could be considered his mentor.”

Which was true even though I hardly taught him anything.

Selina rummaged through her bag and fished out some reports.

“His main offense was stealing Misha hats and catalysts, making them powerless to do anything to him. Just this allowed him to live in the then Witchaven for over half a year as even the headmaster, Remillia Dawngale, was unable to catch him.”

Selina flipped some pages. “He had used spatiotemporal magic to scramble every room in the academy, clocked the mana collectors, made a slime in the sewers explode, causing the streets to get flooded by green flammable slime. Granted, that slime lifeform had been caused by Misha not separating their magic potions and flushing them down the drain.”

That gave me a chuckle. Separating our potions into the appropriate waste categories was quite important back when I was a student.

“He had also unleashed boars into the city. Each was numbered but he had intentionally omitted some numbers causing the Misha to look for boars that didn’t exist... he also dumped garlic oil into our water supply causing every Misha to smell like garlic for 3 days and more...”

We got interrupted as the foxes came back downstairs.

“I ehh, have seen the error in my ways. Will you accept ice cream as an offering?”

Giana crossed her arms and tapped her foot. “Deca, what exactly are you apologising for and what will you do differently?”

“Hey did you get some sort of personality change or something?”

“Deca...”

I had noticed that these foxes call eachother Deca. Does it mean something like darling or sweetie? Either way Giana didn’t seem happy with Agnis’ response.

Agnis noticed and backed away from Giana. “I apologize for being shit.”

This earned Agnis a headlock. He didn’t seem in pain jsut inconvenienced.

“I am sorry for being emotionally retarded and not realising that you might want to have me stay involved with the Misha!”

“See! That wasn’t difficult!”

Their interaction made me laugh and I got up. “You’re forgiven I want cake ice cream!”

Agnis stopped struggling and stared at me. “What the fuck is cake ice cream?”

“Ice cream that tastes like cake!”

“Uh, I can make strawberry cheesecake ice cream.”

“Perfect!”

Agnis got released and I sat down with Giana and Selina while Agnis went to the kitchen.

Giana laid the paper on the table. This paper would help me to get rid of [Acedia].

It was well written. It had some difficult parts that i had to explain to Selina. Giana had written it under Agnis’ supervision. Agnis was teaching Giana how to use magic like how he and I use magic.

The method isolated the intent of the curse to such an extent that only that section of the curse needed to be dispelled. The rest of the curse would collapse into nothingness when we did that.

Agnis had determined that the intent was to show off and I concurred. Cockroach just wanted to show everyone how great of a skill she made. It’s intent wasn’t to kill as I would have been dead if that was the case. And so would Agnis, Raishin and Gregory.

Ice cream got placed in front of us and I started to eat. I had never tasted anything like it but it might have been the best thing I’ve ever eaten. Who would have knonw that cake ice cream tastes better than just cake?

I kept eating and eating and hit the bottom. “Huh? Done already?”

Agnis looked at my empty bowl and the half filled bowl of Selina and Giana. “Right... I guess I’ll make more...”

Agnis returned to the kitchen as I continued studying the research paper.

While Agnis and Giana had done the work of writing this paper and finding the method. In the end it was me who would have to get this curse off me. Not a goddess, not someone else.

Another serving of ice cream got placed in front of me and I got up.

Agnis had been plagued by [Acedia] and [Gula]. His [Acedia] had killed him which activated the stone prompting my teleport. He was free of [Acedia] because of it but he still had [Gula].

I applied the theory of that paper on Agnis. The intent of [Gula] got isolated and after 10 minutes of dismantling it, the curse fell apart and disappeared.

“Oh, the execution isn’t that hard!”

I tutored Giana, a healer, and the headmaster who managed to get [Acedia] off me.

“Do you mind if we incorporate this paper in the curriculum on how to dispel curses?” Selina asked after storing it as if it was a national treasure.

“Sure, you can do whatever you want with it. How about you stay here, rest and eat ice cream while i get the others?”

Agnis pointed at a large cart of ice, holding mountains of ice cream.

He faced Giana who was looking at him. “You can come with me if you want.”

Giana shook her head. “Thank you. I think I will rest a bit more. I will come running if you cause trouble though!”

“Running? I could burn this place down 10 times over before you arrive!”

This earned him several charm blasts which he evaded. He transformed into a Misha before leaving the house.
