Mistflower 22: Spatiotemporal Problems II

“So... what I just learned is that Ree Soo is where the 8 legged mythical beasts are worshipped. But there is information talking about it’s existence but also information about that area being the East Gcehaio ocean.”

I scratched my head after writing that down. “Hmm, yeh, it had been an ocean in my younger years over 2000 years ago but it had also been an ocean before I left for Nesher. Can a continent appear just like that?”

I got up as some fairies had joined the conversation by entering the hall and I impaled them with [Azure Spears].

“Well, this is what I mean with learning these things indirectly. There is no information about the 8-legged mythical beasts but all information I do have ties to Ree Soo.”

“Hmm, so because that continent popped up, those legged beasts exist. A continent popping up out of nowhere is strange but with civilisation and inhabitants on it is even more bizarre.”

I sat down, stretched and looked for my pen. “Where did I put m pen?”

“You’re sitting on it...So I told you this dimension is larger than the rest, right? What...what if another dimension merged with it. A dimension with the number 8.”

I retrieved my pen from under my buttocks and thought about it. “Hmm. That could explain the size, our dimension having multiple numbers. It also explains the sudden appearance of strange objects and a continent even though I don’t understand how that works. It did feel as if something collided with our planet, or more accurately the space around us when the Great Calamity happened.”

Everyone remembers the enormous unusual spacequake that happened and is called the Great Calamity. It felt as if something had smashed into us and sent everything flying that wasn’t under a spatial lock.

My pen dropped.

“But that doesn’t explain the numbers 5 and 9 that our dimension still has! Are you suggesting that something like this has happened before?!”

Muqu picked up my pen that had rolled toward her.

“I don’t know. I can only retrieve information up to something that’s called the Great Blank or Great Eraser.”

Was the Great Eraser a similar event? As far as we know, only information had been lost during that event. Nobody knows what caused it. Nobody would be able to confirm that more races or more continents would have been added as if any information prior to it got wiped out...

Is something causing this? Gods maybe? There is the Sarian goddess of chaos and the spatiotemporal. I’ve met 3 Sarian gods and 2 of them are assholes. It wouldn’t be surprising if that one was an asshole too.

My dislike for gods kept growing and growing. I had no evidence but surely the Sarian goddess of chaos and spatiotemporal stuff has something to do with this.

“Hmm, thank you Muqu. That was... eye opening. But isn’t that a good thing that there are more mythical beasts now? It should prolong the life expectancy of our dimension right?”

“I don’t know. Whatever information I can find suggests that the tailed beasts are incomparably more active than the legged mythical beasts. The legged versions are more or less acting like... gods.”

“Noo! Anything but that! We’re so doomed! Why did we get 8? Why couldn’t we get 9?1 we need more foxes with fluffy tails!”

“Are fluffy tails the only thing you care about...”

“The 3 tailed cats and the 6 tailed tigers are nice too. They don’t have tails as fluffy as the foxes though.”

“well, back to the topic. This language belongs to Ree Soo but there is no information on these spires. Only a legend of an evil creature that created things similar to these spires to destroy the world. But they should be fictional, not real.”

“Great... so we’re stuck in a fairytale from another dimension, exactly what we needed...do you know the details of the story?”

Muqu shook her head. “There are too many versions. Only several talk about spires and those that have spires don’t sound similar to our situation. There is too much to go through...”

I wonder how many people know about this. It certainly isn’t public knowledge. I’m sure the east coast of Kaledon has noticed that a new continent had appeared. How would it affect the environment and ecosystem? A large part of the ocean disappeared, that can’t be good right? What about the displaced water? Did some areas flood? Or did the water get deleted?

Too many questions and no answers.

We finished the puzzle and entered the spire.

I expected a room of monsters but we got into a large space with floating platforms, portals and distortions.

Only a small part adhered to normalcy as many parts of this space were upside down, sideways or slanted.

“I hate this... don’t tell me that reaching the end is the puzzle...”

Muqu looked around. “I suppose flying won’t be accepted and we will get shot down.”

“I don’t know about that. I don’t think that flying will help us here.”

I hopped on my fan and flew into the space. It went well until I got flipped to my side and freaked out.

The suddenness caused me to nearly fall off. Gravity still seemed to pull me to my relative ‘below’. The whole room seemed to have flipped with me and Muqu was standing at the entrance but to me she seemed sideways.

“Yeah...flying is allowed but it’s not very helpful this place is made to disorient...”

Muqu spread her wings and flew to me and also got flipped to the side and got into a similar orientation as I was.

“So where do we go now?”

That seemed to be the problem with this space. Getting flipped was so disorienting that just picking a spot to go to wasn’t simple.

There were many parts that seemed unique enough but using them as landmarks wouldn’t make the experience reliable.

“Azu, how about you lead. I will stay heer. After you get flipped try to use my position to orient yourself.”

“Hmm, you want me to use you as a reference point. That might work.”

I looked around and tried to remember the area and moved forward. I got flipped upside down after flying for several meters and I looked around after locating Muqu.

“Muqu! This room scrambles the moment I get flipped!”

“Are you sure?!”

“Not 100% but I don’t remember that wall over there!” I pointed at a dark purple floating wall.

Muqu looked at where I was pointing. “What wall? I don’t see one.”

So Muqu this is a spatial maze that changes layout after every block...I always admired the ancients but this is ridiculous.

Muqu and i kept up with our plan while trying to navigate through the maze. Every block that we moved changed the layout of the area slightly. More and more walls appeared which made it impossible to go into certain directions.

The walls started to appear in the distance at first but some spawned next to us which restricted certain directions.

The first portal came close and we were unsure whether to use it or avoid it.

“What if this portal disappears after someone goes through it?”

It was easy to answer that question. I should have done this earlier.

I sent a clone through the portal which disappeared afterward. The clone appeared above us. She was far enough to not recognize her. The only thing indicating it was my clone was the blue and pink colors on her.

“So when portals appear we have to take them together...”

“Well, more and more walls are appearing so our plan might fall apart at some point.”

I started to wonder what could have inspired the ancient civilization to create this. Muqu’s information didn’t exclude the possibility that these things were made by an ancient civilization so I will continue believing that the ancients built them but...

Why is it so similar to the buildings of the ancients from our dimension... is it possible that they could communicate between dimensions? How feasible is that?

One thing is for sure. Whoever manages to find out what exactly happened before the Great Eraser will go down in history until it gets wiped out again...

I got a nasty feeling that it’s possible that the Great Eraser isn’t the first one and not the last one either. Scientists have dated several ancient buildings and some seem to be over 15 000 years old. That’s over 11 000 years of missing history...

Muqu and I hopped into a portal and arrived at a relatively empty area.

What if we managed to hop into a portal and emerge in a time before the Great Eraser? Both of us are immortal so...

Wait... our memories will just get wiped. Many council members from Witchaven had been born before the Great Eraser but none remembered anything besides their names and several unimportant snippets.

The first monster appeared but it was weak enough to get destroyed without causing problems.

The experience got increasingly frustrating as questions just piled up the more I thought about it.

“Aaah! I don’t care anymore!”

I grabbed Muqu and sped up and flew around randomly.

“Azu! Wait! We certainly will get lost like this!”

“Maybe that’s the point! Spatiotemporal magic has deep ties to chaos!”

Not many elements can cause reality to cease making sense. My affinity to spatiotemporal magic isn’t strong but I know one thing; If I were in charge of creating this maze I would throw logic out of the window, even abandon it altogether and create an experience that punishes logic.

Nothing in this space makes sense so why would logic help?

Getting flipped around induced dizziness which caused my flying to become even more erratic.

I tried to avoid a portal but I failed to evade it and we flew through it and crashed onto a floor in front of an opened door.

“Ha! I knew it! Let’s continue...after I take a nap...”

[Acedia] kicked in and I went for a comfortable nap.

People were screaming and the world was falling apart. There were fairies everywhere and tears revealed the creatures from beyond.

I shot up sweating and panting. Muqu gave me a concerned look as my eyes darted around to find an answer.

“You seem to have had a terrible dream.”

Muqu sang a song and water magic washed over me and it refreshed me and removed my sweat.

“I...I dreamt that the world ended...I blame this stupid spire.”

“I cleared the monsters from this room.” Muqu pointed at a room filled with water puddles and ice formations spread across the room.

“I’m sorry...” I chugged some energy drinks to combat my [Acedia].

“No problem, they were quite weak.”

The subsequent rooms had weak monsters. It was the perspective of a Misha and an extradimensional fairy however.

We had a relatively easy time just like the flaming spire. The only gimmick the monsters had was teleporting.

The 10th room had boring teleport pads. They leaked mana so I could trace the mana trails and find the correct route. I appreciate the sloppiness but I did get worried for a moment that it was a trap.

We then reached the last floor, at least we thought it would be the last floor. Uf this spire is similar to the flaming spire, we should have reached the top.

The first thing that came to my mind when opening the door and laying eyes upon the floor that seemed out of place was...

“I want to go home...”
