Azure 9: Intercontinental Flight

Azure 9: Intercontinental Flight

16 days after I left the Hurricane Path. I’m bored. But I have to survive for a bit longer. The first island should come into sight any time now!

4 hours passed and still no island. “Noo! Don’t tell me that I miscalculated!”

I took out my notes and started to recalculate. I also checked the map. I had marked my approximate location.

“Ugh, I have to wait till nighttime to make an accurate calculation.” I was aware that it was possible to calculate my location without the stars but I wasn’t good at that. I needed the stars to get a more accurate result. I was still flying south so I was still on course. I might have deviated a bit or a lot. I need the stars to find out.

It was freakishly cold. I was prepared for the cold but it was still unpleasant.

The stars revealed to me that I didn’t screw up. This can’t be right. I must have made a calculation error. I recalculated 3 times. Does that mean this map is incorrect? Maybe the scale is off. Or maybe the slight inaccuracy that is human error places the original island far enough that I can’t see it from this altitude. Either way, this is a problem as I was relying on this island to kill my boredom.

Death by boredom. It’s a more embarrassing death than getting killed by [Sink] in the desert.

The morning came and still no island. Did the island sink? Or did a lunatic or a volcano blow it up? I started to nerd out on more possible scenarios.

Day 31 after I left the Hurricane Path. The first island never appeared but the second island should appear anytime soon! I had made sure to recalculate beforehand and made sure I was on the right track!

6 hours had passed and no island.

“Oh, come on! Sure, maybe 1 island got unlucky but having 2 islands disappear is ridiculous! Who is it? Some stupid god that’s pranking me? Come out and show your face, you coward!”

No island and no god. Is there something I’m missing? This map started to become very suspicious. What if this continent doesn’t exist? Or what if this continent is west of Kaledon and not south? Wait that doesn’t matter. The mana trail was going south. Nesher or not I’m going in the right direction.

What could possibly wipe out 2 islands? Nothing suggested flooding. Or it must have been a substantial amount. The history that I read about was about the continent not about world events. If the water levels had risen by a substantial amount, I must have missed it but…

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

This map should reflect it.

39 days after I left the Hurricane Path. I spotted an island. An island that wasn’t on the map. Isn’t this wonderful? Maybe it’s a wandering island?

The island looked like a mountain with some land around it. Is it a volcanic island? I had been waiting for an island so I would check it out.

The weather on this island was strange. One side had snow fall from the sky but no clouds, the other side had rain, again no clouds. It made me reluctant to land. It will have some sort of bullshit that’s going to make me regret landing on this island won’t it?

I landed on the snowy side of the mountain. It wasn’t cold. I have already no idea what is going here and I’ve only been here for 2 minutes.

I got rid of my coat and changed into a dress as it was quite warm here. Don’t tell me that the rain on the other side isn’t wet.

The snow was cold as I could feel the cold after scooping it up. But the surrounding temperature was nearing tropical levels. I had read that a lot of strange things have been happening on the continent the last 2000 or so years. Is this one of them? What is going on with this world?

It was a relaxing stroll. I could finally stretch my legs after so long.

The island seemed uninhabited. I spotted a snow fox.

“Come here cutie! Let me cuddle you!” this fox was super-fast or I was slow. I saw a strange bird. It looked fluffy. I also couldn’t catch that one.

The rainy side of the island was strange too. It wasn’t wet as I had guessed. Fish were swimming through the air.

“This world is crazy…” It was as if this island was ignoring anything else besides ‘water’.

The ocean is made out of water so fish can swim here. But it ignores that water is wet. Is this some powerful magic at work? There was a lot of mana on this island but I couldn’t determine if this was some ancient skill. It could also be the aftereffect of a skill.

Just as the magic named [Spark] can start a fire, the fire isn’t magic but it’s caused by magic. The fire resulting from [Spark] won’t be able to be traced by sensing mana as it is the result of magic and not magic itself. However… what kind of magic would break physics or reality like this?

At least I would have a lot to nerd out on the rest of my flight. This island creeped me out a bit so I resumed my flight.

The calendar year had passed and I was flying again. I had made sure to set a large cake apart for myself and ate it on December 40th, the last day of the year. I stopped trusting the map. I had found another ‘island’ which was just a group of large rocks with nothing on it but some migratory birds. These didn’t steal my cake though. Seagulls are assholes.

And I saw it, 5 days before I was supposed to see it. Nesher. But wow it has a lot of elevation. From what I could see, the continent was mainly elevated and jungle. It was hard to find areas that didn’t have jungle.

I got a better look the next day. The continent had several snow-covered mountains. The parts at the shore did have areas that did not consist of plants and trees but it was either rocky, beach, or inhabited. At my current speed, I would arrive the next day in the morning.

Exhaustion and happiness washed over me as I landed on the beach early on the next morning. I had made it! I wanted to say that I had gone where no Misha had gone before but that was untrue, that Imposter was somewhere on this continent. But one thing was clear. Her ass whooping will be all the more intense and satisfying after going through this ordeal.

“Nice one Imposter! Fuel my desire to kill you even more! You won’t be doing yourself any favors!” is what I said but I collapsed from exhaustion.
