Untalented

Once I turned four, my entire crying world came crumbling down. Mom became more brunt with me if I cried, as well as Papa; they had both changed their demeanor, so I had to change as well.

It was to be expected; after all, four-year-old kids aren't supposed to be so reliant on their parents anymore. It was just a fact of life, so I abandoned my cry life quite fast.

Now that I could speak and, more importantly, walk, I could finally be a little more independent. Being tied to the inside of the house was blocking me from the outside world after all.

"Mom, can I go play outside?"

"Sure, but be careful around the animals, and run back if you see any monsters."

"Okey, mama."

The outside world was amazing; maybe I had overreacted at the lack of video games; nah, who am I joking? I still missed my Y-box. Even so, this world wasn't so bad.

Even though it wasn't Earth, well, maybe it was, but it was definitely not the same as the one I was initially from, as there were no magic powers back in my world.

You read that right! This world had a magic system! Oh, heck yeah! I got so excited the first time I saw my mother casting fire magic to start a fire; the casting dumbfounded me!

She just pointed her hands at the fire and said. "I'm the source of all power, bend the laws of nature, and cast a warm flame! First fire!"

And just like that, a flame of fire came shooting out of her hands directly unto the pile of wood under her stove, which quickly lit up.

I wanted to copy her move so badly that, for the past few weeks, I had been going outside to try the castings for myself; I thought I could do so because I was a reincarnation in an isekai story, but I was always disappointed.

"I'm the source of all power, bend the laws of nature, and cast a warm flame! First fire! First Fire! I said! FIRST FIRE!"

I probably looked dumb, pointing my hands at a small pile of wood while casting what appeared to be meaningless words, but I was sure that was the exact words and posture Mom had adopted! So why was magic not working!? Where was my OP power at?!

I tried again and again, but there was nothing! Not even a little spark of magical power, nothing at all. I could have sworn that Dad said magic was like second nature to everyone worldwide! So why was I not able to use it?!

Despite my failures, I kept trying on a daily basis, not missing a single day of this dumb, simplistic training regimen of mine until my dad found me doing it one day.

"What are you trying to do?"

"Oh! I-I wanted to do what Mom does! I want to use magic!"

"Uh? How cute, but you're too young to cast powerful spells like those, especially without a grimoire. Do you want me to teach you something easier?"

"Yes, pwease!"

"Alright, same posture, different spell. Please repeat after me. I'm the source of all power; hear and heath my words! Aqua Splash!"

A large splash of water appeared from my father's hand, making a large pool of water next to a tree. Naturally, I followed his steps and tried my luck with his advice!

"I'm the source of all power; hear and heath my words! Aqua Splash!"

Out of my hands, however, nothing! Absolutely nothing came out! Waaaahhh!!! Not even this supposed low-level spell was activated under my best efforts; Dad saw me crying and immediately hugged me to comfort me.

"It's okay, it's okay, Anabel, calm down, calm down. Sometimes, it takes kids a little longer to get the hang of magic; don't feel bad. It's completely normal!"

That didn't make me feel any better, but I supposed he was right; I was in another world with magic, just that made this world incredible; maybe I was just getting ahead of myself.
