Chapter 16: KP engine

"This stew has a good flavor to it." Buster simply eats the food I made him without any more fuzz or comments regarding the whole world people's situation, probably not wanting to worry me, so I stopped pressing the matter since he didn't want to bring it up.

"How did it go with the hunt? Did you catch something for me?" I ask Buster, who almost immediately points to his side bag, probably letting me know my food is sitting there. "Yeah, I got you a little something, alive, of course, since you make faces when the food is dead." Oh, come on! Was it that noticeable I didn't like dead blood?

Without further ado, I simply walk to get the bag, where I find another little magic rabbit that tries to run away from me as soon as I get it out of the bag. I kind of felt bad for the animals I had to suck the blood of, but I had to come to terms with the fact that it was either drinking their blood or starving to death, and I didn't want to die. Thank you very much.

"Thank you for the meal, Mr. Buster," I say to the massive guy simply keeps eating away at his food without even batting an eye when I dig my teeth into the rabbit, quickly consuming its blood and therefore killing it in the process as the rabbit looks at me with it's dying eyes it made me feel like an asshole.

"Don't sweat it, kid. You remind me of me when I was your age." Buster opens up another conversation as he finishes his meal, followed by a loud burp that makes me feel good about it, maybe because it meant he liked what I made him.

"Why is that?" I ask him back, and he answers with a short, sweet answer. "I used to be weak and magicless like you. I still barely know any magic at all." What Buster says caught my attention quite fast. I thought that his aura and power would be all magic-related, but what he said could have been that it didn't.

"How are you so powerful then?" I ask Buster back, who again responds with a short answer. "The short answer is training; the long answer is that I am a legendary master of KP energy." KP energy? Did he mean Ki? Like back in my world? Ki power? The energy within you?

"Would you teach me?" Buster stands up excitedly and puffs his chest when I ask him to be my teacher, probably because he has been waiting for that moment his whole life. "Of course, but you have to make me a promise if I teach you the ways of my master and his master before me."

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

In all seriousness, Buster walks toward me to place his hand on my head, making me feel small, as if I needed that right now. "What is it I have to promise?" As soon as I asked Buster, he gave me an unexpected answer.

"You have to promise not to use these techniques and powers to do evil things. Our fighting style is meant for self-defense and the defense of others, not to harm people for no reason; you must promise before I teach you anything." Shit, well, now he sounded like my karate teacher back in my school years, but this time it was different since this world gave me a blank slate to write my story so I could try to change my ways.

"Alright, I promise not to use your techniques for evil things. Still, how would I know if I am good at using your powers?" Buster busts out a laugh when I throw my apparently stupid question to him, with his answer being quite shocking.

"Oh, kid, I believed you were a boy back then because you were irradiating KP energy, which is usually found in few young boys, so you might just be the first girl ever to have it." There it was; could it be that I had some tremendous hidden powers after all?

"It's not much, but you should be able to flee and fight off one or two werewolves once your training is complete." Of course, I didn't, hadn't I learned yet? I can't have anything too straightforward, can I? It is almost like the writer has some sort of beef against me or something, I swear.

"Anything is better than being defenseless my whole life. I'd rather be able to run away fast enough than die at the hands of a predator." Buster laughs and pats my head as I say that, probably because he found my comment funny, which was the intention.

"Yes, sometimes you must stand your ground, but if a conflict is not worth your time, just let it go. Fighting people left and right only gets you into endless troubles, it's best to fight only when you have to." So that's why he didn't just go and finish the clan of wolf people once and for all? He seemed strong enough to do so, albeit in a way he was right.

If you think about it, going around and erasing an entire clan of people is not the sort of thing that leaves you alone, living a life in peace. Someone is bound to want to seek revenge for their loved ones who will trace you down and seek your death, so yeah, I could see why Buster wouldn't want that.

Wow, so my master in my previous world was right as well? Fighting people for no reason only gets you into trouble, and it's sometimes better to just walk away and avoid a pointless fight. My time in this world changed my perspective on life a little, after all.
