Chapter 28: Miracle or revelation?

Chapter 28: Miracle or revelation?

It was such a foolish mistake to believe I could defeat so many men on my own, as it turns out that my stamina isn't good enough for such a task. As to how I know I don't have the stamina, the proof is in the pudding. With my body unable to move after taking down another two men, I only managed to kill five before my body stopped steaming, and it all went downhill from there.

My muscles ache in tremendous pain, and the spear on my chest doesn't allow me to move from the ground as it presses me firmly against the ground while the men in their moose laugh at my expense. "You little bitch! Who would've thought you had that much of a fight in you? Shame!"

I fought with all my might, I gave it my all, and it still wasn't enough; at least if I die this time, I won't have any regrets; I did the best I could with the little power I had, and I fought valiantly, but all shitty things must also come to an end as well.

"Sir, should we take her dead or alive?" A man who, I assumed, was his superior, while they slowly made their way toward me holding a sharp, looking axe to cut my head off, I supposed. There would be no record of my death, and I probably wouldn't get my body buried either; what a shitty way to go, isn't it?

I looked up to the sky one last time, noticing the darkness of it all as I tried to make peace with my soul and fear of death. The breath coming out of my mouth left with that all too classic steam from your body heat as I closed my eyes, resigning to my demise.

"Let's take her alive, the emperor said, dead or alive, but I have a feeling he will like it more if he gets to kill her himself," The leading commander says just in the nick of time right before the axe made contact with my neck as I open my eyes again seeing the axe nearly inches away from my head.

"Aww! Dang it! I wanted to be the one to get all the glory!" The man with the axe places his weapon on his back while removing the spear embedded in my chest. "UGGGGHH!" I grunt in deep pain as having something as big and stuck in my body hurts like hell.

The men laughing at me soon place cuffs on my hands as they forcefully turn my body around to put my hands behind me and also to grope me a little. "Come on, we don't got all day." The leader demands his men to move it, and they all obey even if they talk badly behind his back. "That douche prick thinks he is all that because his daddy is the duke."

The man who now holds me says in a quiet voice, which wasn't meant to be heard by anybody else but clearly showed discontent. As I prepared to walk back, I noticed how the snowflakes falling from the sky slowed down, and the moose the men rode walked ever so slowly until it all stopped.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The world suddenly stopped moving, including me, the men didn't move, and neither did the hand of the guy behind me touching my butt, yet I didn't understand until I heard a voice from one of the frozen men. "Have you learned your lesson yet? You callous liar?!"

I recognized that voice. It was the voice of the goddess of reincarnation who sent me to this world; why was she here now? What the hell did she mean by that?! "Why are you doing this? Isn't this punishment a little too much!?" I ask the goddess, who transfers her consciousness to another soldier closer to me.

"Why, you say? Wouldn't you? You committed a grave crime and pretended it wasn't much; this punishment is hardly out of hand. I believe that cursing you to die over and over and forcing your soul to always reincarnate as a girl is a good way to punish an opportunistic liar like you."

The goddess says with such a cold tone that I can't help but feel guilty. I mean, she was right; I lied to get reincarnated because I didn't want to suffer the eternal fire of hell, but my choices now placed me in a worse position than hell. "Why did you come to see me anyway?"

I ask the goddess who takes over the man behind me, finally moving its hand away from my rear as they say in a cold tone. "I came to offer you a deal." The goddess says while they use the hands of the frozen man to touch my shoulder from behind. "What kind of deal?"

"As an immortal goddess, I grow bored of watching the same thing over and over, so I'll cut a deal with you for some entertainment!" What kind of sick goddess was this? Entertainment? What could a god find entertaining?! Was I supposed to put up a puppet show or something!?

"Right idea, wrong genre." The goddess responds to my thoughts, which freaks me out but at the same time reminds me that duh! This is a goddess. Of course, she could read my mind. "What is it you find entertaining? Watching me squeal and suffer as men rape me or something?"

"Uhm, I won't deny I did find that a bit entertaining, but no. I made you a disruptor in this world with the anti-magic barrier I placed on you, cursing you never to be able to use magic, but you surprised me with that weird energy that made you steam so much." The goddess moved the man to be right before me as they removed the cuffs from my hands.

"So what is it you want?" I ask her again, now noticing how the snow from uphill looked like it was falling ever so slowly while the men stood still, frozen in time. "I want you to disrupt this world even more for me. I have grown tired of the same drama shows of this world, and you seem to be the perfect break from the ordinary and expected things I hate from it."

"Yes! You have a deal! I will disrupt the world as you ask, but can you promise me to let my soul into heaven if I die old?" The man possessed by the goddess frowns at me while pushing me to the side of the hill as they give me their answer. "You are in no position to ask anything else from me now; appreciate my miracle and survive as long as you can!"

Time suddenly resumes, and I find myself falling rapidly from the side of the cliff while the men above get suffocated to death by a massive avalanche that precisely stops before going down the cliff with me, and my fall breaks from the thick snow below.

To be able to do such a thing in such a controlled manner confirmed my suspicion. That the thing that visited me had control over fate itself or even higher, but why would someone like that find my life entertaining? I guess I should've asked. It's too late now, but I appreciate it.
