Chapter 9: To Hell With Your Tracers!

Chapter 9: To Hell With Your Tracers!

Of all the spells I've been crafting since Mediocris Gloria last time, it seems the fusion between some elements which have a bit of conflict is a bit harder. One of them was my fusion Incendio and Glacius. Trying to make a fire with ice properties even if you think it is impossible, is quite possible. Although it took 1/40th of my mana in one go(which is quite a lot, don't get mistaken), the result was satisfactory:

Frigidus Ignis

Requirements To Cast: 1,100 mu

Temperature Of Produced Flame: - 10 degrees Celsius

Color Of Produced Flame: Pale Blue

To summarize, when I cast the spell, it releases flames that freeze the target. The spell goes through the materialization process twice. First, the molded mana get materializes into pale-blue flames and shoot out of the wand/hand. The flames also contain molded mana which when hit the target, materialize into ice, freezing the target. Truly terrifying. Once I get a wand, I can add this property to Firestorm.

Fuck, I need wands for everything!

I became proficient enough in Aguamenti to chant Aqua Eructo. How you ask? Nothing just used Aguamenti as drinking water and to water the plants in the garden. If you say that it's wasteful, let me ask you a counter-question.

How the fuck would you use a spell that only spews a stream of water from your hands?

It's not even a jet of water like Aqua Eructo. And that has used, especially against rioters. But that's beside the point. Once I got Aqua Eructo, I modified it to be of better use in a fight. It changed to:

Ardens Aqua

Requirements To Cast: 100 - 1,250 mu

Temperature Of Produced Water: 175 degrees Celsius

Pressure Of Produced Water: 10,000 psi - 1,25,000 psi

The concept of Ardens Aqua is fairly easy to understand. A spell that creates a jet of scalding water. I fused Aqua Eructo. This spell has a few problems.

Firstly, I tested the pressure in the minimum setting, and it is exactly as advertised, a jet of scalding water. At this pressure, it's a good distraction and the splash of water is a good AOE attack and DOT damage. But, the problem comes after I use more than 30,000 psi. It can cut through stone...

Hey, isn't that a bit too much?

But this problem gets offset by the next one.

Secondly, my Protego can block me from at most 60,000 psi of compressed water. And that's my Protego. I'm not even a fully grown mage and tank that much pressure. But you could say, that there is still the option of using more psi. But that question gets answered by the next problem.

I've noticed an interesting thing. After I read the muggle books on science and learned their units of different phenomena, the units that I see in Spell Crafting changed too. Although I don't what they changed from, I certainly remember that I didn't call the unit of temperature, Celsius. Although I don't remember what I used to know about the units as it certainly helps that the units in Spell Crafting change to suit my knowledge as well. Is this the work of the Laws Of The World? I won't ever know, I guess.

Back to the problems with Ardens Aqua, thirdly, my body can't handle this magic. My body can only handle up to 30,000 psi as it doesn't create a force against my hand because there is a gap between my palm and the point where the spell is released though the gap is really narrow. Any higher than that will create a force against my hand and break my arms. Yes, I did experience that first hand. I conjured 70,000 psi of water which created enough force to smash my arm bones together and launch me backward. I had to stay in St. Mungo's for a week and get an earful from my mom after that. So to fix this problem, I had to create new magic.

Body Reinforcement and Total Body Reinforcement. The first one strengthens one or two of my limbs, making them a bit more resilient to force and damage. The second one is the same as the first one though it strengthens my whole body and requires a bit more mana to chant. And for some reason, this one had the worst conditions for its creation. I thought that just directing mana to my limbs or gathering mana throughout my body would be enough to create it. But no! I tried almost all the existing ways but none of them worked. Then, I remembered the worst method to create it. No, it's not the worst method because it's inefficient. Its efficiency is only third to the best method. No, it's the worst because you have to be a massive masochist to willingly do this. Yes, that's right, you have to temper your body through pain and damage.

Basically, you have to circulate mana to the limb you want to reinforce and release magic to attack that limb. Yes, it's quite painful. But I don't have a choice, do I? Also, I can't reinforce my body all at once because I don't have spells that damage the entire body at once. So I have to do it one by one. And it's not like I can ask my mother to help me either.

"Mom, could you cast some damaging spells towards my body? Huh, no I just need to feel pain."

I don't want my mom to think of me being a fetishist.

Jesus Christ, how much are you gonna fuck me over, Law Of The World?

So after months of torturing myself by using both my custom spells and the original spells on my body, I finally learned Total Body Reinforcement. I'm not doing that ever again. I look at myself in the mirror and feel a sense of accomplishment. I've truly come a long way. It feels like yesterday when I was just a baby. Now, I see a tall boy with a scarred body and an athletic body. He has a decent face, black hair, and ocean-blue eyes. Yep, that's me. If you're asking why I have scars, that's the evidence of having trained in Total Body Reinforcement. I have burned myself, frozen myself, battered myself with spells but didn't have a spell to cut myself. So, I made one:

Ventus Cogo

Requirement To Cast: 150 mu - 200 mu

Shape Of Produced Wind: Blade/Bullet

Speed Of Produced Wind: 5 m/s - 10 m/s

This spell shoots out a blast of compressed air from the tip of the wand or finger. To shoot a wind bullet, one needs to just aim his wand and chant, but for me who's using his hands, making a finger gun or flicking my fingers is the trigger to do it. For the wind blade, one needs to make a swiping or swinging with their wands/hands. If you think the speed is slow, this m/s or meter per second not km/h or kilometers per hour. It's plenty fast. This spell is different from Diffindo which severs anything you wand at. Since Ventus Cogo, it has more weaknesses. Mainly air resistance and solid objects. The spell has no piercing power so diving into cover is a good counter to it. Protego also works better against it then Diffindo

I used the wind bullet to batter myself and the wind blade to cut myself. I removed to burn scars because they'd sting but I felt lazy to remove the scars from getting cut. If it didn't hurt, no need to heal.

With great strides in spell making, I also made some buff and healing potions:

Adrenaload: Causes the adrenal gland to go into overdrive, greatly increasing adrenaline production and enhancing the effects of adrenaline resulting in enhanced perception, ability, and ability to think.

Liquickheal: Pouring on cuts, bruises will instantly heal them, Drinking them will result in a slow but widespread recovery of the whole body.

Adrenaload has a bizarre side effect. Whenever I drink it, although the effects are as intended, they cause my eyes to emit faint blue light. One that becomes really apparent in dark places. I found the cause. One of the ingredients was also bioluminescent. But, I haven't found a better ingredient so I'll keep it as it is. And hey, it doesn't really cause me problems.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Speaking of eyes, the 2nd-grade magic, Mana Eyes, and Mana Search were surprisingly easy to create. I thought I had to use some convoluted way to obtain the two of these. But no. They were fairly easy. Redirecting mana to my eyes let me see the different types of mana in the air and making my irises emit faint purple light . And also let me see an interesting thing. The wands of Charlie, Percy, and George, and Fred had something inside them. It'd emit some sort of signal once in a while.

What is that?

I also made a variant of the potions I created. The effects are almost the difference is that the potion turns from liquid to gas when the container breaks. Which gave rise to:

Vapyro: Causes a small explosion of flame when the container breaks on the target.

Mistice: Produces a vapor-like mist which when breathed in will freeze the lungs.

Vapyro is basically a grenade. Mistice isn't as overpowered as I thought it to be. Mistice needs to be kept in a chilled environment and I can't keep separate storage with a Cooling charm for these as I plan to keep my potions inside my robes and on a belt. I keep the potions in individual vials to carry much more of them without getting burdened by the weight. I'll think of a separate solution for storing Mistice.

I finally feel prepared now.

Today is my 11th birthday. As I was having cake, an owl flew in, dropping a letter off before leaving.

At least eat some cake before you go. Jeez, owls these days have no manners.

I pick up the letter only to see that it's stamped with the crest of Hogwarts. It's the acceptance letter for Hogwarts. I show it to my mother and we open it excitedly:

Fuck YES! I can FINALLY get a wand.

My mother and I were ecstatic albeit for different reasons. We quickly plan a trip to Diagon Alley to get my supplies. I had most of the requirements. I only needed the wand, the robes, and uniforms. Oh right, also a pet. Guess, I'll get an owl.

The day comes finally and I had hardly any sleep from the excitement of getting a wand. My mother tells me to get ready and after getting ready, we stand in the fireplace to go to Diagon Alley using something called Floo Powder. It's a nifty little thing. You say the name of the place you want to go and it teleports you there in a burst of fire. And apparently, it's way safer than Apparating. I mean, I can see that.

Have you seen how space twists when you apparate? Yeesh, that must not feel pleasant.

We arrive in Diagon Alley and it looks a bit rustic, to say the least. But there are stores everywhere. Foods, candy, pets you name it they got it. I activate mana eyes just to get hit with a burst of colors. There are so many mana signatures. The mixture of colors looks a bit beautiful. I quickly ask my mother to lead me to the wand shop. We walk around a bit and stop in front of a shop called 'Ollivander's Wand Shop'. It looks a bit rundown but we go in. Inside there was a desk with a bit of empty space in the front and shelves full of boxes filling the rest of the store.

I ring the bell that was on the desk and after a while, I see an old man with long, unkempt hair emerge from the shelves on the side.

"Yes, how may I help you?", asked the old man, who I presume to be Ollivander

"I'd like to buy a wand for my son.", said my mother.

"Ahh yes, so it's Mrs. Selene Balor. It seems like yesterday when you came in with your father to buy a wand. If I remember, it was a 7-inch Walnut wand with a core made from Unicorn Hair.", reminisced Ollivander.

Damn, do you remember everyone's wand? Alzheimer's can't touch the dude.

"Yes, that's right", confirmed my mother, "And today I'm here to buy my son his first wand."

"Yes, come right this way, little one.", he beckoned me.

I come close to him and he takes measurements of my hand. Then tells me to wait and leaves for the shelves. After a while, he comes back with a box in his hand. He opens the box to reveal the wand inside. I activate my Mana Eyes, hopefully, he hasn't noticed my eyes turning purple.

There's also that small button-like object inside the wand as well. My Mana Eyes highlight the wand to be colored pale-blue while the small object is colored white. There's also a red highlighted core.

"Here, give this one a wave.", he hands me the wand.

I give it a wave and a small spark flies of inaccurately. At that moment, I see the white thing pulsate.

Is it sending a signal? Is it a pinger?

"Hmm~ phoenix feathers won't do.", he shakes his head.

He then again goes to the shelves and brings me a wand. I test this one as well but it ends in failure. The pinger is in this one as well!

He hands me a third wand and I see the pinger in it as well. Before I wave it, I suddenly ask, "Uhh, Mr. Ollivander?"

"Yes?"

"Is there an object in the wands which send out signals?"

He looks at me with a brief look of surprise before explaining, "Yes, there is. All the wands here have a tracer inside them."

"Tracer? What for?", I ask with suspicion.

"Young wizards and witches aren't able to cast magic outside Hogwarts before they graduate."

My eyes widen at the shocking revelation I received. I snap my head around to look at my mother only to see her turning her head away to avoid eye-contact with me.

My eyes narrow.

You knew and didn't tell me. I've been practicing magic without surveillance ever since I was 5 and I sure as hell ain't going to be under surveillance now.

To hell with your tracer!

"Thank you for your time. But I'll come back another time.", I said as I began to leave.

My mother looks a bit surprised before leaving with me but not before saying, "Sorry Mr. Ollivander, my son is a bit eccentric."

"That's fine. Come again.", bade Ollivander farewell.

As I leave the shop, I still have my Mana Eyes up. I look for the mana signature of wands. I keep walking and searching.

My mother asks, " Where are you going, Sol?"

"I'm searching for wands."

"You could've gotten one from Ollivander's."

"I don't want a tracer in mine."

I keep walking and I enter a dark alley. I look up and see a sign saying, Knockturn Alley.

"Be careful, this place is full of dark wizards.", warns my mother.

Before I could respond, the pale-blue signature of wands enters, my vision. I enter the shop from where the signature is coming from. I enter a shop which looks much better than Ollivander's. Cleaned up, without damage, organized, just how a shop should be.

"Hello, how may I help you?", asks the clerk.

"I'd like to order a wand without a tracer.", I said politely.

"Right this way.", as she begins to lead.

The clerk measures my arms before leading me to a shelf with a bunch of wood samples on it.

"Please, hold your hand over the wood samples and pick the one which best resonates with you.", she asks politely.

Even before she finished asking, I was already eyeing a sample. I felt the slightest hint of Death and Life Laws from it. It was there but was very weak. And for some reason, I felt a pull from it. Is this the resonance she mentioned? I instantly point to that wood and said, "This one. This wood fits me the best."

"Would you like to view the others?"

"No need.", I refused.

"This is Yew. It represents the power of Life and Death.", explained the clerk.

Haha, I knew it!

"Then now we'll test your compatibility with cores.", again the clerk started leading.

This time she led me to a shelf with three small spheres.

"Please hold the cores in your hand and feel the one which resonates with you best.", asked the clerk once again.

I quickly hold and feel all three cores but none of them strike my fancy. I put the cores back and shake my head.

"So, you aren't compatible with Unicorn Hair, Phoenix Feathers, or Dragon Heartstrings?", asked the clerk with a look of surprise.

"Seems not.", I reply.

"Please wait a moment.", the clerk said before leaving to a back room.

After a while, she comes back with a small box. She opens it and I see a small, grey core.

Woah, this core has a little bit of Death Law.

"This is a core made from Thestral Tail Hair and is strongly associated with death. Please hold it.", as the clerk handed me the core.

I don't even need to touch it. I felt the resonance from the box. I smile and hand it to her saying, "Yeah, this feels familiar."

"Then that should be it.", finishes the clerk, "The price of this 11 inch Yew wand with Thestral Tail Hair core without a tracer is 35 Galleons, 5 Galleons extra for the removal of the tracer. Please come again in 2 days with the money and pick up the wand."

"Okay, then I'll come again in two days. Let's go, mom."

As I left the store I had a huge grin on my face. But I didn't know that my mother and the clerk were having the same thoughts, "Why does that boy/my son have such a high affinity with death?"

As I left Knockturn Alley, I suddenly remembered.

Wait, why did they charge extra for the 'removal of the tracer'. I'm making the wand from scratch. There shouldn't be a tracer in the wand to begin with...

...Did I get duped?
