Chapter 4: A Year Later

Chapter 4: A Year Later

After my mother stopped crying, she frantically paced around wanting to go visit my father at St. Mungo's.

"Selene, you need to rest today. It's been a long night. Think of the baby for god's sake. You need to feed him, don't you?", said Sirius trying to stop my mother.

I agree, you need to rest, mother. Father isn't going anywhere and is safe for the moment.

As I try to say this to my mother, I babble and shake my head.

"See, even Sol is trying to stop you. Listen to him at least.", shows Sirius to make her rest.

Seeing my actions, my mother's expressions soften and she stops pacing. She gives a smile then gives up.

"Fine, I understand. I'll stop for now. But we're going to visit Tom tomorrow."

"Yes, yes. You do that."

"Let's go, Sol. Do you want to come inside, Sirius?"

"No, the Order has many problems, I can't stay."

"That's alright. Thank you.", says my mother full of gratitude.

Yes, thank you, Sirius. Without you, my father and I would've died and my mother would've been left alone.

I make Da sound with my mouth as if to thank him.

My mother lets out a chuckle and says, "See, even Sol is thanking you."

"No, it's nothing. Don't worry about it."

"Next time you come, stay for a bit."

"Sure thing," says Sirius as he begins to leave in front of our eyes.

But he stops for a while before turning back and asking my mother, "What kind of baby did you give birth to?"

"Excuse me?", asked my mother as she raised an eyebrow.

"No, I mean your baby seems a bit too intelligent for his age. Don't you think?"

My mother thought for a bit and said in a proud voice which was bragging, "Of course! He's my child after all.

Sirius has a blank look at his face first then exhales and says, " Forget it. Take care, Selene."

"You too, Sirius. Don't get into too much trouble."

"I won't." smiling, Sirius disapparates.

As we watch, Sirius leave, I think to myself.

This has been a long night.

Today is the 24th of May 1980. Sol's 1st birthday had already passed a few days ago. His mother invited a friend of hers. Her name Molly Weasley, she was a plump woman with a motherly face and ginger hair. Along with her, came two boys, twins. Named Fred and George, both of them had short ginger hair as well.

"Hmm~ there's something weird here.", thinks Sol to himself.

The boys were 1 year older than him. Both could speak coherently, at least compared to him. Even though Sol can now walk and speak, he still can't do them well. He always messes up making up long sentences.

Every time he messes up his words in front of his mother, he feels frustrated at his small, round, and chubby form.

After the night of the attack, last year, Selene gave Sirius' words some thought and found that it was true. Her son truly was smarter than average babies. He didn't make fusses or throw tantrums that much. He was obedient when fed and didn't cry all that much. He wouldn't even cry when his diaper was full! When he began walking and talking, she could even give him simple commands which he could do. Well, that realization came out accidentally, when one day she foolishly told her baby to hand her the newspaper. Just as she came to realize her blunder, Sol had already brought the newspaper!

How does he know what a newspaper looks like?

When she looked at him with surprise, he replied in an adorable voice, "Did I do something bad?"

She felt happy and sad at his achievements. She felt happy that her son was smarter than his peers but sad that her husband, Tom would miss out on many of his son's firsts. Tom had his consciousness fragmented under the extreme strain of the Cruciatus Curse that night. She doesn't remember how many times she cried at the thought of her husband never waking up. One night, as she laid Sol to bed in his room, she left after she thought that he was asleep, leaving the door to his room open a crack.

As she went to her living room, she saw the wedding photos of the two of them, and the memories of the happy times they had together flooded her mind. She cried on the floor, hugging her knees. She tried to hold back her sobs to not wake Sol up. She had her head tucked in her knees when she felt a small hand patting her head. She lifted her tear-stained face only to see her son with his hand on her head wearing a sad expression. She felt shocked and aggrieved.

"Does he understand my feelings? Has he understood all along? What am I doing? I'm breaking down while my son is consoling me. How ironic.", thought Selene to herself as she resolved herself, "No, this won't do. I can't let my son see me like this. I should be there for him. Not the other way around."

Selene hasn't cried since then and today as she was about to talk about how smart and cute her baby was to Molly, he signaled her that he wanted to say something to her. As both she and Molly looked at Sol, she felt proud and looked at Molly with a look that seemed to say see-how smart-my-baby is.

She then walked towards Sol and came close to him, only to hear him say in a quiet voice, "Don't brag, Mom."

She looked at Sol with surprise and then became red with embarrassment. At that moment, she felt both proud and embarrassed because her baby was smart enough to admonish her.

"Take Fred and George to your room. We'll be talking here in the living room. And don't forget to share your toys."

"Okay, mom. Come with me, you two.", said Sol as he began to lead the two Weasley boys to his room.

As the three boys left the living room, Molly spoke up, "I can see why you brag so much about him. But what did he say to make you so red?"

"He told me not to brag.", replied Selene in a quiet voice, becoming redder.

Molly looked at her wide-eyed, then laughed out loud.

"He's certainly smart enough, smart enough to warn you not to brag.", laughed Molly.

Sol later learned from his mother that Mrs. Weasley had six children named Bill, Charlie, Percy, and the twins Fred and George, and lastly Ron.

That day, Selene and Molly had talked about their lives, children, and Hogwart while the boys played with Sol's toys.

And no, Sol didn't forget to share. After playing for a while, Molly bade them goodbye and the twins told him to come to their house later.

Sol felt satisfied, having made two friends.

"Whew, acting like a baby is exhausting.", thought Sol as he watched them leave.

Elsewhere.

Albus Dumbledore was the principal of the prestigious Hogwarts, a school for young wizards and witches. One of the duties of the principal was to hire subject teachers to teach their students. And with this purpose in mind, Albus has entered Hog's Head Inn where he will interview Sybill Trelawney for the vacant post of Divination teacher.

Albus entered the inn. He sees that the ground floor of the inn is half-packed. He sees a waiter coming towards him.

"Hi! Would you like a meal or a place to stay?"

"I'm here to meet Ms. Trelawney, Sybill Trelawney."

"Ahh, right this way."

As the waiter leads Albus to her, a hooded man was sitting near the table where Ms. Trelawney was waiting.

He was a Death Eater, but Albus had no way to know that.

Albus finally sees Sybill Trelawney, she was a thin woman with frizzy brown hair. She was wrapped in a shawl, wearing bangles covered with shining sequins. On her eyes were a pair of thick circular glasses which made her eyes look magnified to the point of being cartoonish.

Albus was already a bit hesitant to interview her based on her appearance. But he was optimistic, after all, one shouldn't judge a book by its cover. He sits opposite her and introduces himself in a low voice.

"Ms. Trelawney, my name is Albus Dumbledore, the principal of Hogwarts. I assume you're here for the vacant post of Divination teacher."

"Yes!"

"So to begin, which types of divination are you proficient in?"

"I am proficient in Tessomancy and Crystal-gazing.", said she in a soft, somewhat misty voice.

"Okay....? Can you show me, please?"

"Sure thing."

Trelawney poured Dumbledore tea and asked him to finish, then view the bottom of the cup. Dumbledore does as asked and looks at his cup only to see a...

"What is this? Is that a bird? Are those strands supposed to be hair?", Dumbledore was puzzled as he thought but his expression was calm like a serene lake.

With age came the skill of not showing his emotions on his face, a skill Dumbledore had honed to perfection.

After looking for a bit trying to understand what it is, he handed the cup back to her.

As soon as she peered into the cup,

Gasp!

"You have Falcon in your cup! It means you'll face a deadly enemy in the future!", exclaimed Trelawney in shock.

"Umm... aren't I facing a deadly enemy now? I don't think there'll be a deadlier enemy than Voldemort.", thought Dumbledore in disbelief.

Dumbledore started to slowly leave, feeling like this was a huge waste of time.

"Ahh yes... right. Well, I should take my leave first and review you."

"Wait!", shouted Trelawney as she grabbed on his robes.

She began to act like she was having a seizure, like a drug-addict at a rave.

Then, she stopped jerking and said to Dumbledore as if giving a warning acting as if she was in a daze.

At the same time, the Death Eater nearby was eavesdropping on the whole exchange.

"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives..."

But before the Death Eater could listen fully to her prophecy which sounded like ramblings, he was thrown out of the inn by the innkeeper.

As he walked into the nearby alley, he muttered to himself.

"The Dark Lord needs to know about this."

If one should peer into the alley at this time, they'd find nothing as he had already disapparated from there.

Meanwhile, Dumbledore wore an expression of shock, thinking of the meaning of her words. But not before saying, "Ah, Ms. Trelawney. You've been hired. Please come to Hogwarts at your earliest convenience bringing the required things."

Trelawney had already awoken from her gaze after her prophecy. So she became ecstatic upon hearing she had been hired.

"Yes! Thank you for the opportunity."

But she didn't know that Dumbledore had only hired her to protect her as he had finally understood that the one who was thrown out was a Death Eater. After all, the innkeeper wouldn't just throw someone out without a reason.

Her prophecy would start a chain of events from that day onwards which would change the wizarding community of England for good.

But Sol Balor had no way of knowing these things.
