Emilia smiled at them.
"So. What can I help you with?"
Joseph was still dumbfounded about what happened.
"Oh right."
He collected himself.
"We are searching for some jobs to take on."
She she scanned them thoroughly.
"What kind of job can you two do?"
Catherine made a smal ball of fire in her hand.
"Things that requires destroying things, or just general magic."
Emilia chuckled.
"Those we have plenty."
She leaned down and picked put some paper on the counter.
"First I need you to fill out some papers. These are about stuff, like the Ugly Orc is not responsible for any injuries you get and you take responsibility for the jobs you do. But also while you are working for us, you have more authority, to go to places, that would be closed off. Also if you need to go to places that require special permission, we can get it for you, if there is a good reason you need it. Lastly, you are protected from minor criminal acts, like injuring some people by accident or damaging the city, while working. But there is a limit for it as well. The contract says the exact details."
They read the papers and it was basically just about what she said with more information and fine printing. They looked at it searching for magics on the paper and found some trace of a spell, but Catherine said to Joseph, that it is a simple contract magic. It makes people sure, that they hold up their part of the contract. If it's broken it will be reported to the guild and they can make countermeasures against the people who broke it.
They signed it and both of them got one-one wooden medalion with an ugly orc's face on it.

"This is the sign of the guild. There are several versions of it. Meaning that if you have more experiense and made jobs well, also you are not comiting any crimes or problems for us, you'll have better ones. The higher ranked ones give you advantages, like you have full access to any part of this city, or you don't have to pay bills for trading, or you get free food and drinks here."
Joseph smiled at her.
"This seems nice."
Catherine touched his back.
"You know we have other things to do as well. We can't stay to climb the ladder."
Joseph sighed.
"I know. But then again we still need some jobs."
"Yes. So let's take something."
Emilia pointed at a board on the wall filled with papers of different sizes.
"You can chose any jobs from there, but I would suggest for you to think before you take one. If you can't fulfill the job, you can give it up, but you have to pay a bill. Except if the job is different, then writen on the description, or it's a lot harder then it says. But I assume you already know this after reading the documents."
Joseph noded and Catherine just walked to the board and scanned it. She took off one of the papers and came back to them. Joseph was suprised.
"That was fast."
"I got one we would like to do!"
joseph looked at the paper.
Pest elimination request
The Phoenix family requires hunters to hunt down pests at the grain fields near Krishmar.
There has been large amount of giant rats sighted at the fields of the Phoenix family. They request full elimination of the rats and their nests.
Reward: 10 gold
Emilia looked at it and frowned.
"Are you sure about this one? It does not pay much for the difficulty it has. Also if you get bitten by these nasty things, you'll probably need some potions that cost more than the reward."
Catherine laughed.
"There won't be a problem! The rat's can't even get close to me. How would they bite me? This will be a really quick money for us."
Emilia still had an unpleasant face, but the put the paper away and took out a book.
"So..."
She looked at their contracts.
"...Catherine and Joseph. I'll record your request acception and take the file down from the board. Because it's your first job, if you find it too hard, then you won't be penalized if you give it back, but I would advise against it, because the Phoenix family would be unsatisfied with it."
Catherine shrugged.
"It will be fine."
Emilia wrote something in the book and then looked at them.
"Alright. I'll give you a map, which leads you to the farm the family has outside of the city. You'll get information about the job there. Please be safe."
They said their goodbyes and head out. Joseph looked at Catherine with a questioning look.
"Why this request?"
"Because noone would like to do it. Wouldn't it be noticeable by the family, if some beginners would just come and clear out some problematic things for them?"
"Possibly?"
"Definetly!"
They looked at the map. The farm was somewhat far from the city, so they looked for a carriage that would take them there and payed for the ride.
