Chapter 1713

"In my mind, Gordon's never been one to tell the truth. You say he doesn't lie to you, but didn't he pull one over on you today?"

"I don't buy what you're saying! My brother would never lie to me. Quit bad-mouthing him."

Sophie, who had been shaking in her boots earlier, was now full of confidence. She unbuckled her seatbelt, swung the car door open, and stepped out. Seeing Sophie actually leaving, Colby knitted his brows in concern.

Sophie wandered up ahead, not really heading anywhere in particular.

Colby followed her slowly in the car.

Finally, with a sigh of resignation, Colby rolled down the window and called out, "I was just talking nonsense. Come on, hop back in before you catch a cold." "Not until you apologize to my brother."

Colby rubbed his temples and sighed, "Alright, alright. I was wrong. I misunderstood Gordon. He's the kind of guy who never lies or tricks anyone. Better?" "That's more like it."

Sophie stopped and got back in the car.

Once inside, Colby checked his watch and asked, "Which ride do you want to hit up first?"

"I want to try them all."

"We're short on time."

"Then get them to keep the park open a bit longer. My brother does that for me all the time."

Back in the day, when Sophie wanted some fun and Gordon was caught up with work, he'd pull some strings with the park. He'd either rent the whole place out or hire extras to make it lively for her. Whatever ride caught her fancy, she'd get on without delay.

If it got late, Gordon would light up the park with dazzling neon lights just for her.

All the cheerful tunes would play just for her.

The whole park would be aglow, all night, just for her.

Whenever Sophie talked about Gordon, her eyes sparkled with admiration.

Colby caught a glimpse of Sophie in the rearview mirror but quickly turned his attention back to the road.noveldrama

Everyone in Devonport knew Gordon's tough-as-nails reputation in running the Aldridge family. He was all business, no mercy.

When it came to dealing with traitors, he didn't even bat an eye.

Even if blood splattered on his face, he'd wipe it away without a second thought.

Colby had never seen the gentle side of Gordon that Sophie often talked about. Sometimes, he thought they must be talking about two different Gordons. "We're here."

Colby parked outside the amusement park.

Sophie looked at the bustling crowd inside and suddenly didn't feel so excited anymore. "I'm not really up for it now."

Leaning against the car window, Sophie said, just wanted to hang out with my brother. He's always tied up with work and never gets a break just wanted him to have a bit of fun. If he won't come, the what's the point?"

After all, if she wanted to play, she could have the whole park to herself with just one call.

But if her brother couldn't be there, it seemed pointless.

Seeing the disappointment on Sophie's face, Colby looked away and said, "With a perfectly good companion right here, are you really gonna ditch me?"

"You?"

Sophie turned to look at Colby.

Colby held out his hand to her and said, "Ms. Sophie, would you do me the honor of being my guide and showing me around?"
