Chapter 87

Chapter 87 – The Vileguards Templars (2)

Suppressive fire allowed the Vileguards to set up an artillery node. This artillery node allowed heavy loads to be hammered down on the abomination. Indeed, the abomination was suppressed. Its blue dome, however, was impregnable. He, who saw the constant firing, was stunned. The ordinance was enough to level a small village and was enough to bring down a warlord’s wall.

“Good heavens,” said him, pointing his rifle at the abomination. The abomination was unharmed despite the constant bombardment. All those blasts didn’t mean anything at all. The abomination had this protected shield that absorbed all the shells.

To put it bluntly, the technology that this abomination had far surpasses even the Vileguards legion. These Templars had studied old relics and have slowly integrated them into society while keeping the dangerous weapons they had for their own in order to guard the Holy Midlands interest. This ‘abomination’ was a threat that they have detected through a rumor in Edawick.

They have only sent a scout and what they found was a combination of mutilated parts of the hunters who were stupid enough to hunt for something that could kill monsters beyond their level. These territories were known for the concentration of dire monsters and humanoid beasts. They should have expected the worst.

The Vileguards has always kept watch of the Isolist tribe who despite their peaceful nature, has been at war with the rat-kin tribe. A race of abominations that are no better than the Cagan natives. But these abominations were banished by the Werelion Clan for their disgusting nature. Even the Isolist tribe, the oblong heads, who had peaceful nature, could not stand the rat-kin for their disgusting nature. The Isolist tribe could never sleep well with such enemies lurking their territories.

The Vileguards has been vigilant in their vigil. Now, the threat of an abomination that harvested hundreds or more stands before them. Of course, he, who’s been watching through the scope, would not know anything about all of this. All he knows was that there was something going on. There was more to this event than the disappearance of the hunters from Edawick.

To him, it was very stupid. No, every hunter knew it was a stupid idea to hunt a thing that could destroy hardened veterans with ease. Halfway through, they only intended to study the enemy. But who would have thought that the enemy would target them? He hasn’t heard from them, and of course, he didn’t know that most of the hunters he had been waiting for were now part of the abomination he was observing through his rifle's scope.

The abomination was being suppressed. Its unnatural body made of different flesh twisted and formed. The abomination that was kneeling from all the bombardment suddenly released a searing laser that marked a circle around the abomination, obstructing the line of sight of the Vileguards that had been bombarding the abomination. But the Vileguards did not stop their artillery fire. They extended their area of attack and made the abomination stop still.

But, the abomination fired a searing laser to one of the Templar’s rust bucket for a ship and brought it down to the ground. One attack brought down their shi. It cut through the hull of their flying machine without resistance at all.

The flying machine exploded halfway down when it was falling. The Vileguards didn’t stop nor did they tremble in fear of the abomination. They were quick learners. They immediately understood that their ships could not handle the abominations superior weaponry. And a single mistake could destroy all their ships and they would all fall here.

But beyond this perimeter, a figure carrying a bloodied person struggled walking. This person was more of a beaten corpse than it was alive. He was breathing but barely alive. His bones were broken and it could be said that he was alive by the sheer stubbornness of not wanting to die. The two saw this abomination and they only felt despair. It was bad enough that they have to traverse that labyrinth. It was bad enough that after getting out, he had to fight a goblin bastard. Now, he was seeing this humongous abomination with a tiny metal head obstructing their way.

All hope seemed lost for the two. They sat down near a tree. But they didn’t know that four eyes glanced upon them. The first pair of eyes came from the hunter in the plateau. He could recognize Silo and he was barely able to identify Joshua who looked like he was beaten to death. In fact, he wanted to ask if he was even alive.

However, that didn’t matter to the hunter. They were alive! He joyed in his heart. He didn’t want to move out of fear. But seeing that the two of them were alive he immediately went for his Komodo dragon mount. He pulled the reins of the mount and rode it down the steep path that leads downwards to where the two was.

Silo was tired. When he woke up he found Joshua near a dead goblin with its torso cut open. He could tell that Joshua struggled to kill the goblin. He wished he could have done something but it was too late to regret it. They were out of that damned place. Yet what was this abomination in front of them? Did they struggle for nothing?

He was about to curse the heavens above for this plethora of misfortunes. But he saw a familiar beast from a distance. Seeing this scaly beast approach, Silo stood up and wave his hands at it with joy.

“Silo!” shouted the rider. “Are you two alive?”

“Bloody hell we are! Quick! We need to get Joshua out of this place! His bloody injured!”

“Damn it! We can’t escape with that abomination around. Let’ patch him up in the camp and see if those black-clad Templars can distract the abomination.”

“The Templars are here?” Silo raised a brow.

“Aye, they are suppressing that abomination with their floating machines. Is he still alive?” asked him, looking at Joshua.

“He is barely alive. Help me move him.”

“I can do that.”

He carefully grabbed Joshua and along with Silo, they put him at the back of the mount. Silo then sat near the rider’s seat and laid his back at the seat, his gazing at the colossus figure of the abomination.

Of course, he wasn’t the only one gazing at this figure. Her blue eyes blandly staring at the horrific figure that everyone seemed to fear.
