Chapter 74 – The Eye of Trouble (3)
Joshua walked to where the hunting party was. There, the armed hunters loaded their luggage into this mount that had the look of a Komodo dragon. There was a large carriage compartment on this mount. It was enough to carry the luggage and twenty armed to the teeth men.
Joshua approached near the mount. He saw that Silo was there. He was wearing a simple tunic with a cape and across his back was a rifle. Around his belt were pouches that Joshua assumed to be where his ammunitions are. Silo raised his head and caught sight of Joshua.
“You look like you coming with us,” He looked at Joshua’s appearance. “And you only have that rifle and pistol on you? What’s in the bag behind your back?”
Joshua lowered his sight to his waist. “Medicine, food, and ammunition – pretty much the things that we should have in this hunt, can’t be too careful and I think I am still lacking a lot.”
“What’s in the canteen?” Silo asked.
“I brought Lemon and milk.”
“What?”
“I said Lemon and Milk, what’s wrong them?”
Silo was confused. He was baffled at what the hell Joshua was bringing.
“What about water?”
“I have one.”
Silo wanted to say more. But Joshua looked like he wouldn’t give reasonable answers. So Silo just shrugged it off. He sat on the ground, his hands resting on his knees. Joshua wasn’t fond of standing around so he just sat there too. The two watched the men of the hunting party load the baggage. After they were done, they got told to stand up and listen to the leader of the hunt named Kars.
Kars looked at the men going with him. Particularly, he felt like it was not enough. But with how dangerous the thing they are hunting. He knows that they should have more people. But most of those who had seen the corpses of the dead could not muster the courage to hunt the things. Kars appreciated the people that came here. In the moment, the town was in danger. And brave men are needed at times like these.
“Thank you all for coming here,” said Kars. “Right now this town needs your help. There is an abomination lurking out there. We don’t know what is it or where it is. All we know that we should follow the trail of dead bodies that the abomination should have left for us. The rain must have wiped the blood, but the corpses should be there.”
Kars put his hands behind his back, walking from left to right.
“So I ask all of you to peel your eyes open. Make sure that you report any carcass you see. Men...” Kars face looked grim. “The creature we are hunting could tear through the hardest dire monster scale and fur. We don’t how it does that but that only proves that we must be careful. I know that many of you want revenge. But I implore you all to keep in mind the people that are going with you. Fortune favors the bold, but too much boldness might lead to our deaths. That’s all.”

Kars finished talking. He went to the others talked in a group. Silo heaved a sigh, he caressed his rifle. Joshua brought his hands together. He looked in front of him and saw someone familiar walking with worry on her face. Seeing this person, Joshua poked Silo’s sides. Silo reacted by giving Joshua a glare. He wanted to say something but he heard.
“Silo, tell me! What are you doing!?”
“Cyra?” he looked at her. “What do you mean by that?”
She stomped her right foot. “You know what I am talking about! I’ve heard that you and Joshua are going to hunt that thing! Please don’t go! You’ll be killed!”
Silo looked serious. “I can’t do what you ask. I need to find that thing. I need to take revenge for what it did to my old man!”
“What if you die? Do you really think it would be what your old man wants!? Please stop this nonsense of yours!”
Silo’s face turned beet in anger. “Nonsense you say? My old man due to that abomination and you say that me taking the matter with my own hand is ‘nonsense’!?!” he glared at her angrily. “How dare you! How can you know when you don’t know the feeling of seeing the father you respect gutted like some animal!”
Cyra stumbled back. She fumbles about on what to say but she gathered her courage and faced Silo’s angered face. There were tears running down her cheeks. “I don’t know about it! I just don’t want you to die, why can’t you see that, you dense idiot!”
“If you don’t know anything about it then shut up! You’ll never understand it!”
Their argument was getting heated. Joshua folded his arms and watched them, thinking if he should intervene. But like those around him. They decided to stay out. They know that this was a good yet at the same time bad thing for the two.
“Please listen to yourself! Why can’t you let the others do it, why do you need to risk your life!?”
“Because I need to see whatever that tortured my old man suffer! Like I said why do you care at all damn it! You always look me with pity! Always teasing me and putting me down! So why in the heavens would you care now!?”
Silo had this look of fury. Joshua felt like he really needed to calm the situation. But what happened next made every hunter in the team widen their eyes and grin.
A huge slap in the face followed by Cyra grabbing Silo’s head. Her lips intertwined with his. Silo looked shocked. He took a step back and wanted to say something but he got pulled yet again into another kiss. Joshua looked at the two while sighing. He said. “Finally, you dense fuck.”
“Do you get it now?”
“I...”
“Do you get it now?”
Silo took a deep breath.
“I think so. But I still cannot stay. I just can’t. I am sorry.”
Cyra looked at him with her face in anguish. She bit her lip. She then turned to Joshua who was silently standing there with his arms folded.
“Please take care of him.”
“That’s what I am here for.”
Cyra nodded her head. She looked back at Silo.
“Please stay alive.”
“I will.”
Then, they just ended their conversation. She walked away with tears on cheeks. Silo, who just learned something sat dazedly, trying to collect his thoughts.
