Chapter 139 – Messy Evening

The hall was lavishly decorated. There were curtains made of silk. There were round serving tables with food and wine. There are men and women carrying silver trays, serving the fine people dressed in formal clothing. There’s a big chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The dining tables have lamps and candle. There are people forming groups, making hubbub as they do. There was an organ playing a nice tune. The area smelled of perfume and wine. She was usually fond of parties such as these. But she found herself socializing with the red wine in her glass goblet.

Dolce sat on a corner where people would rather avoid her. Her table was blocked by Elesia and Henry. The two wore formal clothing and acted as her protection. The other nobles inside the party hall have their own bodyguards. But the two in front of Dolce was finely armed. They carried their rifles and were protected by a flak vest. They look intimidating and that alone was enough to keep the men from trying to get her attention.

She came to this party because she was invited. Of course, if she knew that most of the people in the party were pompous and as vain as her. She would rather scour the midland. The only thing that she rather liked about the party was the wine and food. The atmosphere of the room would have better if the people weren’t talking loudly. The organ playing across the room was making her mood a bit better.

There was a slight cold breeze coming inside through the balcony. The party was located up a tower with a rather beautiful view of the city. The tower was owned by a high-ranking official that works under the Officiator of the City. That same person was talking to the Head Judge of the City. Dolce believes that she was only invited because of her current status. She was in cahoots with the Princess of the Demesne of Maltius La Fende, and she was an Alva. And that alone was enough for the people around her to try and make connections.

She didn’t give them the chance though. If the look of boredom and malice wasn’t enough for them to take a hint, then Dolce was sure that the rifle carrying Elesia and Henry would persuade them. Thankfully, it worked and now she was able to sit back and relax. Of course, it would benefit her if she talks to the people around the party hall. They were influential and successful people that could make her status more prominent than her father. She was slowly working on the idea to stand up and put up a fake smile. She might as well get some information from the nobles around. So, she wipes her mouth with her handkerchief, she places her hand on the table and stood up. She took a step outside of her seat and poised her back straight. She was about to walk forward when she suddenly heard the sound of glass breaking.

Then what followed was the meaty sound of a head exploding. Dolce saw a man’s head explode. His eyeball came out of his eye sockets. The back of his brain spilled and the man kneeled lifelessly on the floor. Before everyone could react another shot came and hit the person standing near the man. Then, another bullet came to hit the bodyguard of the Head Judge. Dolce felt shivers on her back as she rolled back and drew her pistol and slid to cover. Her instincts prove right as many more nobles were hit by the sniper fire. Henry and Elesia smashed the table and use it as cover.

The door of the party hall swung open and a group of a strong looking man armed with repeating rifles open-fired on the hall. The bodyguards of the nobles open fire but they were caught by surprise. Dolce took a crack shot and managed to hit one. Henry stood up and open fired blindly, gunning down two of the burly man. He almost got his head blown up but he was pulled down by Elesia who suppressed them. Dolce took that chance to take the repeating rifle that bodyguard dropped. She loaded the weapon and cranked the lever. She hoisted it up and aimed. She shot one and sprinted to the Head Judge and the Officiator.

The two were cowering like dogs that were bathed in cold water. She kicked them in the ribs, shouting. “Get up you cowards! Take the rifles and open fire!”The two nodded their heads. They took the rifles dropped by their bodyguards and pressed their back on the table for cover. Elesia shouted, “Reloading milady!” as Henry then fired blindly at the group of me. He ran out of ammo but Elesia pulled him down and suppressed them again.

Dolce returned fire. She reached for the voice box she was given and called the pilot. “ETA, two-minutes, are you sure of your location milady?” Dolce lowered her head. “Yes, I am sure! Now come before I get killed!” there was static. “Roger, please hold your position.”

Dolce put her communicator back. She returned fire and felt bullets whiz past her head. She was cursing internally and returned fire hoping that the ship arrives soon. She could feel that the assailants were not stopping. It took a while but seeing the ship arrive made Dolce sigh in relief. She then ordered the judge and officiator to open fire. Henry and Elesia then ran to the balcony and suppressed the enemy.

With them covering for her, Dolce grabbed the officiator and head judge to the ship. The other nobles sprinted towards the ship but got gunned down instead. Dolce was able to step on the ramparts of her ship. She shouted at the crewmen inside and before long the ship’s thrusts rumbled. The rampart of the ship was about to close. But she saw one of the nobles being pulled by the assailants. There were still gunshots coming from one of the towers.

The party turned out bloody. The assailants were approaching so Dolce took a step inside and let the ramparts close. She breathes heavily as she looked at the few nobles who survived the massacre.
