Chapter 13: An army, a 'Hero' and a cat

[Alysha's Pov]

After having a nice lunch consisting of a lone hunter I found, I kept running. Quite a bit happened after defeating the snake. Apparently, the pervert had reported to the king that they found a giant monster in the forest, and now there's a bounty for it on the adventurer's guild and the king also unleashed hundreds of knights into the forest. So now not only do I have to bring with me an egg everywhere I run to, but I also gotta make sure I'm not seen. Oh, I also stripped the shirt of a knight that tried to molest me. At least I'm not in underwear anymore.

How do I know all of this? Of course, from a little chat with my lunch. He seemed very willing to tell me as I ate his friend in front of him.

I now can use the telepathy that the snake used, it simply comes natural to me. It's range is limited at 50 meters though. I also can secrete poison from my canines. My teeth and nails all got sharper too, as if before wasn't enough. I can now cut a stone in two as if it was butter.

I've been jumping around for two days without rest now, trying to find that goddamn house. Seriously, how well-hidden is it?

I find a squadron of knights during after a while more, and approach them from the front.

When I arrive, they all immediately took out their weapons, however when they saw me more in detail they lowered them. Some of them tensed up quite badly though.

"Hi guys, I'm kind of lost here and can't find my way back to the city. Could you gentlemen please tell me where to go?" I ask while smiling. The knights at the front simply tell me to wait a moment and go to the back of the column, where after a while a man in perhaps his 30's appears. He's muscular, but not so much to look exxagerated. He's probably at the lower A-rank tier.

"Hello young lady. My subordinates tell me that you're lost, may I ask what happened?" He says with a hard look. Eh, I guess I am kind of suspicious...

"Ah, yes. People call me 'Bloody Cat' for some reason. I'm an A-rank adventurer, and got lost after a quest. Can you please point to me the way to the city?" I say with puppy-eyed mode activated.

He blushes a bit. Hehe, cute. It makes me want to rip off your face and throw it into a river...

His gaze hardens after a while, and asks "Are you really the 'Bloody Cat'? You certainly match the information I received from the reports. I've heard that you killed the count's son and an adventurer. Is that true?" I tilt my head and put up a finger on my temples, then after faking contemplation for a bit I answer.

"Ah! Yes! That pervert tried groping me and ubducting me, so I simply taught him that sometimes people are mean, and the price for the lesson was his life. As for the other man, he touched my tails without permission so heartlessly, so I made sure he would forever remain heartless." I say, trying to make a funny pun. The captain obviously isn't impressed though. Too bad...

"That isn't quite what I heard from the reports, but I guess that such acts might have been commited by him. We will still need to investigate the matter more throughtly. Can I ask for you to follow us for now?" I simply shrug and nod.

He turns back and heads down the column of soldiers. I can see at least 30 of them. I wonder, would this have been enough to defeat that snake? It was strong enough to tear through my skin quite easily after all.

As I follow him, I can see the knights looking at me with disdain. Eh, I get it. I'm different from you, so that gives you the right to look at me like that? Idiots.

I ignore them, but when one of them tried to trip me I simply coiled one of my tails around his leg, lifted him up and smashed him into the ground, right onto the other men. The captain swiftly turned around with a questioning and alarmed look. The other knights drew their weapons and got ready to fight.

"Ok idiots. I'm being nice and following you. If you all want to die then please, come forward. If you don't then immediately put back your weapons." I say and get my tails ready on both my sides.

The knights were not quite sure what to do. The captain did though.

"All of you, stop immediately and put away your weapons. We're not picking a fight with her, so stop right now." They obey him and put their weapons away. Heh, lucky bastards...

We arrived at the back and then kept marching. After 30 or so minutes of silent marching, we arrived at a small camp. I could see hundreds of knights lazing around, training, eating and I think I heard some moans from the tents.

When we arrived, we got quite a few looks, and I certainly saw a few people licking their lips when they saw me. What's up with all of these perverts? Aren't knights supposed to protect the innocent? Ah, right. That's just child's fantasy. Knights are just the more powerful version of bandits, they are supported by the state and they raid nearby places or extort villages under the pretext of protection... I seriously want to kill them all, but I'll hold back for now.

We arrive at one of the more luxurious tents, and as we enter I hear the guards calling out "Liutenant Mark Ripplenstain has arrived." Oh? They even unleashed the military? Was the snake considered this big of an enemy?

Me and the liutenant walk inside the huge tent and I see quite a spectacle. There were several men and a couple women surrounding a large table discussing, each with at least 2 attendants behind of them.

As we arrive, they all look at us. Or more like, everyone looks at me. I tilt my head and smile while waving a hand at them. I swear I even saw some of the women blushing. The power of cuteness is simply overwhelming.

The man at the end of the table sits up and greets us "Welcome, Liutenant Mark Ripplenstain. We're currently discussing the problem. I don't think you've been informed, but we found some bloodstains and a couple of broken scales that match the colors of the monster we were called to kill. Do you know what this means?"

The liutenant looks a bit taken aback, but still goes and sits at an empty chair. I look around trying to figure out what to do, and end up sitting in a corner combing my tails. What? It's fun! Who cares if it's an official meeting!

"No general sir! I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that." The liutenant says with short bow. The general simply nods and explains "Well, It means that not only is the snake dead, but nobody reported having killed it, and the corpse can't be found anywhere. This means that something really big must have killed and eaten it. This brings us to the next problem, trying to figure out who and what killed it. There are reports of signs of a huge battle accouring where the scales appeared. Several tens of trees were destroyed and the ground was cracked in various locations. This leads us to think that the monster who killed it might have either been a new king of the forest or the old king came back. Both news are extremely bad, and we have to figure out what happend to assure the safety and control of the forest. The king has already ordered for an investigation to take place with the 'Hero' being the commander of the operation. We honestly can't really rely on him as he's strong but thick-headed and knows next to nothing of military tactics. So, What have you found during your search? Any signs of something of a hint?"

The liutenant thiks for a bit, then points at me, who's sitting in a corner grooming my tails, and says "We found this demon in the forest. She's apparently the famous 'Bloody Cat' that appeared some time ago. She says that she completed a quest but got lost. She might know something, but I wouldn't bet on it."

I look up at them and tilt my head to the side and say "Eh, I might know something. However, information has a price." I say with a wink at all of them. One of them stands up and shouts "Look, demon, it's enough that you're not being beheaded right now, and you dare to ask for something in return? Are you crazy?!"

Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation.

The general gets up too and shouts "Second liutenant! This girl has done nothing wrong and she is right that information is valuable. Your accusations are bordering the line of being illegal due to the fourty third law that prohibits discrimination. Sit down now." The liutenant pales a bit and quickly sat down while grumbling.

The general then turns to me and says "Girl, despite being one of the most popular big shots of these days, nobody actually knows your name, can you please tell me?" I shake my head. My name's my own name. They don't deserve to know it. Maybe if they were as strong as the 'Hero' then they might be worth it. Barely.

The general raises an eyebrow but ignores it. He then asks "Well, what do you want for the information?" I contemplate a bit, then say "I get to become S-rank? I heard only the king can let you do that. Oh, and maybe I can join the magic academy." He nods and says "That's doable. With your power level, it shouldn't be too hard to do, and as for the academy, we can give you a reccomendation, but you'll have to pay for the tuition. Well, what do you know? What happened to the snake?"

I think a bit about what to say. Do I tell them that I killed it? Eh, shure, but let's modify it a bit."

"The snake was killed by a tiger-like animal. It had two tails like me. I was there during the fight and saw how the tiger ended up killing the snake, but was quite hurt. Since I had no reason to kill it, I simply let it leave and picked up this thing."

I take out the egg from my bag near my waist. I learned that you can actually put things in it even if they don't fit by simply willing it to enter. Quite convinient.

The general looks at the egg with discerning eyes and says "That's the same egg from the report the 'Hero' sent. Did you truly witness the fight?" I nod my head at that. I'm not even lying, I was there during the whole fight after all. In the fight though, not on the sidelines.

One of the people at the sides stands up and says "Ms, why did you let the tiger live? It can now become a potential enemy." I look at him like he's an idiot and say "Because why should I? It was weaker then the snake, but the snake itself was already badly wounded by the heroes. It won't pose a problem for quite a while, and even then, it was a magnificent animal and deserved his win." I say and he looks quite shocked. I guess people don't consider monsters as beings with living rights...

I stand up and head towards the door while saying "I'll see you later for out little agreement my good general~" and leave. The guards hurriedly got out of my way. I guess having the reputation of killing an A-ranker in less then 10 seconds is quite something huh...

[General Roger's Pov]

The council was in a session, discussing the current problem. We were assigned to this mission of killing an ancient snake, known for terrorizing villages. The problem was that not only did such a beast appear, but it also got killed by something, definitly not human. Our job is to determine what in the world it could have been. It's true that the beast was wounded, but there are no reports on any monster capable of even just injuring it.

That was when the first liutenant Mark Ripplenstain arrived. The guards greeted him and I did too. Only then did I notice the wierd demon girl that was following him. She was beutiful beyond belief, but that was not the strange thing. She had two tails and a pair of cat ears on her head. She also had extremely sharp-looking nails and was only wearing a shirt with no pants. The shirt was big enough to cover her though, so I guess it's fine.

As I explained what the problem was to the first liutenant I she simply sat down near a corner and began combing her tails. Doesn't she understand we're in an official meeting...

The liutenant then says that he doesn't really know anything, and points at the girl, saying that she apparently might know something.

So she's the 'Bloody Cat' that everyone is talking about? I can see why they call her cat, but why bloody? She seems like your tipical angel, if it wasn't for those ruby red eyes. Those are somewhat creepy, but strangely suit her with her silver hair.

She then asks for something in return in exchange for information, which I was about to agree with, when the second liutenant starts a ruckus. I stop him and agree with her. She asks to go into a magic school and to become S-rank. I agree, after all, giving a raccomendation is quite easy for someone of our rank and if the rumors that she killed an A-rank in less then 10 seconds are true, then she definetly qualifies for at least a test.

She says a tiger-like animal with two tails attacked the snake. I suspected this after all. The old king is back. I wonder where he went after all. This is good news, the old king used to be quite peaceful for a beast.

What she said next though, shocked me. She said that she could have killed it but let it leave, and that it was actually weaker then the snake itself but still won due to the snake's injuries. This means it wasn't the king, as the king was definetly stronger then that snake.

She also showed us the egg the snake apparently guarded, and it matched the description, proving that she was there during the fight.

She then left while saying "I'll see you later for out little agreement my good general~" This girl is really quite brave. She doesn't care a bit that I'm a general... Luckily for her, I'm not really into the whole 'honor' thing and I don't despise other races of commoners. If it was another general she might have been in trouble though.

I turn to the first liutenant and ask "Just where and how did you meet her?", he sighs and says "Well, from what I heard, she suddently jumped off of a tree without any of us knowing she was there and approached us asking for the way to the city. I got her to come with us. Some of the soldiers tried something on her, but she apparently caught him with her tail and smashed him into the ground. The guy was almost dead when the soldiers tried to heal him. Then she simply followed us silently until here. You know the rest, general." He says and sighs again at the end, I wonder what's up with him?

"I tried asking her about the incident with the count. Did you hear about it?" I shake my head at that. I heard the count lost his son, but nothing more. Was she there when it happend?

"Apparently, the count's son tried groping her and abducting her, so she killed him. That's all she said, but she did prove that she killed him." Wait, what? Really? That's actually quite good. I never liked the count nor his son anyway. They were two perverts and took pleasure in bullying commoners. Truly a family of idiots.

We spent the rest of the day figuring out what to do. At the end, we decided to simply ignore it all and go home. If the beast was wounded and still hasn't been found, it probably won't be found now that it had time to escape.

I exit the tent along with my direct subordinates and go searching for the 'Bloody Cat'. I find her eating some meat at the camp's buffet. She's a glutton, isn't she?

I approach her and her tails perk up for a second before she turns at me. She smiles and says "Oh, Hello there general! Don't worry, I paid for this already." She says as she throws a piece of meat inside of her mouth.

"You shouldn't have. The information you gave us was extremely valuable. You two can go now." I say and shoo away my subordinates. They bow and leave.

"So, I suppose you want a raccomendation and a certificate for S-rank?" She nods and says "Ah, if you could also get the soldiers over there to stop trying to bully me that'd be nice for them. I don't know if I can hold back on killing them next time they shove me away." She says and points at a group of soldiers. I guess I'll warn them, she doesn't really seem to care either way, but I can tell she just wants me to stop the soldiers from bothering her. I can try to do that, but it probably won't work considered the hatred they have on demons.

I give her the raccomendation I signed and the certificate that the king signed and gave me for occasions like these. We're told to only give them away to trustworthy people, and while I'm not sure if she's exactly trustworthy, the information was worth it and I always stick to my words.

She took the papers and put them away in her spatial bag. I wonder, that thing looks like it costs 50 gold coins at the least. She's probably quite rich considering she casually has one on herself.

"Do you mind joining us for dinner tonight? I suppose you'll depart tomorrow, so why not spend the night here?" I say and she looks at me blankly before giggling and saying "You realize I'm only 14 years old right~, What will your wife say when she hears this?" Oh please, I roll my eyes at her teasing and she laughs and says "Heh, I expected generals to be... more... prideful? Sure, I'll join." She says and I motion for her to follow me. I guess she's right. Other generals are often way too prideful to the point of being a fault.

When we arrive, I spot my subordinates surrounding someone and asking him question. I look a bit more closely and find that said man is actually the famous 'Hero' based on the description. Short black hair, Not very muscular and a wierd face. I go to talk to him and try to get to know him. I only heard of him from the reports, but they always mention that he's quite stupid.

"Oh god damnit. Why's the pervert here of all places?" I hear from behind me and see a quite angry-looking cat staring daggers at the hero. Did she call him pervert? Does she know him?

"Oh, Alysha, hello! Why did you suddently run away last time!" The hero shouts as he sees us. So her name is Alysha? That's quite the cute name, and she really does know him...

"General please do something, I don't want to talk with that pervert!" She wispers to me in a desperate voice and I simply nod. I say "Hello 'Hero'. I'm the general of this platoon, General Roger. Before we talk, why don't we go drink something?" I say but he's clearly ignoring me and staring at the girl, who looks like she's conflicted about either running away or staying. I can see why she calls him pervert, he's clearly staring at her breasts. Really? The 'Hero' himself is a pedophile? I have way too many men into little girls already, and if it's revealed the 'Hero' himself is one that's gonna be quite bad...
