93 - Bookworm

[A-class Bookworm Librarian]

[Description]

* This worm can encode and copy any piece of literature that the user gives it. If the language and contents of the book can be understood by the user himself, then the Bookworm Librarian will automatically upload the knowledge to the user’s mind within a second. If the book is in a different language or encoded in secrets, then the bookworm will have to first decipher the contents of the book before uploading it to the user’s mind. This costs energy

[Level: 0/70]

In the Virtual World, Achram and the other minions suddenly saw two new structures pop out of nowhere. One was a small wooden barn that the Slime recognized as a Chicken Coop. It was unfortunate that they didn’t have any chickens for now, but his Master still had many chances to summon animals later on.

Right next to the lighthouse, another building popped out of nowhere, surprising Flamie who was trying to look at the Magical Rabbit’s carrots.

This time, it was a giant red structure that had a very similar shape to a fruit that Achram only saw from visiting merchants in the village. It even had two giant leaves on top of the stem! This structure was very large, almost twice the size of the Treant which was at the height of an oak tree.

“Master has finally summoned the other consumables he obtained!” The Diplomatic Slime was the only one who knew what was happening. “The Library of Magnolia takes the shape of whatever its librarian desires. The Bookworm has chosen an apple of all things! How quaint!”

Suddenly, a giant pink worm burrowed outside of the apple and showed itself to the slime. It didn’t have any eyes on its face, just a simple toothed mouth that it used to bore through the apple library.

“Sir Slime, is that an earthworm?” Achram was very familiar with them as it served as excellent bait for when they fished in the rivers away from the village. And if worse came to worst, then worms served as an excellent food source.

The Slime nodded. “Yes, that is our new resident librarian! He is in charge of the knowledge that the Master passes down to us!”

“God’s knowledge…” It took a while for Achram to realize the gravity of those words.

The bookworm then went back inside the apple and appeared on the very bottom, creating a large opening, but making sure to keep the apple’s skin intact that acted sort of like a curtain door inside the very structure itself.

Even though the bookworm didn’t have any eyes, Achram felt as if the worm was looking at him. Then, the bookworm backed out and entered the Apple library.

“Ah, the bookworm has requested your presence in the library.”

“Me?” asked Achram. “What does the bookworm want with a lowly creature like me?” The bookworm must have a close connection with God for it to receive His knowledge. He didn’t feel like he deserved to enter the holy premises of the library.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“Don’t worry. I’ll join you. It’s not like you can understand each other,” the slime reassured Achram as it jumped on top of his head. “Now go! I want to visit the library too!”

Achram cautiously walked into the entrance of the Apple library. The red skin curtain felt strong and flexible despite being so thin. When he walked into the library, he was expecting a wet and mushy interior like that of an actual apple, but he was surprised to see that everything was dry and well-lit as if it was an ordinary building.

The whole building was like an apple, except everything was hollowed out. Then, the whole structure was reinforced with shelves upon shelves that must have contained thousands of books. The whole apple library up to the very stem at the top was housing fresh new books that gave the whole building a very distinct smell of paper and glue.

“You work fast, bookworm.” Slime was very impressed with the bookworm’s handiwork. As expected of an A-class minion.

In the very middle of the library was the stem made out of a hard pith that housed four seeds that faced in all directions. The bookworm bore itself out of one of those seeds and spiraled out of the stem, inching itself towards Achram and the Slime. Now that they were face to face, Achram noticed that the bookworm was as thick as his face, but its body must have been as long as two of him!

“What do you need from our very first citizen?” asked the Slime.

The bookworm opened its mouth wide, showing its tiny little teeth, and regurgitated two blue scrolls from its body. Despite being inside its stomach, the blue scrolls were in perfect condition and weren't drenched in stomach fluid.

The three blue scrolls landed in front of Achram’s feet and unfurled by itself. The blue scrolls used white ink to depict two different objects. One of them was a full-body chainmail armor made out of iron rings. The other was a very intricate spear that had designs that couldn’t be manufactured by even the best blacksmiths in his village, and the last one was a simple instruction manual with images depicting the steps.

Surprisingly, these scrolls were written in the Native Thall language so Achram was able to read these with perfect accuracy.

[Consumable D-class Chainmail blueprint]

[Consumable B-class Spear of Faith blueprint]

[Consumable C-class Fertilizer Blueprint]

These were the three blueprints that Patty acquired from his previous summoning. He didn’t know how to use it then, but with the advent of the bookworm, he found the perfect minion to unload them.

When he looked at the item called Fertilizer. He didn’t understand that this could be used to grow your food. Back in their village, this thing called ‘farming’ was far too complicated and defied the will of the gods, so it was forbidden to grow any crops at all. But if this fertilizer proved correct, then famine and hunger could be solved in their village!

The other two blueprints showed the dimensions of the items in precise measurements down to the millimeter. There were arrows pointed at different parts of the items and described the materials needed to construct those parts and how to assemble them properly.

Achram was overwhelmed. He was a little bit knowledgeable about blacksmithing, and he immediately knew that constructing the chainmail required experienced hands. It wasn’t something an amateur like him could do. And he especially didn't know how to build the spear. He didn’t even know some of the materials; what was 40-fold Damascus Steel?

The slime then looked at Achram expectantly.

“The bookworm asks if you can construct these two items?” The Slime interpreted.

Achram immediately shook his head. “Chainmail is hard, but not impossible. The spear…not even the best blacksmith from my village can interpret this, much less create it.”

The Slime opened its mouth and it morphed to the same shape as that of the bookworm’s mouth. It even imitated the small teeth around its lips to translate what Achram said to the bookworm.

The bookworm, in response, wormed itself back into its lair in the seeds of the apple library’s core.

“It can’t be helped.” The Slime said. “We’ll have to entrust this job to the Automaton Builder.”

Achram knew that Slime was talking about the metal box creature that was always playing with Flamie and Slime. “If Boxy could build it, then why did the worm ask me if I could build it?”

“The Automaton Builder, or Boxy, can build any object, but it cannot create it. The result will just be an object and it will always remain an object, soulless. It’s always better for a living creature like yourself to create these items so that it will have the possibility of evolving into something better,” Slime explained.

Achram looked confused, but Slime wasn’t surprised by that. Only creatures like that knew the truth of the world could understand the importance of souls in this world, especially in this Virtual World.

“Don’t worry about that,” Slime consoled him. “You also have a job you need to do.”

Achram’s face turned into that of determination. “I will fulfill anything that my God has given to me. I must pay him back for saving my life and giving me a new one in this paradise.” He bumped his chest and the hairs on his arms and face stood on end as he showed his resolve.

Achram wanted to please his God and swear his allegiance to Him for as long as he lived. He was with his own very eyes the miracle and powers of the God of Icy Rock. He could summon anything he wanted in just a flick of a finger! Achram knew that his life would be changed for the better as long as he was in the grace of the Master God.

“The Spear of Faith is still out of our reach for now, but the Chainmail is something that we can build right now. The only problem we have is the resources.” Slime bent its body to look at Achram’s face upside down from the top of his head. “You know how to mine, right?”
