Patty had a big misunderstanding. When the guy told him earlier that he was being recruited by a big company, he thought that it would be from Atlas Inc. After all, they were the only company who even showed any interest in employing him. They even offered for him to be taught by a master and give all sorts of benefits as long as he became the personal student in their company.
Of course he would think that they were the company. It didn’t even cross his mind that there would be other companies. It never even crossed his mind that the Sunverk Company, of all groups, would be the one to recruit him. They were famous for their strict physical requirements, having their applicants go through an endurance test that would rival even that of army training. Even if Patty tried to apply to them, they would quickly throw it in the trash once they saw his abysmal Physical Education grades. They were nonexistent.
Patty being recruited by the Sunverk Company was so impossible that the only reason it could exist as reality was if there was something strange afoot. It was especially evident given that Griff Sunverk was the main inheritor of the company. Recruiting whoever he wanted seemed like a very easy ask for someone of his stature.
The question now came. Why did he receive an invitation from the Sunverk Company? Or more importantly, what was Griff trying to do?
If Griff was just trying to mess with Patty, there would have been plenty of nastier things he could have done. He could have just put toilet paper all over Patty’s house, he could have spread a rumor about him and destroyed his reputation, or he could have just given him a present that would explode when he opened it. But instead, he tried to recruit Patty in his company? That was the exact opposite of messing with someone; that was helping their future.
So clearly, there was another motive for doing this. Patty then remembered about the bet. If somehow Griff heard about it, then it wouldn’t be an exaggeration for him to sabotage it. After all, it wasn’t a secret that he hated both Grammo and Patty. And if an opportunity came, if he could take out both of them at the same time, then he would definitely do everything he could to make sure that they were both gone.
If he was doing this because of the bet, then the reason why he forced Patty to be preoccupied with all this bureaucratic tape must be because there was something he wanted to do without Patty knowing about it. He finally realized what happened; Grammo was in trouble.
Patty quickly opened up the door and rolled out of the room filled with paper and headed straight for the door. But the guy earlier blocked him. If Patty wasn't on the rolling chair, it would be very easy to just step aside and ignore the guy, but he needed that rolling chair. He was worried for Grammo, but he wasn’t going to be running with his legs like a health freak!
“The jig is up! I know that Griff planned all this out!”
It was then that the guy broke down in tears, which caught Patty off-guard. He knew that he shouted a little bit too loud, but it shouldn’t have affected this guy that much. He even thought that he would have to fight tooth and nail against him because he thought that the guy was just as bad as Griff and his lackeys.
“Okay, okay! I’m sorry, alright? I can’t take it anymore, you’re right! I just needed some money man and that 20% pure Kore will go a long way with my DJ career. He said all I needed to do was make sure that you stay in the Counselor’s office!”
It turned out that this guy wasn’t a bad guy at all, he was just some desperate kid who was tempted with Griff’s offer. If it wasn’t clear before, then it was clear now that Money truly was a powerful tool. If it can be used to bribe top officials in the government who were already rich, then it would, for sure, tempt desperate and poor folks.

“It’s fine, dude. Just let me out of here.”
The guy wiped the tears off his face and sniffed his snot, but he still shook his head and refused. “I’m sorry, but even if Griff planned all this out, the papers are still official. The internship offer with the Sunverk Company is real, which means that I wasn’t lying when I said that ignoring it would get you in trouble with the Principal.”
“What?!”
“Yes. If you want to go, then just remember that the Principal would give you a harsh punishment for sullying the school’s good relationship with the Sunverk Company.”
[Double Mission]
[Requirement]
* Go to the Counselor's office
* Write a rejection letter to the company
[Reward]
* 500 Credits
The system showed the mission to him again. Clearly, the threat of the principal was working on the system. Why was it such a goody-two-shoes? Patty was in a conundrum; should he still write the rejection letter or not?
If he continued to write the rejection letter, which would take hours upon hours just organizing all the papers on the ground, then Griff would have free reign to send Grammo to the hospital and keep him there for the entire week. If he didn’t show on the deadline of their bet, then it was an automatic forfeit and therefore Patty and Grammo would have to be expelled.
But then if he ignored the rejection letter and saved Grammo, then he would fail the mission from the system. He wouldn’t have enough Credits to buy the Voice Box Teqx, leading them to fail the bet and get expelled anyway.
“You know, if Grammo is killed because I got stuck here, then I will definitely get expelled. Do you want that?” Patty, in his anger, directly confronted the system. He knew that the system didn’t want him to get expelled, so he used that to his advantage.
“I don’t want anyone to get expelled,” the guy replied. He thought Patty was talking to him.
CREAKKK
The door opened and Patty was relieved when he saw a familiar face. He didn’t know looking at Sam’s nerdy face would bring him so much relief, but it did. Sam fulfilled his best friend role by appearing in just the right moment when Patty needed him the most. He must now be called Super Sam for his impeccable timing!
“Yes, Sam! I really need your help.”
“Uh…” Sam saw the chaos of Patty strolling on a rolling chair with a guy who looked like he was crying just a second ago. “Did I come at the wrong time?”
“No. You came just in time! Can you help me write a rejection letter from the Sunverk Company?”
“You got an internship invitation with the Sunverk Company? Why are you rejecting it? You know what, don’t answer. I can’t deal with this now because I’m running late to my meeting with Professor Wraithborne.”
Sam tried to ignore Patty, but he suddenly pushed his legs off a wall and suddenly rocketed his rolling chair to block Sam from running away.
“Neat trick.”
“Thanks, but that’s not important. I need your help.”
As much as Sam wanted to help his helpless best friend, his hands were tied. If it was any other time, then he would have helped Patty without even a second of hesitation. However, Patty caught him at a bad time.
“I have an interview with the professor in literally two minutes. This will decide whether I get recruited into a top internship program that everyone in my class is trying to get. This will decide whether I get my dream Teqx or not. A B-class Law-related Fame Teqx is on the line here! Is that more important than this?”
Sam thought that was the end of it. He thought Patty would understand why he couldn’t help him at this time. However, he didn’t know that Patty was extremely desperate. He was so desperate that he uttered the two words that Sam didn’t think Patty would ever use.
“Smoked Pineapples,” Patty pleaded to Sam.
As soon as he heard that, Sam immediately nodded his head. “What do you want me to do?”
It was such a quick turn around that the guy who was listening to their conversation was quickly confused. Why did Patty say ‘Smoked Pineapples’? And why did Sam suddenly get convinced that he should drop his very important, life-changing interview with the professor?
“Help me write a rejection letter,” Patty repeated.
“Done.” Sam replied.
And before Sam walked towards the paper room, Patty patted his shoulders. “Thanks. I really have to stop Griff before he does something that can’t be changed.”
Sam remembered what he saw earlier in the window. “Griff’s on the outskirts of the Main Building. You can see where it is from the second-level window.”
Patty nodded and thanked Sam again for always being there for him.
