57 - Fatal injuries

Bzzzzttttt

Patty felt the buzzing from the Muscava minion vibrate just beside his ears. It showed its golden eyes that reflected Griff showing up behind him. This time, he was caught off guard by Griff, but he still wasn’t in real trouble. Just like before, he could just use the slow time ability to dodge Griff’s attack. His legs were really fast and powerful, but Patty was sure that it wouldn’t be too fast for his ability.

So, just like always, Patty would only act at the very last second. He was being lazy, even in this very serious situation, because that’s just who he was.

But then, the mood changed quickly. The gravity behind him seemed to have gotten more intense as it was sucking him in, like a black hole awaiting its new prey. But his human instincts were telling him that this was something that could challenge his very life. It was something that would obliterate his very soul if he was caught up in it.

The Muscava Cyclo activated the slow time ability without him even needing it. It then flew directly to his face and used its golden eyes and reflected the glowing club that was so powerful it was emitting electrical sparks all over its body.

It was a Fiendish Armament! And it was exactly this one that Professor Ortez showed them the other day, so he knew just how powerful it was. How could he have taken it? Not only that, how was he able to wield it without being disintegrated to his very atoms?

This was one of those times when even if the minion didn’t warn him, he would have known that he was facing death right in the eye. He felt the dangerous air behind him become more and more chaotic like an ancient dragon was breathing down his neck. Feeling all of this unfold with time slowed down was a very frustrating experience because even if his mind knew that he should move, it still took a lot of time for his body to respond to his reactions.

Even when he tried to move his body as fast as he could, he could already tell that it would already be too late. In each of those times where he had to use this ability, he was always able to completely come away unscathed from everything. However, this was not one of those times; he wouldn’t be able to fully avoid this one. By his own calculations, at his best speed of dodging, he would still be hit by the very edge of the Fiendish Armament.

And during this very critical time where he was between life and death, what did Patty do? He decided to blackmail the system into saving him.

The Tendora minion gave him Yi Power that made his body multiple times stronger than that of a normal human. The Muscava minion essentially gave him super speed. These were powers that were equal to a Teqx that others would die for. But somehow, the system was able to give him all these powers like it was nothing. All he had to do was push a button, and he would get these Teqx powers instantly.

It could be concluded then that the system had access to these kinds of powers and many more.

The system also showed that it could give and take out rewards from a mission as much as it wanted. It could issue a very easy mission like drink water and then it could give out a million Yi Power if it wanted. Or it could give out a very hard mission and barely give any mission at all. This proved that the system was solely responsible for what and how much reward was given in a mission.

He figured this out because even the same missions like ‘go to school’ had different rewards. It only depended on whether the system wanted Patty to do the mission or not. If it really wanted Patty to do something, it would issue a mission and give a reward that he really wanted at the time.

Back then, he was in dire need of Minion Growth Crystals. Then, as if the system read his mind, it would give out missions that gave out Minion Growth Crystals. It would be usually missions that Patty didn’t want to do, but the system tempted him to do it by giving him those crystals as rewards.

Then, he also wanted more and more summon scrolls. Once again, the system gave him a mission that rewarded summon scrolls. For some reason, the system really wanted him to save Grammo and not let him be expelled, so it gave him that mission and incentivized it with a summon scroll.

If all of that was true, then it could only mean that if the system wanted to, it could give Patty anything he wanted. The only reason why it didn’t give him what he wanted was because it also wanted Patty to do things for it. For example, going to school and continuing to study. Patty just wanted to stay at home and never attend school anymore because, what would be the point of it if he could just improve his strength in the comfort of his own home?

‘System, what would happen if I die?’ Patty asked inwardly.

[Mission]

[Requirement]

* Don’t die

[Reward]

* 10 Yi Power

Just like what he expected, the system answered him with a mission. This proved that it could, in fact, read his mind. And just to prove its point, it decided to give him a very stingy reward for such a very important mission.

‘Well, I appreciate you caring about my well-being. But how can I survive in this situation? The Fiendish Armament is heading straight for me at this very moment.’

[Mission]

[Requirement]

* Don’t die so that you can continue to attend school

[Reward]

* 10 Yi Power

Patty couldn’t believe that the system’s true colors were showing at this very critical situation. It turned out that it didn't care about Patty’s health at all; it just wanted Patty to be healthy enough to attend school. It didn’t matter if all of his bones were broken as long as Patty was in school and listening to the professor’s lectures.

But despite his casual conversation with the system using his mind, Patty’s body was going through a very stressful situation. The nerves on his muscles were working as hard as possible to try and move Patty’s body out of harm’s way. No matter how tough and indestructible Patty’s body was, it wasn’t accustomed to moving at such fast speeds.

At this rate, Patty would be able to mitigate the damage from the Fiendish Armament by letting it just graze past his back. Because of the Fiendish Armament’s effect on reality, this scratch would still create tremendous damage to Patty. But thanks to his enhanced body, he would be able to avoid fatal damage.

‘System, give me a really good superpower,’ Patty demanded. He knew that in order to fight against Griff and avenge Grammo, he would need powers so much stronger than he had right now. He believed that the system could give him this power, it just didn’t want to.

If the system refused to give him this power, then Patty would just have to give a reason.

‘Give it to me, or else I will let myself be hit and die from this Fiendish Armament’

But the system still remained silent. It didn’t seem to believe that Patty would let himself be hit by this dangerous weapon. Each human had their own instinct that gave them a primal fear of dying. Just like how a person will not be able to kill himself by holding his breath, Patty would chicken out at the last second and move out of the way. This was just how humans worked.

And even if Patty somehow didn’t move out of the way, the system was sure that Patty wouldn’t die from it.

The system flashed Patty’s own stats to him, showing that he was much stronger than he thought he was. That number 40 on each of his body parts was not just there for show, it was an indication of how impervious he was to damage. It showed to Patty that no matter how much he tried, he wouldn’t be able to force the system to give him a power that he didn’t work for.

But the system also underestimated Patty’s resolve to get rewards and powers that he didn’t deserve or work for. His desire for getting much more powerful without working for it overpowered his human instinct to preserve his life. Patty stopped moving away from the Fiendish Armament and let it hit his body.

BOOGGSSHH

Patty’s body rocketed towards the wall and passed through the other side. His body ragdolled through several different trees until he landed on a large boulder. His body was bloodied and bruised, with his skin filled with cement dust from the wall and mixed with dirt. His spine was broken into two, leaving his body paralyzed from the top of his head to his toes.

His life was hanging by a thread.

‘See, look what happened. I died,’ Patty thought as he felt urge to let himself go to the sleeping call of death. In just a few seconds, he would die.

But unfortunately for him, the system would not let that happen.
