Far above the surface of Fanswald floated a glass cage. Its outer surface was covered by layers of one-way reflective mirrors, giving the floating station an almost invisible outer shell. Within sat hundreds of computer stations. On each sat a dedicated person slaving away, pressing buttons, in fear that a certain boss was about to breathe down their neck.
“Seriously, what were you think Bob?” asked Blade. He had his arms crossed and stared at the lower developer with a look that could make even a dragon crap himself.
You would think the lead developer was just a title, but in a world where one could snap his fingers and change the very fabric of reality, his power extended to far beyond the realms of godhood.
Bob threw his arms up defensively, “I’m trying boss I’m trying!”
“Oh, don’t give me that shit… You know how important the testing phase was! Who in the blazes was that guy? Was he really the best candidate for the BETA program?”
Developer Bob shrugged, “The guy had some serious hours in other games. The guy obviously had no life.”
“And how does that translate to… He should test the largest MMORPG ever to be created within the galaxy? I saw the tapes…”
“What about the tapes?” Bob asked defensively, he had found himself wrapped up in the man’s highly entertaining antics.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
Developer Blade screamed! “What about? AHHH!!” His voice sank down low to a deadly whisper as he pulled Bob into an uncomfortable, close position. “What he did on Fanswald will leave a permanent scar… The people he changed, the very geography! AHHH!”
Bob nodded his understanding with an amused expression. Yeah, good times, he thought.
The boss visibly shivered. “I can’t believe I had to intervene!”
Bob nodded, pretending to listen. He knew just how much his boss hated involving himself with lesser beings and often went into a long, boring tirade, bitching about every tiny interaction he had ever experienced.
Yep, power has certainly gone to this guy’s head.
“The floodgates are about to be opened! I want a smooth launch! And I don’t want any funny business!”
Bob nodded again, appearing more like a parrot than an employee.
Suddenly, a shiver ran down Bob’s spine. He had remembered something. He was going to tell his boss about the twelve specifically unique classes he had personally created within the world. But right at that moment, maybe it wasn’t the right time.
Bob shrugged it off. It wasn’t like anyone could obtain any of the special, unique class. They would need a special token that was reserved for only…
“Shit,” Bob swore.
“What?” his boss narrowed his eyes. “What is it?”
“Oh nothing,” Bob lied. “I forgot to bring lunch today.”
Developer Blade sighed, “I swear…” He glanced at his employee as if he was an annoying bug. “Don’t you remember? It’s Friday, it’s falafel Friday’s today.”
Bob apologised for his stupidity and moved away from his boss’s scrutiny and into the lunchroom. By the time he had made it into the canteen, he had completely forgotten about the twelve tokens he had stashed throughout the continents.
And the one had had placed specifically inside a reward chest for completing the BETA test.
