Chapter 8 - Continued Growth
I’m level 30 now and Blaze lets me hunt by myself if the monster isn’t past lv 40.
Right now I am following a lone Shadow Wolf.
Usually Shadow Wolves stay together in packs so this is a rare chance, they also drop good items.

Ohh, pretty strong, but what I really need to worry about is its ability, [Blinding Strike] which causes a blind effect for 30 sec, stacking on each hit.
Well I just have to dodge them, if it doesn’t hit then it's fine.
Thinking so to myself I sneaked up closer to it, but then it noticed and entered its shadow rushing towards me.
“Tch. Well when it’s already like this… Shadow Stride!”
I too enter the shadow and rushed towards it.
Since I can’t do damage to it when it’s in the shadow, and vice versa, I had to get it out.
“Shadow Prison!”
As I said this the wolf got entangled by its own shadow and lifted out into the open, making a perfect target.
“Wind Slash! and… Piercing Light!”
Following the blade of wind was a flash of light whizzing through the air towards its easy target.
After getting hit by the wind, the light pierced right through the wolf and continued until it ran out of mana.
“Ha! Easy, just as I said. Well now what did you drop.”

I walk to the now decaying body, which left only a shining object behind.
I picked up what looked like a fang.
“Identify.”
Shadow Wolf Fang
Very sharp and makes a great blade for a dagger
Also has the same effect as [Blinding Strike]

“Ohhh. Nice. A good grade too, I can use this to make a dagger.”
After collecting the drop and some plants, I walked back home.
When I got there, Blaze was already done setting up for Archery lessons.
“Blaze! I’m back.”
“So how did the hunt go?” [Blaze]
“It was fun, I tried out a new spell today. Oh and I also collected this [Shadow Wolf Fang].”
“Ohh now that is a nice drop. I’ll make it into a dagger for you, go put in in the house then come out for archery lesson.” [Blaze]
“Okay, and I leveled up again.”
I went back outside after I grabbed my bow from my room.
When I got outside, Blaze started explaining the basics of using the bow again.
The reason why I’m also learning how to use the bow is because it will help me to improve my aim when I cast my ranged spells, like [Fireball].
It also helps to increase my Concentration and Endurance stats.
Once we were done with the lesson, I showed Blaze my new spell [Piercing Light].
“Oho. That is indeed a strong spell, especially against Dark attribute monsters and armor. It’s probably a tier 7 or 8 am I right?” [Blaze]
“Yep, it’s tier 8.”
“Okay, we finished the lesson a little bit early do you want to go hunting again?” [Blaze]
“Ohh! Sure! But before that, let me go visit dad first.”
Saying so I walked towards dad’s grave.
On the way i picked up some flowers and laid them on in front of his tombstone.
I didn’t do much but stared at the grave.
I don’t really know how to feel now since I haven’t even lost my parents from my previous life.
I wonder how they are doing now, without me.
A little bit later Blaze came to get me.
“Are you ready to go now Haliel?” [Blaze]
“Yeah, let’s go.”

It’s been a couple months since Alan’s death and Haliel is starting to go back to her cheerful self.
In this short amount of time, she has already reached level 32 and came up with many new spells.
Many of them are around tier 7-8 while most are tier 5-6.
This is an amazing feat for someone who’s so young.
Right now we are tracking down a herd of Rainbow Horned Deers.
Unlike normal deers, this monster is extremely aggressive and ranges from level 40-50.
They also always stay in a herd so like the Shadow wolves, they are hard to hunt alone.
“Alright Haliel set up your [Shadow Prison] and start attacking, I’ll take care of any charging at you.” [Blaze]
“Okay! Shadow Prison! Rain of Fire!”
Once the deers were trapped in their own shadows, Haliel pulled out her bow and fired an arrow.
As the arrow passed by her magic circle, it split into hundreds of flaming arrows and killed many deers instantly.
Those that were still alive were the ones that the arrows didn’t hit.
“Aww that didn’t kill them all. Well guess it’s time for [Blade Dance]”
‘Hmm something’s weird about this herd.’
‘There are way too many deers to just be led by one deer and what’s with this corrupted mana flow?’ [Blaze]
I was right, just as Haliel was about to strike the Alpha male, it dodged.
Not only that it striked back, knocking Haliel back a few feet.
“Haliel! Are you okay.” [Blaze]
“Ah. Y… yeah that just surprised me. Healing Hand.”
“It’s good you have a healing spell now. Stay behind me, there is something wrong with this deer. Identify!” [Blaze]

‘And what is with this [Darkened] thing, this isn’t something the Rainbow Horned Deers should have.’ [Blaze]
“Flamethrower!” [Blaze]

I did as Blaze said and ran as fast as I could away from the area when Blaze started fighting.
I wasn’t sure at first why Blaze was so worried because he can easily kill that thing.
I finally understood his worry when the deer dodged his [Flamethrower].
After it dodged, it kicked Blaze and he went flying, though Blaze didn’t really get hurt.
It then started running after me!
Please don’t chase me! I’ll die if you do!
You took nearly 90% of my health with just 1 kick!!
I only acted like it was nothing to not worry Blaze.
And since I had a heal, I healed myself back to full health.
Just as it was about to reach me, Blaze jumped in between.
“Ha! Can’t dodge this when you’re coming straight at me! Fire Blast!” [Blaze]
As Blaze said that, a magic circle appeared in front of him and an eruption of fire came out of it, engulfing the deer.
Though the deer got a direct hit, it somehow managed to come out alive which surprised me and Blaze.
“W… what! How did it survive that! I know my stats had been halved by the transformation but!” [Blaze]
He didn’t have time to finish his sentence because the deer was yet again in my face.
“Wind Slash!”
I barely managed to kill it before it reached me with its horns.
After it died, the other Rainbow Horned Deers ran away.

When we finally got home, I went and took a bath.

“They usually aren’t that strong or have the [Darkened] state. And I also sense a corruption in the mana flow, though we should be fine inside the Ward Crystal.” [Blaze]
“Oh and also, it will be taking way longer to level up now that you passed the level 40 mark. And once you pass the level 60 mark, it will take even longer to level up, it also requires hunting higher level monster to even gain experience after that.” [Blaze]
