Chapter 5 - Queen Eril and the Looming Disaster

4 years ago in the Elven Empire of Glaswen.

It has been been 3 weeks since Eril was brought back and was forced to marry Rínor, who was supposed to marry Eril’s older sister Inunis.

Eril wasn’t named Ruling Queen as she was not the original heir to the throne so Rínor became the Ruling King instead, because he was the fiance to Inunis.

Anyways not a single day passed where Eril didn’t think about Alan and Haliel.

After enduring all the preparations the week before the marriage and the meetings the week after it Eril has had enough.

‘I can’t take this anymore! Arggh! That’s it I’m sneaking out of here tonight!’ [Eril]

Later that day, Eril finally managed to sneak out of the castle and is sneaking in the shadows towards the gate.

She is wearing a hooded cloak to cover her face and just as she reached the gate…

“Who goes there! Who are you, show me your face and state your business.” [Guard]

‘Tch. Dammit!’ [Eril]

Eril did as the guard asked, and took off the hood.

“Oh! Your Highness what are you doing here alone?” [Guard]

“Uh… umm I was just out for a stroll. I needed some fresh air after being cooped up in the castle for so long.” [Eril]

“Hahaha, Highness I know how you feel, but you really should’ve brought along some guards. Who knows what King Rínor would do if something were to happen to you too.” [Guard]

“You don’t have to worry about that, I’m way stronger than Inunis. I am level 89 you know.” [Eril]

“Ehh!? You’re that high of a level? Well that is high but nonetheless it’s still proper to have at least 2 guards by your side Highness.” [Guard]

“I appreciate your worry, but unless they can get pass [Radar] or higher level than me, they stand no chance.” [Eril]

“Either ways it’s getting late now so you should get back to the castle now.” [Guard]

“Yeah… you’re right. Well, I’ll be going now then.” [Eril]

‘Tch. I should’ve just went over the wall, though it would be harder…’ [Eril]

This was what Eril thought as she walked back to her room.

It has been 2 years and all my attempts to escape so far have not ended well.

The worst was after Rínor found me trying to run away.

Ever since, I had never been alone and is always followed by 4 members of the Royal Guard.

And now I really can’t leave… that is because I have given birth to one of Rínor’s child, Merilien.

Merilien reminds me so much of Haliel… I hope she is ok with Alan…

Merilien is 3 months now, the exact same age as Haliel when I was taken from her and Alan.

Unlike Haliel however, Merilien is never quiet, in fact she keeps me up at night sometimes.

“Eril how is the baby tonight? Is she causing you any trouble? I can take her off your hand for tonight, I want to spend some time with her too.” [Rinor]

“She isn’t as cranky as she usually is but I would appreciate you taking her for a bit.” [Eril]

Saying so I handed him Merilien and went to bed.

After Eril went to sleep, Rinor was up with Merilien.

‘Hmm… I know Eril was forced to marry me after Inunis got assassinated but for her to try and run away that many times… She must’ve had a lover that she was taken from by the RERC. I do feel bad for her but this is not the time, the Empire needs a King and Queen to rule them when we are in the face of an even greater threat than the humans…’ [Rinor]

“Little Merilien I am sorry but you may have to face the hardships of this fight with the Shades.” [Rinor]

Another 2 years passed.

The situation with the Shades have gotten worst, so bad in fact that the Elven Council has even agreed to form a temporary “peace” with the humans and even an alliance with them.

The alliance seemed like something that  would never happen, but it  did because the Human Kingdoms and the Elven Empire are the places of which the Darkening occurs in most.

The Darkening is when corrupted mana taints a large area which then infects the the animals and monsters living in those areas.

Animals infected would turn into monsters even more aggressive than the normal ones, while infected monsters gets a huge power boost to both their strength and bloodlust.

The occurrences of Darkening are caused by Shades, mysterious beings that appeared about 10 years ago from accross the sea.

When they first arrived, they stayed hidden but now as their number grow, they are becoming more aggressive.

And in these dark times, my third child was born, one year ago.

His name is Gelion, and he too was like Haliel with his white hair and red eyes.

He also bore the mark of the hero, an existence that will be needed to face off against the Shades.

The humans are also working on their preparation for the Hero Summoning that they always do in these kind of situation.

The reason for this is that they had not been blessed by a hero in the last 10,000 years.

Merilien too will begin her training after she turns 6, as of now she’s still only 2.

Both Merilien and Gelion will not be able to live the same life me and my sister did when we were their age…

Instead they will be trained to face off against the rising monster activities and the Shades.

Gelion especially will have it hard as he will bare all the burden of our hope.

‘Alan… Haliel… I hope I will get to meet you soon… I know Alan will prepare you well Haliel. Train well to survive the upcoming disaster please.’ [Eril]

“Rinor I have a request, please… ” [Eril]

“What is it Eril?” [Rinor]

“Please I know we’re married now and all but… can you please dispatch some men to go and protect my husband and child?” [Eril]

“Is he that important to you. Wait did you just say child!? You already had a child before you married me!?” [Rinor]

“Y… yeah. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you but it wasn’t my fault that something like this happened… Please!” [Eril]

“Huuu. You are right, it wasn’t your fault but… I can’t spare much man… do you know where he may be?” [Rinor]

“N… no I don’t. He probably found another place to hide Haliel in by now. So it most likely is another forest similar to the on we were living in before, with high level monsters. Which means they are vulnerable to the Darkening.” [Eril]

“Hmmm. I guess I can ask the scout scanning for corrupted mana to be on the lookout for them and if they do find them, to bring them back here. Other than this, I can’t spare anyone, sorry.” [Rinor]

Rinor was not so happy with this discovery but it had something to do with the Darkening and the Shades so he decided on that.
