Chapter 22 - Interesting Missions

A couple days ago I received a letter from Lord Dolon asking for me to spy on a certain ‘person’ and after reading the content a smirk appeared on my face.

It has been a while since he mobilized me and I was starting to get rusty, so upon finding out about an opportunity to go out, I jumped on it.

‘I hope this doesn’t just turn into something boring, besides that would be highly unlikely since I’ll be infiltrating into the Emperor’s Palace after all. Best not get catch then or I might just lose my head this time.’ [Spy]

Though it really is dangerous if I get caught by the Royal Guards, since its is to ensure our future then it’s a risk I’m willing to take.

Since I have the skill [Concealment] it would be harder to detect me on [Radar] so I should be safe but I should still be careful.

I may not be the strongest person alive but am quite proud of my speed, which only a few can catch up to.

And thanks to my title as [Master Spy] I gain a buff to my speed and also increases the sensitivity of my senses, meaning I can see a longer distant and hear more clearly.

Even with my speed, it would take long to get to Llyn from Faefina, which is in the Northwestern part of the Glaswen Empire.

Good thing I also have a teleportation spell, though it costs a lot of mana and has a long cooldown period but if I want to gather as much info as possible I need get there as soon as possible.

It would take less effort and cost less mana if I have a magic circle at my destination and since Lord Dolon obviously knows this he already set it up for me.

With the incantation already inscribed in the magic circle, I can just use a shorten chant and say the spell to activate it.

“Open the gates to my destination, [Teleportation]!” [Spy]

A magic circle just big enough to surround me appears below me as a bright light goes off and I began to disappear while the same thing is happening to the other magic circle and I reappear there.

Where I appeared was in a dense part of the Elisven Forest near the North road leading up to Llyn.

As I was walking to the gate, I also thought of multiple ways to get in but then a merchant carven came up and another idea popped into my head.

I waited in the thicket until the carven came by me and I quickly entered their ranks without anyone noticing.

After passing by the guards at the North Gate, I separated from the merchants and headed for the Royal Palace.

Getting in was the easy part, the hard part was staying hidden and sending back my reports.

“Hmm. According to Lord Dolon, since Haliel is now an official member of the Royal family, she should be getting a personal guard, butler, and maid soon to protect her from assassination. Hehe, why don’t I be her ‘butler’ then. Let’s go find who is supposed to be her butler and take his place since trying to take on a guard will be hard.” [Spy]

Looking around for a bit I just happen to hear what I was aiming for from inside a room.

“Okay Nym, you are best fitted to serve my adopted daughter Haliel. It took some thought and starting today I would like for you to begin. Huff… though I say this, she’s nowhere to be found so I would like for you to help the guards look for her.” [Rinor]

“Haha, kids will be kids your Majesty, and I truly am honor to be chosen to look after Princess Haliel. So if you’d please excuse me, I’ll be going to help look for her now.” [Nym]

“You are dismissed Nym.” [Rinor]

“Hmm, what luck I have. Already found my target and it hasn’t even been that long since I got here, though all these guards will make it hard to swap with this Nym person so I’ll wait till he’s alone.” [Spy]

So with that decided I began trailing him while also avoiding the detection of the guards.

It took some time but soon he was all by himself and concealing myself, I sneaked up behind him and knocked him out.

I dragged him behind a building close by so that no one will see us and used turned him on his backside.

When I did that, I was shocked to find out that he resembles me quite a bit except for his mustache. 

“My my, luck is on my side today isn’t it? To think there’s someone as handsome as me in this world. Well, I’m sorry for doing this to someone as handsome as you but this is something I must do to find the secret that girls is hiding, which could possibly give our race an edge. I hope you forgive me?” [Spy]

With that being said, I began to strip him and switched out my own clothings to wear his

“Hmm, now what should I do to you? I don’t want to stain my hands already, guess I’ll leave you to the wild monsters then. Let’s see it’s been roughly 8 or 9 hours since I last used [Teleportation] so it should be back up now. Yep, guess I’ll send you to Elisven Forest while you’re unconscious. Open the gates to my destination, [Teleportation].” [Spy]

This spell is quite useful since I can direct its effect towards others beside myself, but it will cost more mana.

“Well, with this settled, I will now search for you Haliel.” [Spy]

I am now currently on the rooftop of a guard tower meditating and going over my knowledge from Earth.

The reason I’m doing this is because I don’t want to forget about what I learned and let it go to waste, also because I’m  not allowed to overwork my body at the moment and I have nothing else to do.

Doing it up here is also relaxing with the cool breeze on my face and helps me focus.

Not only will this help me retain my knowledge, it also raises my Intelligence stat.

For a while now the guards have been running around relentlessly for some reason and earlier I felt someone using a weird magic near the small forest which is close to the training area.

I was curious about it but decided that it must’ve just been someone trying out a new spell so I ignored it.

Then as I was going over my science classes in highschool, someone shouted out to me using wind magic.

“PRINCESS HALIEL, WHERE ARE YOU!?” [??]

“Ah! My eardrums! What is it!?” 

“Ah, Princess what are you doing up there!? We were looking all over for you.” [??]

“Ha? Looking for me? Why?”

Looking down I saw that the person calling me was a guard who seems to be in his later teen years with blonde hair and emerald green eyes, but since he is an elf I’m not sure how old he actually is.

“Well, since you’re a Princess now, his Majesty has decided to give you your personal guard, butler, and maid. Though you were nowhere to be found so we searched for you. Haha but to think you’d be in such a place. Well, come down so we can have a proper talk?” [Guard]

“Huff… okay, be right down. [Updraft Wind].”

After activating the tier 4 spell [Updraft Wind] that creates an updraft to slow down your fall, I jumped down from the 6 story tall tower and landed in front of the guard.

“Wait why do I need a personal guard, butler, and maid when Gelion and Merilien doesn’t have them?”

“Ah, that. Well it’s because they are always with her Highness and her guards. They do however have their own maids and butlers, who helps take take of their rooms.” [Guard]

“So are you my personal guard or are you just helping them look for me?”

“Haha, I am your personal guard. Pleased to be in your service Princess Haliel, I am Laurel.” [Laurel]

After saying so he knelt down before he grabbed my hand and kissed the back of it.

E-eh? They really do this kind of thing? I-I suppose I should’ve saw this coming?

“A-ah, so are we going back to meet the others?” 

“Yes, Princess.” [Laurel]

With that I followed Larrel as he begins walking to my room where I would meet my maid and butler.

“Ah and also Princess, I just want to say this but you sure are amazing. Even though you were hurt from fighting a Shade, you still managed to beat Kiirion and display such swordsmanship.” [Laurel]

“Hmm, you were there?”

“Yep, I was training there before the fight began and I stayed there to watch the fight. I’m glad I did, since I got to see something amazing.” [Laurel]

“Hehe, thanks.”

As we were chatting, a figure that came out of nowhere startled us as Larrel grabbed the hilt of his sword.

W-what? I didn’t even sense his presence o [Radar] what the heck.

“Oh, Nym you scared me. Didn’t we agree to meet up at the Princess’s room after we were done searching our part? And when did you shave your mustache?” [Laurel]

“Ahaha. Sorry, I was just worried and thought that I should keep on searching just in case. As for my mustache, I just wanted to look more presentable to the Princess. I don’t want to be the only old man with you bunch hahaha.” [Nym]

“Hehe, it would’ve been fine even if you hadn’t. You’ll be my butler from now on right? Then I appreciate your service.”

Hearing me say this he smiled and bowed down to me before responding.

“I am glad to be in your service Princess Haliel.” [Nym]

“Ah, we shouldn’t be making Alissa wait for us, let’s hurry back.” [Laurel]

“You’re right, let’s go.”

Earlier today, after I was called by his Majesty and told that I would be the personal maid of Princess Haliel, I was called by Queen Silvia

‘W-what could such an esteemed person want with a lowly maid like me?’ [Alissa]

I was quite nervous to have been called by our previous Empress but I can’t just ignore such a call so I went to her chamber as instructed.

“I-I’m here Queen Silvia.” [Alissa]

“You may come in.” [Silvia]

With her permission, I opened the door and entered it to find myself facing a beauty who seems to be in her later twenties with silky blonde hair and deep blue eyes.

I couldn’t believe how young she looks because I had never seen her before and she is supposed to be over a couple thousand years old.

“I’m am truly glad you came Alissa. You are to be Haliel’s maid is that right?” [Silvia]

“A-ah yes, that’s right.” [Alissa]

“Perfect. I have a little mission I want you to do for me.” [Silvia]

“Wah! I-I don’t think I’m the right person to ask that to your Majesty.” [Alissa]

“Oh, but you are the only person who can accomplish it. Believe in yourself and listen to me.” [Silvia]

“I-if you say so my Queen. What is it that you need to do?” [Alissa]

“It’s quite simple, I want you to… kill Haliel.” [Silvia]

“W-wah! I-I can’t do such thing as killing someone your Majesty! I-I’m sorry but-” [Alissa]

“Don’t worry just relax. And besides, don’t you want to protect the Emperor and his family? Haliel tricked everyone and now they think she’s part of the family. I would kill her personally but… if I were to act, it would be too conspicuous. So, I need you to do it for me, but wait for the right time. I’ll send a message to you when the time’s right.” [Silvia]

“Huh? But how would you do it?” [Alissa]

“Don’t worry about it, I have my way. That is all, but don’t tell anyone what we discussed in here alright?” [Silvia]

“O-okay. T-thank you for informing me with such knowledge, I won’t let anyone else find out about this.” [Alissa]

I-I can’t believed it, Princess Haliel is mind controlling them? T-then is she also controlling the [Hero]? No, I mustn’t think like this. I can’t have her find out that I know. Just gotta keep up the act and meet up with her guard and butler… [Alissa]

After leaving Queen Silvia’s chamber, I met up with Laurel and Nym as we splitted up to look for Princess Haliel.

The whole time I was sweating and hoping that I won’t encounter her so soon but even still I had to prepare myself since I’ll become her personal maid from now on.

After I looked through my area, I went to her room as we agreed and waited for them to return.

An hour and a half passed by when they finally came back with Princess Haliel.

“Ah, you must be Alissa, right? I’m glad to have you as my maid, please take care of me from now on.” 

“A-ah, yeah same here Princess. Please take care of me.” [Alissa]

‘T-to think someone as adorable as her be evil enough to mind control the Emperor… such a waste.’ [Alissa]

“So, why did you guys decide to meet up at my room?”

“Well, it was because if we couldn’t find you then you would’ve eventually come back here right?” [Laurel]

“Hmm, that makes sense. So what now?”

“Hahaha. That’s up to you to decide Princess, we’re merely here to follow your orders and since you’ve already met and greeted all of us there is no real reason to just stand here and do nothing. So what is it that you want to do?” [Laurel]

“Hmm. If that’s the case then as it’s almost time for the family diner, I’ll go there and eat then come back, take a shower, and go to sleep.” 

“Then, as you wish we’ll go with you.” [Nym]

“A-and, I’ll stay here to prepare your bath for you Princess.” [Alissa]

After saying that they went off to the Dining Hall while I entered Princess Haliel’s room and started to make her bath.

PS. sorry guys for the wait!! After finishing SAT I kinda lost all motivation to do anything XD but now I'm back.
