Chapter 15 - Smart and Strong

It’s been a couple minutes since Gelion and Merilien left the room and now I’m dressing myself.

Just as I finished, mom entered the room.

“Oh, Haliel you’re finally up. Do you have something else to change into? You wore that yesterday you know.” [Eril]

“Actually, I do but it looks just like this one.” 

“Then how about wearing one of my dresses from when I was younger?” [Eril]

What, wear a dress?! Nope I will not do such a thing. 

I have to keep at least some of my dignity as a man…

“Haha… well, I don’t think that’ll be a good idea right? You know the other elves may begin to question why I’m wearing such an elegant dress all of a sudden.” 

“I guess you have a point there….” [Eril]

Mom made a dissatisfied face when she heard that.

Well, that is true so I now have a good reason not to wear a dress.

“Ah, you haven’t eaten anything yet have you? I’ll go call a maid to bring something over.” [Eril]

Mom went out of the room and came back with a tray of food.

She placed it on a desk and urged me to come eat.

Since I was hungry I went over and started eating.

“Oh, this taste really good.”

“Isn’t it?” [Eril]

“So, umm do you know where Blaze is?” 

“Oh, yeah. He went with Yoichi and his men to find out the cause of what happened yesterday, with Gelion and Merilien getting attacked by a [Darkened] monster.” [Eril]

“So he just left me? Hpmh. I want to go hunting too. Now what will I do?”

“Hehe. Is that all you ever think about?” [Eril]

“Well, it is the only thing I’ve done so far, other than making new magic spells.”

‘Ah…. right. That’s all she’s been doing so far…’

‘Oh yeah I wonder if she knows how to read or write. Or how about math?’ [Eril]

“Hey Haliel, do you know how to read or write?” [Eril]

“Huh? Well, I haven’t had the chance to so I’m not sure?” 

“I see, then how about I teach you?” [Eril]

Great, school again…

“Uhhh… sure, why not. I have nothing else to do anyways.” 

So with that mom went and grabbed a lot of books.

We started with an easy one, a children’s book, and I was surprised when I was able to read their weird letters.

It seems my skill [World Language] also affects the words that I see too.

Afterwards we moved on to harder books but I was still able to read and understand them.

This shocked my mom because not even Gelion and Merilien, who had been learning these things, could comprehend these stuff yet.

After reading came writing, now this was a bit more difficult since I don’t know the alphabet.

After spending about an hour going over the alphabet, I memorized all 32 letters(?) used in the Elven language.

This surprised even me because even though we spent only a few hours after that learning the proper format and stuff for writing, I already had it down.

Why couldn't I have been this smart in my past life!?!?

Anyways by now it was starting to get dark again because I woke up sometime during the afternoon.

By this time, Gelion and Merilien had come back and are in the room right now.

“Mom, what are you doing with Haliel?” [Merilien]

“Oh, I was just teaching her to read and write but it seems I didn’t need to teach her much…” [Eril]

“Really? So did she learn them before?” [Gelion]

“No, I haven’t but it just sorta comes to me. I’m not sure how to explain it.”

Well, technically I did learn this before in a different language and also different world but still.

“Wow so you’re both smart and strong?” [Gelion]

“But do you know how to do math? Me and Gelion are learning multiplications right now.” [Merilien]

Merilien said so with an arrogant tone.

Haha. Seems she doesn’t like me, but still don’t even dare challenge me in Math little girl.

It was my best subject, and if this is really the same as the middle ages then I would know even more than most adults.

“Well, then how about you show her how to do it?” [Eril]

“Okay, I’ll be glad to show her how to do it.” [Merilien]

Saying so, she began teaching me Math, starting with addition and subtraction, which I ‘learned’ extremely fast.

Shocked by how fast I learned, she decided to go into multiplication.

I also got it in an instant and even did triple, and more, digit multiplication to show off.

Merilien became quiet after that, and both mom and Gelion was just amazed.

“It hasn’t even been 2 hours yet and you can already do this much? You just keep surprising me Haliel. And thank you Merilien for showing her how to do it” [Eril]

Now that I think about it, I feel bad for showing off….

I shouldn’t be messing with Merilien, she really is just a child and I’m not.

“Thanks, but I think I’ll go do some training now. I’ve been in this room the whole day.”

Saying so I was about to leave the room when Rinor came in.

“Oh good, you’re here Haliel and Eril.” [Rinor]

“What do you want now?” [Eril]

“Please, just listen to me. Look, I’m sorry I made the guards attack you the other day Haliel, I don’t know what got over me.” [Rinor]

“I know…. and I regret that but….” [Rinor]

“Enough, why are you looking so pathetic for in front of your children?” [Eril]

Great, another obstacle blocking my way…. Well, let’s just get this over with.

“It’s alright. Let’s just let bygones be bygones. How does that sound?” 

“Haha. You’re one weird kid you know that Haliel?” [Rinor]

“Yep, now if you’d excuse me. I have some training to do.”

Saying so I walked out of the room and went over to the training area.

After me and Merilien came back from the lesson, we went to mom’s room.

There we saw mom  and Haliel together.

When we asked what they were doing, mom said that she was teaching Haliel and that she learned everything already.

This really surprised me because Merilien and I were still learning.

‘So how come Haliel already understands everything?’

‘Is she really smart too?’ [Gelion]

I could tell Merilien wasn’t happy when mom praised Haliel so she wanted to show off how good she was in Math.

It didn’t go as she planned because Haliel also learned it very quickly.

‘Wow, what took us weeks or even more to learn only took her a couple hours.’

‘Now, I look up to her even more.’ [Gelion]

Afterward dad came in to apologize to mom and Haliel for what he did yesterday, which Haliel did almost instantly.

When that was done, she said she was going out to train even though it was getting late already.

I was surprised by what she said, even dad, so we followed her to the training area.

When she got there, she took out her sword and said something.

“Mirror Image.”

All of a sudden, another Haliel popped up, but this one was glowing blue.

‘She just made another her!’ [Gelion]

They both took a stance before fighting each other.

As we observed, Haliel disappeared from the spot and reappeared behind the other her.

‘That was similar to what she did yesterday.’

‘I wonder how she could be so fast?’ [Gelion]

Drawing her blade at the last second before she came into contact with her clone, she slashed vertically.

Her clone drew her sword just in time to block it then they both disappeared and reappeared all across the area.

After a couple minutes of exchanging blows with her clone, she stopped to make even more of hem.

Now it was one against ten.

‘How will she beat ten when she was tied with just one.’

‘Wait they didn’t even used any skills or spells yet!’ [Gelion]

“Moonlight Flash!”

Saying that, her blade began to glow the color of the moon.

Her clones also used the same skill and now their blades were also the color of the moon.

‘They’re all going to use the same move so who would win?’

‘They’re all her so she may lose because of the number disadvantage right?’ [Gelio]

I was wrong, at that very moment she charged towards them, a trail of light following her every move.

When she reached them, she didn’t even stop, instead she rushed through them all and appeared on the other side.

Nothing happened and no one moved, then as Haliel put her blade back into its sheath, the clones bursted into light and disappeared.

‘Wow, how could she do that!? Where did she learn that?’ [Gelion]

When I looked back to mom, dad, and Merilien; they all had their jaws dropped like me.

“S...such maneuverability shouldn’t be possible for a child her age! Even adults would have a hard time doing that.” [Rinor]

Now she is taking out her bow and shooting arrows to each target.

After all of them landed dead center, she shot off multiple at once and these new arrows just pierced through the previous ones and again hit the center.

Just as she finished pulling out the arrows, Yoichi and the others came back from their investigation.

Both me and Merilien ran to go and greet Yoichi.

“Blaze! You’re back! Why did you leave without me?” 

“Hahaha. I’m sorry you were sleeping so soundly that I thought I’d let you sleep a bit more.” [Blaze]

“Well, next time you better bring me along.”

“Welcome back Yoichi. Did you find anything?” [Gelion]

“Yeah, we found a den of monsters, all [Darkened] not far from Llyn. We will be going back tomorrow to subjugate them.” [Yoichi]

“So no training tomorrow?” [Merilien]

“I’m sorry, but yeah no training tomorrow.” [Yoichi]

“It’s alright, we can just practice what we learned so far.” [Gelion]

“You better take me with you tomorrow Yoichi.”

“Fine fine. Just don’t get in the way.” [Yoichi]

“That won’t be a problem.” 

Haliel said that with such a confident smile on her face.

‘I wish I was strong enough to help in the subjugation like Haliel is.’ [Gelion]

“Alright then we will prepare the supplies for tomorrow. Everyone else go to sleep so you get enough rest for tomorrow’s battle.” [Yoichi]

And with that, everyone went to bed except mom, dad, Yoichi, and some of his men.
