White Fang

The first floor of the building had been turned upside down after the previous encounter between Lia's group and the zombies and there were a lot of broken pieces of furniture scattered everywhere so there was no issue of where to sit despite the number of people presents already exceeding forty, everyone easily found something to rest their bodies on so they could rest as resting was currently a much desired need for the group since today has been a crazy day so far.

This was especially so for Fablo's group who had come for clearing, today had been one of the craziest days since the beginning of the apocalypse and some of them had almost died.

The thirty-three men sat together on one side of the room while Fablo and his group sat opposite them. Although everyone had found a spot to rest randomly, one could tell that there were two groups in the room from a glance.

Edward was currently sitting next to Fablo with his eyes fixed on the shattered door frame through which the outside could be seen, the rain was slowly coming to a stop and he could see the sky turning darker; night was approaching.

'What a crazy day' Edward exclaimed inwardly as he turned his gaze to the men sitting opposite them.

They looked quite fearsome considering that they were all men and how better their weapons were compared to Fablo's group, their worn-out clothes showed that they had stories of their own as well.

Similarly, like how Edward and the others were studying the men opposite them, the men were also staring at them with most of them wearing visible looks of astonishment as they stared at Edward.

They were most likely wondering how someone could remain perfectly unharmed despite their clothes getting to such a condition.

"I believe we didn't come here just to stare at each other, how about we get started before it's too late? We still have people to return to, we don't want to get them too worried since we have been out since morning" The same man who had questioned Priscal earlier after saving them from the zombie in military uniform voiced out, causing all eyes to focus on him for a brief moment.

Fablo nodded and straightened his back while sitting.

"My name is Fablo and I am the leader of this small group. These are not all the members of my group, we still have people who are waiting for us back at our shelter. Only fourteen of us came out for this clearing mission" Fablo decided to speak up first. After all, these people had helped them without asking questions so he wanted to show their appreciation by not hiding things. Obviously, Fablo wouldn't just spit out everything because he was grateful, he still kept the location of their shelter and the total number of people to himself for now.

After Fablo said his piece, the leader of the other group also talked about themselves.

The man introduced himself as white fang and he was the leader of a small human settlement that was just behind this estate, their base was situated between the military base that Fablo and his group members were heading for, and this estate that they were currently trying to clear.

"Our settlement has over fifty people, most of us are men and we also have a few women in our settlement as well" the man who addressed himself as white fang said.

"How did you manage to gather so many people in such a place as this? And with so many people at that," Fablo could not help but voice out in disbelief and suspicion.

Noticing Fablo's untrusting gaze, white fang only sighed as his back caved in in a tired manner. He slowly opened his mouth.

"We all were not originally residents of this estate when the virus broke out three years ago. Most of us were cadets or serving officers in the military base that you guys were heading to, but three years ago… the z-zombies" white fang tried to explain but the longer he spoke, the more shaken his voice became and his eyes trembling with a horrified expression that made even Edward who believed to have seen a few horrors to feel cold.

White Fang, as well as all the men sitting around him, had looks of people who had looked at something worse than death in the eyes and even shared a hug or handshake with the netherworld. Their eyes suddenly turned lifeless and hollow as if remembering terrifying memories made Fablo and his group gulp hard, they could only imagine just what these men had gone through in these past years that would make all of them suddenly look like frightened children.

White Fang stopped talking and took a few deep breaths with his eyes closed, his actions gave the impression of one who was trying to clear his mind of bothering thoughts. Fablo, Edward, and the others could only wait for whatever he was going to say next with contemplating hearts.

"Sorry for causing such a heavy mood just now, I'll explain a few things to you now. Three years ago after the zombie virus broke out…" white fang began.

The military base was a place that housed over five hundred soldiers and cadets as well as a good number of inmates who were under special arrest, the military base was heavily guarded and soldiers were always on the lookout day and night.

But that night when the virus suddenly broke out, it was so sudden that they barely had any chance to react to the sudden change of their comrades. No one knew who brought the virus in or how the virus had reached the military base, the virus had spread just too quickly by the time they could know to bother about its root and cause; the person who would most likely know the answer to this question was mostly like dead or had already become one of these hideous monsters anyway.

Despite the sudden attack and unexpected slaughter by the zombies, the soldiers in this base were, after all, well-trained and experienced soldiers so they were still able to act despite having been attacked unprepared. They still managed to quickly form groups in order to resist the zombies that were brainlessly charging at them, even cadets who were still under training were entrusted with the lives of others.

Still, despite their quick reaction and well-coordinated counter, the soldiers had just too little knowledge about these zombies to be able to fight against them effectively. All the knowledge they had about these beasts came from fictional books!
