Fablo turned around to face the zombie as he brought his bat in a swinging motion, the zombie was currently in midair after jumping towards Fablo.
BAM!!!
Fablo's bat collided with the arms of the zombie and a shock ran through his arms making his fingers feel numb from the force of the collision, he felt like he just struck a hard metal with his bat.
Fablo's feet slid across the wet floor as he was pushed back while the zombie was also thrown back a bit, unlike Fablo who felt feedback of their earlier exchange, the zombie felt nothing so it rushed at Fablo immediately after landing again with mad intensity to rip the man to shreds.
Fablo had no choice but to fight back despite the numb feeling in his hands, he clenched his bat tightly before swinging it towards the zombie's face. This zombie might be faster and stronger than normal zombies, but it still was not smart and only attacked on instincts.
BAM!!
Fablo's bat slammed right into the face of the zombie, causing the head of the zombie to fall backward forcefully as its neck bent at an unnatural angle with its neck bones sticking out of its flesh in a disgusting and disturbing way. The nails on the bat also scraped off a good amount of rotten flesh from the face of the zombie before breaking its neck.
Unfortunately, the attack did not manage to destroy the hard skull of this zombie and zombies were unable to feel pain, so despite the brutal hit and the painful-looking position of its head, the zombie did not stop and still dove at Fablo.
"Urgh!"
Fablo exclaimed with a pained expression as the zombie's body slammed into his body with force, his feet left the ground as they both fell backwards with Fablo being under the zombie.
The rain was still pouring heavily which disturbed his vision since he was currently facing the sky with the zombie on top of him, thankfully, he did not need to worry about being bitten since the face of the zombie was literally facing backwards. Still, its strength was not something that Fablo could easily contend with as he struggled to push the zombie off of his body while the rain blurred his sight.
Growl!!!
The zombie made some sounds that Fablo was not able to hear clearly because of the rain as it tried to bring its face over to take a bite of the human under it but it was proving difficult.
Crackkkkk!!
Another thunderclap sounded through the sky as the intensity of the rain intensified, Lia, Edward, and the others arrived at this point and so did the other zombies.
The sight of the zombies rushing towards them under the rain caused a kind of visual impact on Edward, causing his steps to suddenly slow down and he almost stopped.
'Damnit! They look even more scary under the rain!' Edward cursed in his heart before regaining his speed but the others had already passed him by then and were about to reach Fablo's position.
Lia arrived beside Fablo and the zombie struggling on the ground, the sight of the zombie's head bending backwards but still functioning looked so hideous that she almost forgot why she had stopped.

"Trash!"
Lia suddenly spat as she came back to her senses, she raised her hand and brought her sword swinging towards the zombie's neck.
Clang!!
Unlike before when she could decapitate their heads in one strike, this time, the zombie's head refused to come off with just a swing of her sword and it even sounded like she just hacked at a steel blade as she felt the tremor on her fingers.
"TKS, such strong bones!" She clicked her tongue before proceeding to hack at the zombie again, it took her three swings to successfully remove the head of the zombie.
The zombie did not even bother with her despite its greenish eyes staring at her the entire time, it was after all, still a low-level zombie that could not think yet.
"Thanks," Fablo said to Lia as he got up from the floor, his body was soaked in green blood that was soon washed away by the heavy rain.
Lia only glanced at him without responding, she turned to the others and realized that they were almost done with the zombies. There were not many zombies left and they were not as abnormal as this one so it did not take them long to finish them off, Edward just happened to arrive at this point so he did not need to face any zombies since they were already dealt with by Priscal and the others.
After everyone grouped, Fablo told them the next phase of the plan Which was to use the cover of the rain to clear some of the buildings close by before dealing with the zombies on the street. No one objected to this and inquired how they would go about it, they only showed dissatisfaction when Fablo explained how they would be paired up to clear separate buildings.
On account of them running into another zombie-like the one Fablo had been struggling against earlier, he decided to divide the group into three.
He suggested Lia be in charge of four people including herself which would make them a team of five, Priscal would also lead a team of five, and he would lead a team of four.
Their dissatisfactions arose from where Edward would be placed as no one wanted Edward on their team, Edward could understand their thinking so he was not too hurt by their actions.
In the end, Fablo decided to pair up with Edward while the others formed a group of six members for each group.
The others objected to this as well as they were not comfortable with Fablo going to clear a building with just Edward as his teammate but none of them were willing to be on the same team as Edward so they could only reluctantly agree and sneak through the streets under the cover of the rain to the buildings closest to them.
BAM!!
Fablo smashed the door of a building open as he and Edward rushed in to escape the heavy downpour outside. The building was a five stories building that used to be an office but one could imagine the state it was in after three years. They found three zombies on the down floor after breaking the door and easily dealt with them, Fablo killed two while Edward killed the last one.
The sound of the rain outside made their fight almost inaudible so they did not alarm the zombies on the other floors.
"Head for the stairs!" Fablo called out to Edward, he was already heading towards the stairs that were covered in dried green and red blood so Edward simply followed behind him.
They both got to the second floor but all they found were corpses of zombies along the stairs and on the entire second floor, every room they checked only had corpses left and not a single living zombie; that's if they were even living in the first place.
"This is strange, how come all the zombies on the other floors are already dead and it looks like they have been killed for a long time" Fablo wondered in confusion as they kept moving up, they were currently on the fourth but had not met a single zombie that was not already dead.
The thought of the unknown filled them with even more tension and dread than facing a horde of zombies.
They could not think of what could have happened to all these zombies but there was one similarity between all the zombie corpses that they had come across, it was every single one of those zombie corpses was missing both eyes, leaving their eye sockets empty and hollow which was a very disturbing sight.
Fablo and Edward stood at the foot of the stairs that led to the fifth floor which happened to be the last floor in the building, they could both see the tension in each other's eyes when they looked at each other.
"You ready?" Fablo asked Edward in a low voice that almost passed out as a whisper. Hell, even he was not ready to ascend these stairs but here he was asking if Edward was ready.
Fablo mocked himself inwardly before taking the first step on the stairs as he slowly climbed up.
Edward only followed behind him after a few seconds of hesitation. As for Fablo's question just now, he did not answer but he was sure that Fablo already knew his answer.
