Bring them out in the rain

Keep calm and write

Boom!!

The door was blasted across the passage and slammed into the wall on the other side, causing it to shatter into pieces as the zombie flooded out of the room like a swarm of bees.

Growling sounds echoed across the second floor like a choir was singing a chorus as they dashed after the group of seven humans who were escaping from them.

Despite all these, Lia had purposely slowed herself down so that she would be at the back of the group before returning to her top speed.

This was so that she could deal with any zombie that got too close to them on their escape.

"Keep running! Do not stop until you are under the rain and be ready to fight once you get out, don't also dare trip or stop to catch a breath else we will leave you behind!!"

Lia shouted from behind them to keep them going, the last part of her words also seemed necessary to her because such things tend to happen in such situations.

BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM!!

The ground trembled violently as the zombies raced after them from behind while making loud growling sounds, even the rain was barely covering the amount of noise that they were making but it was a good thing that it was enough for the zombies on the other floors to not be alerted and come join the pursuit, it would have been a disaster for Lia and her group if not for this.

A zombie that had gotten close to them suddenly jumped at Lia from behind with its hands spread wide open, ready to grab Lia.

Swish!!

Her sword suddenly flashed as Lia slashed the head of the zombie along with both of its hands without stopping.

Plop!

The body of the zombie fell to the ground and was quickly trampled on by the other zombies and soon lost from sight.

Although Lia did not stop when she killed that zombie, her action affected her speed and the zombies were now closer to her while the others went further away from her because they were running at full speed.

It was a general knowledge that zombies were slow, especially lower zombies with red eyes since they were the most common and could be seen everywhere, not everyone had come in contact with green-eyed zombies or those who had not lived to tell the story. But here was a thing about these red-eyed zombies, they were only slow with their attacks or when they were away but were surprisingly fast once they got close enough and that was the situation Lia was currently in. Her case was even worse because these zombies were moving like a tide because of their numbers and some were slamming themselves into those in front causing them to stumble forward faster thus catching up.

Lia moved to the side as a zombie fell into her initial position but she did not dare look back or kill it as it jumped at her.

"Damnit!"

She cursed and pushed her legs to the limit causing her speed to increase slightly. All of this had happened in a span of seconds and they quickly arrived at the stairs with the zombies quickly catching up to them.

Lia quickly caught up with the others as they began to descend the stairs, the zombies followed behind them in pursuit.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

They caused the whole stairs to vibrate like it was going to collapse from the pressure they were placing on it.

Lia took a quick glance at the zombies at the back and her eyes suddenly widened as she turned around the next instant and pulled the woman that was running in the middle of the stairs towards her. The sudden pull caused the woman to lose balance and almost fall over since she was running at her full speed despite how dangerous that would have been since she was currently running down the stairs but was held by Lia who continued running while the woman caught up with her pace and continued running beside her with a thankful expression.

She had looked at Lia with confusion in her eyes earlier when she suddenly pulled her over, causing her to almost trip. But every negative feeling that was slowly forming in her heart thinking that Lia wanted to use her as a bait to the zombies following them died instantly the moment she saw a zombie crashing along the path that she had been running on with full force.

Seemed like the zombies was pushed forth by the others, causing it to be sent crashing down the stairs and it would have crashed into her had Lia not pulled her aside in time.

The others also saw this and they all started to pay attention to the back as they ran, three other zombies followed the first one in the same manner after being pushed but the group were now ready and were able to avoid all three before getting to the first floor.

Growl!!!

The first zombie that had fallen down the stairs was already on its feet and was about to climb up the stairs when the group arrived in front of it, the other two were yet to get up but it was only a matter of seconds.

"Try to deal with them!" Lia shouted and suddenly sped up, overtaking the person running in front and arriving in front of the zombie that was about to jump at the leading person with her sword pointing sideways.

Swish!!

With a swing of her sword, the zombie's head was sent flying in the air as Lia rushed past before its body could fall to the ground and headed for the door.

The others saw this and also decided to take out the other two as fast as they could.

The man who was leading in front jumped up before he could reach the last step of the stairs.

Thud!! Crash!! Ptui!!

He jumped and landed on the head of one of the zombies trying to get up, the skull of the zombie shattered on impact and whatever was left of its brain along with green blood splashed everywhere. The man did not waste a single second after creating such an obnoxious scene and dashed towards the door just like Lia.

The person behind him decided to imitate him and dealt with the last zombie before it could get up before running after the two in front, the other four behind did not have to kill anything so they simply raced to the door and only stopped after they felt the cold drops of rain on their skins, they all turned to face the door, precisely at the horde of zombies rushing towards the door.

The wind blew fiercely, making their clothes blow to the side forcefully like it was about to carry them off their feet as they got drenched in the cold rain. They did not have the luxury to shiver from the cold as the sight of the zombies madly rushing towards the door gripped their hearts with fear. They all gulped and held onto whatever was in their hands tightly since the zombies would come out at any second.

Even Lia could no longer keep her expressionless face at this point as her eyes displayed the uncertainty that she was feeling. She did not know if they should continue running or not, where could they run to? These zombies would definitely not stop their pursuit until they had gotten all seven of them and going to another building to hide was too dangerous as there might be an even larger number of zombies than the one that they were already facing.

'Guess I would be joining you soon, Lucas' Lia sighed inwardly as a sad smile formed on her face which the other could not see clearly because of the heavy rain that was almost forming a blurry transparent wall in their sight.

Tap tap tap tap

Lia dashed towards the door before the first zombie could reach it, the door was a large blurry glass-like framed door with only a part of it opened but the material was durable enough to not collapse instantly when force was applied to it which was why they had been able to use it to deal with all the zombies that they had met on the first floor.

Lia had her imaginary fingers crossed as she hoped that frame could hold these zombies too so she could take out as many as she could.

'Hehe, hoping for the frame to hold them back? What an absurd way to misuse hope, guess I could only hope to not get born in this hellish world in my next life' Lia scoffed inwardly as she arrived in front of the door. Remembering how many times she had been hopeful during these three years of hell, she could say that it was a miracle that she had been given the opportunity to hope again even when each time was a perilous situation. Yet, even at this point where she could already tell how it could end, she was still hoping to survive. Wasn't that a bit too greedy of her? Lucas must have hoped to survive as well even when his situation was not as disastrous as hers but still died in the end, what then gave her the courage to drag hope into this?
