Another person

"I swear to God! I'm telling the truth, I did not get bitten! Why don't you want to believe me? I got this wound from scrapping against a broken window, believe me! I don't want to die!" She screamed at the top of her lungs while her face was already downing in tears.

"What happened to her?" Fablo asked the fat woman, he could already get the gist of the matter.

A sigh escaped the lips of the fat woman and she recounted what happened a while ago to Fablo, not caring that there was a group of men in a bathroom full of naked women.

So what happened was that the women were already done with their baths after consoling the woman who used a sword over Lucas's death despite her saying that she did not need it, the inspection was about to start when the woman whom Fablo had saved spotted a wound on this woman's arm.

The place did not look like a bite mark and instead looked like the skin that used to be there was peeled off, but what made the young woman scream in a frightened manner was that around the edge of the wound was green disgusting mucus.

The woman with the wound was confused by the other woman's reaction at first but instantly reacted when the frightened woman pointed out her wound and the dojo instructor reached for her sword.

She had suddenly ripped off the closest door to protect herself before Fablo and the others arrived the next moment.

Edward looked at the woman who was trembling behind the broken door, even he could tell that she was bitten from what he had just heard and the sight of the wound. While he was not related to this, Edward could not help but feel a tug on his conscience. He could already see the outcome of this gathering and was even more affirmative from the way the swordswoman held her sword. It had only been a day since they started their plan and had not even archived what could be regarded as a small success yet two people had died already.

How many of them would be left then in the face of their grand plan? That was if they would even be able to complete this mission of theirs.

Edward could not help but question himself, he started to doubt his own nature and personality; shouldn't he be making plans of how to escape by now? Especially after seeing how this woman was begging for her life despite knowing that she no longer had the privilege to be hopeful anymore? What was there to hope for when the virus was already spreading through her body? She was just begging to keep a life that was long gone and whatever she had now was just a mirage of her sanity, he didn't even know if she was still sane anymore.

But for some reason unknown to even Edward, something within him was restricting him from having thoughts of fleeing and abandoning them. Despite not feeling bad that he caused the death of a man, something kept reminding him that that person would have been alive had he not been present during the fight. But how did that even make sense? He clearly saw the man struggling against seven zombies, wouldn't he have died regardless had Edward not been present? Of course, Edward did not know that the man had ended up in that situation because he had moved his fight over to where Edward was so he could protect the kid if needed but only to be overwhelmed and eaten.

Yet something kept reminding him that he should fill in the spot of that man.

Then what about this woman? Now they were about to lose another person, did he still have the conscience to abandon them? Yes, yes he still had the mindset but Edward Just could not bring himself to formulate a plan to actually escape.

While Edward was still wallowing in his thoughts, the infected woman was frantically begging Fablo and the others to believe her. But it was all for not as the woman who used a sword still lunged at her without saying a word but her intentions and resolve were crystal clear and set on stone. No one moved to stop her, they all looked away with guilty expressions while biting their lips as the woman wordlessly attacked with her sword.

The woman who had been infected widened her eyes in fear as her own friend raised her sword at her and no one tried to stop her, obviously, she was not going to wait for death.

She retaliated in an attempt to defend herself but she was not familiar with her sudden increase in strength nor was she faster than the other woman.

Her head flew into the air before she could completely swing the door she was wielding and her body fell to the floor as a small pool of blood formed around her headless corpse.

Edward and the others drew a cold breath at the scene, they were shocked at how ruthless and cold the sword woman was to someone who could have been regarded as a friend of hers.

This was even more shocking for Fablo and the others since they had known the woman for much longer and knew that she was not this ruthless or cold to the rest of them. If anything, she was mostly cheerful and rarely showed a serious expression.

Everyone attributed this sudden change to Lucas's death.

Standing in front of the headless body of someone who was once her companion, the swordswoman slowly turned her head and glared at Fablo and the other men with sharp eyes that made one feel like the cold steel of a sword was on their throat.

"What are you all still waiting for? Get lost!" She gritted her teeth and snapped at them.

Only now did their mind register that all the women here were still naked.

The other women let out embarrassed screams and ran into the nearest room to hide while Fablo and the other men scurried out of the place, frightened by the cold woman and her sword.

.....

Currently, everyone was sitting quietly as they ate their meals with serious expressions. The sad news had already been told to the others who had stayed back at base and whoever cared enough to ask how it had happened was told what was publicly known which was the part where they found Edward standing in front of Lucas as he was already being devoured by the zombies and the sudden attack from the swordswoman.

The swordswoman did not care to tell anyone what had happened, she did not even speak to anyone so they did not know of the part where Lucas had begged Edward for help.

This caused whoever heard the story to look at Edward with different expressions, some were surprised, somewhere sorry, and some had slight contempt even.

The elderly woman who distributed the food that evening tried to cheer up Edward saying that what had happened today was not his fault and he should not take the woman's action to heart, she was one of the people who looked at him with sorry expressions.

Edward only nodded without saying a word and wordlessly accepted his food but he knew too well what had really happened so the elderly woman's kind words only made the food bitter in his mouth.
