Lucky guy

Still, despite their quick reaction and well-coordinated counter, the soldiers had just too little knowledge about these zombies to be able to fight against them effectively. All the knowledge they had about these beasts came from fictional books!

Also, one had to know that soldiers were different from ordinary people who had never undergone any training. Then imagine these people turning into mindless flesh-eating monsters, with their strength enhanced, their taste for flesh driven to the extreme, and their sense of fear and pain completely lost. One could only imagine the terror that had played out in the military base during that period.

White Fang, along with a lot of other soldiers and cadets had formed a large group in an attempt to force their way out of the military base. But since none of them had any experience or knowledge about the zombies, it had been extremely difficult just to keep their numbers from declining too quickly as the dread of their own friends suddenly turning around to bite them planted seeds of terror in their hearts, a few weak-hearted ones had even been traumatized by the outbreak.

After managing to prevent complete annihilation for a few weeks, they soon ran out of ammunition and no longer had the advantage of attacking from a distance. As for going to the weapon room to get more ammunition, they all did not even dare to think about it. This was because the weapon room was the core area of the military base and was also the place with the most zombies after the outbreak, everywhere was crawling with them, and trying to get too close to that area would result in a large number of zombies chasing after you.

Not only that, but the zombies in the military base had quickly begun to transform which could be noticed by the change in their eye colors. In the end, White Fang along with his group had done everything in their power to get to the secret exit tunnel that was relatively safer if compared to the situation of the weapon room and that was how they had managed to escape.

Of course not unscathed, they had lost quite a number of people in the escape attempt and it had taken them weeks just to draw out all the zombies that were blocking the path to the exit tunnel.

Still, they had managed to escape the military base and had fled to this estate in hopes of meeting other people but they were met with bitter resignation as the entire estate was in a situation that was no different from their base. The only difference was that the zombies here were much, much weaker compared to the zombies in the military base.

Still, they were not in any condition to fight just after fleeing and could only return to the large expanse of open field that was between the military base and the estate. The space was about two kilometers between the estate and the military base, and it was all plain ground with a few watchposts scattered around the place.

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

White Fang and his group had used these watchposts to shelter themselves from the sun, rain, and cold wind of the night as they regained their strength and slowly learned to lock away the bad memories and trauma they had experienced as it was impossible to heal from it.

A few zombies would stray into their camp every now and then, white fang with his group would capture them and use them to experiment to find their weakness. Only after they were sure that they had learned enough did they return to the estate as it was a better option than trying to reclaim the military base, they were still too terrified to try returning to that place even though they were now confident of beating those zombies.

Besides, they needed food! So the estate was a better option.

"And that was how we spent the past three years in this hell, some of the people in our settlement were people whom we saved after coming here so do not be surprised when you see them acting strangely; it's a miracle that they still managed to keep their sanity after all that had happened since not everyone has a high mental strength," white fang said and his eyes fell on Lia, Priscal, and the other women in Fablo's group.

"Ah, also. We have cleared all the other parts of the estate during these times, only this part is left and it just happened to be part of the core area of the zombies despite being the front of the estate. You all are just so lucky to have survived today"

White Fang added as his eyes fell on Edward, a look of astonishment and wary appeared in his eyes.

"I do not mean to sound paranoid but could you explain how this happened? What type of zombie did you two run Into?" White Fang said and pointed at Edward.

Everyone except Fablo also looked at Edward at this point since he looked rather eye-catching. Just how were his clothes so ripped but not a single wound or blood stain could be seen?

Edward was suddenly tongue-tied as all eyes turned to him, unsure of what to say; he was already sweating profusely as he tried to think of a lie.

Compared to the fidgeting Edward, Fablo was more calmer. He came to Edward's rescue before the kid would blow up their secret with his inexperienced behavior.

" We ran into a mutated zombie cat while clearing the first building" Fablo stated, all eyes were instantly attracted to him as he began to explain how they had faced the mutated zombie cat. Everything he said was true apart from how Edward's clothes got ripped, Fablo simply attributed everything to luck and no one bothered to question such a response as it was really the only logical explanation for the situation.

Luck!

"Hmm, if you say so then this kid must be very lucky indeed," white fang said and everyone nodded.

"Anyway, it's already getting late and I don't think you can return to your base right now. It would be inhumane if we left you all here, how about you all come back with us to our base? We have enough space for more people and our supplies could still last for a few more weeks if rationed properly"

Fablo looked at his group members, he would have rejected the offer even though it was the other party's kind gesture because he did not want to freeload off of white fang but seeing his teammates' exhausted faces made him reconsider.

In the end, Fablo accepted white Fang's offer after which they all left and headed for their settlement.
