Chapter 72 - Struggle Between Pawns

Chapter 72 - Struggle Between Pawns

“Freidrich Braun, cornered by both Christopher and Adam, at the verge of death, would have an awakening and reach the equivalent of a half-step Level 8 True God in the process. He would acquire greater control over destiny, and discovering the existence of the greater web of destiny that existed around him, would use that as a way to combat the two gods.”

Braun’s mind whirled at insane speeds as he decoded the soon-to-be present. The intimately familiar threads that covered every inch of the world he perceived provided him enough information to act optimally.

So I have plot armor, basically? Braun’s grin deepened as his body slowly returned to normal. The cracks closed and the hole on his stomach mended, regenerated by the constant stream of green light suffusing from the zenithral flames on his skin.

And they didn’t even bother to attack me while I was healing! Braun laughed. Perfect… Perfect!

As soon as he healed himself fully, he launched forward at breakneck speeds. Adam, although a True God, a true divine existence not tied to flesh nor blood, struggled to keep track of Braun’s movement.

Normally, gods specialized in traveling at immense speeds would utilize their divine authority to do so, and using their divine authority would leave traces of energy fluctuations. Using those energy fluctuations, Adam could use his divine authority to extrapolate data and follow their movements, but Braun was simply moving using his raw speed.

It was a speed attained through sheer, “mortal” strength.

Adam quickly erected a barrier of darkness around his body as he created a simple domain that would automatically erase all origins of attacks that would come his way.

As soon as Braun arrived in front of Adam and stepped into his domain, time rewound itself and Braun found himself standing back in the same spot moments prior.

Christopher swooped in at blitzing speeds. A sphere of white light hundreds of kilometers wide formed around Braun, sealing everything within. Time came to a pause as Braun’s body rapidly evolved and transcended. Soon enough, he would transcend the barrier’s sealed time and escape, but Christopher only needed a moment to launch an attack.

“Big Bang!”

The same chaotic mass of light once again appeared. In the center of the white sphere, right in front of Braun’s body, a swirling mass of colors caved in and expanded out at a rapid rate, swallowing the entirety of the space within the white sphere.

Just as it appeared, the light swiftly retreated, revealing the void within the white sphere.

Christopher tried to locate Braun within the barrier, but his heart skipped a beat when he noticed that Braun was missing and nowhere to be found.

“Reusing the same attacks on me?” A voice abruptly asked from behind as Braun stabbed his hand into Christopher’s chest. “That’s just a surefire way of letting me evolve even more!”

“Christopher will once again use the four fundamental forces and the primordial chaos to launch a new attack, helping Braun transcend the deepest foundations of the universe.”

Christopher subconsciously relied once again on another Big Bang attack since it was his strongest form of attack. Anything else in his arsenal would either be weaker or Braun would have already transcended them, forcing him to helplessly use his strongest yet increasingly ineffective attack.

A chaotic swirl of light formed behind Christopher’s back, which then exploded into an array of colors that swallowed the area behind him for thousands of kilometers. As the light receded, Braun’s battered and broken body, filled with cracks, revealed a playful grin.

Waving his hand, his hand that was poking through Christopher’s body slid down, slicing through his torso and pelvis.

Christopher had long erased the feeling of pain from his brain and swiftly retreated a distance away from Braun, reappearing right beside Adam.

Just as he was about to heal himself, he found the fatal wound on his body that would even potentially kill him if left unchecked disappear. Glancing at Adam, he nodded his head to show his gratitude and turned to look back at Braun.

After having received three consecutive Big Bang attacks, Braun’s body had undergone massive changes compared to before. His body seemed to be covered by a layer of extremely dense black substance, and the arachnid legs on his back extended out and became more massive in size.

Before Christopher and Adam could rest, one of Braun’s legs severed a thread of destiny and causality turned upside down. Tapping into the domains of history, truth, time, and origin, he erased the part of reality where Christopher teleported to Adam, reversing causality!

Then, tapping into the domains of the mind and causality, Christopher, who was essentially on the same level as Braun in terms of divine authority, received a newly weaved destiny.

“Christopher, surprised by Braun’s new technique, was unable to react to Braun’s movement speed that transcended the limitations of time and distance. He ends up receiving a fatal wound, one that would even potentially kill a Level 7 god such as him.”

Christopher spewed out blood from his mouth as once again, Braun’s hand pierced through his chest, this time from the front, and he swept his hand up into the sky, slicing him from the chest up into the middle of his head.

His skull was split open in the middle, revealing his squiggling brain. Adam, seeing this, rushed in to try and save Christopher from his approaching death.

“Although Adam knew about Christopher’s self-revival capabilities, now that the rest of the council members of Aegis had died, he needed Christopher’s help to reverse history and revive them all. If Christopher somehow truly dies here, Aegis’ foundation would take a big hit and the future of humanity would become grim.”

“Hence, Christopher’s survival is of the utmost importance. Exploiting this fact, Braun subconsciously implanted the idea into Adam’s mind that Christopher’s life is of higher importance than even his, giving Braun some room to exploit to his advantage!”

Braun silently watched as Adam appeared right before him, hand stretched out clad in a dark mass made up of an unknown substance. As it did so, the divinity-infused river of time connected to Christopher’s body began to reverse, with the wound on his head sliding down to the center of his chest rapidly closing on its own.

I’ll be borrowing your power for a bit, Christopher.

A dark green light glimmered in Braun’s burning eyes as the infinitely complex greater web of destiny around him was manipulated to his will. An endless number of threads poked into Christopher’s body, entangling with his body, mind, and soul.

For a moment, Braun felt as if he had come into contact with the very heart of the reality he called his home universe. An endless ensemble of chaos and order, creation and destruction, was relayed into his eyes.

Throughout that fleeting moment, his body didn’t stop moving as it followed a premeditated course of action. Just like manipulating a puppet back in the days he was a mortal, Christopher’s hands moved on their own and the black matter erupting out of Adam’s hands became his.

Adam widened his eyes as the dark matter capable of influencing the origin of all things suddenly got out of his control. It exploded outwards at a far faster rate, stabbing into Christopher’s chest.

Christopher’s body abruptly turned completely fine as soon as it happened except for the dark spike poking out of his chest. The bloody hole on his chest, the mangled line of flesh leading up to his head, his exposed brain and sliced skull, all of that disappeared abruptly just like how an artist would undo their mistake.

Then, Braun grabbed the black light poking out of Christopher’s chest with his eight arachnid legs. A dense layer of crystalline threads transformed into a liquid-like substance which was injected into the black lump through the tips of each leg, causing the illusory liquid to travel through the dark matter and into Adam’s very origin.

“Christopher, controlled by Braun like a puppet, would take control of Adam’s origin and use it to mutilate himself and give Braun an opportunity to come into contact with Adam’s origin. Having used his ability to control destiny, Braun erased parts of history and transferred that destiny onto Adam.”

“Amplified with Christopher’s help, plus zenithral augmentation, plus the greater web of destiny, in addition to being caught off guard by Braun’s sudden ability to use his own divine authority over Origin against his, Adam suffers a severe blow as two destinies of death were imposed onto him.”

A bright white line formed from the top of Adam’s head down to the bottom of his torso, with a dim white hole found in the center of his chest. Adam looked down at his body, his eyes rapidly losing their luster.

“As Braun rapidly transcends the greater web of destiny, manipulating his own future like a marionette puppeteering their own bodies, he tightens his control over Christopher just to keep him at bay for a single more second.”

“Adam, although suffering a fatal blow, still remained a True God with a divine form. The damage suffered by Christopher, a half-step Level 8, couldn’t compare to the vitality of a conceptual existence. “

“However, this was big enough of an opportunity for Braun to use to his complete advantage!”

Braun’s intellect rapidly rose as his ability to manipulate destiny rapidly evolved. His mind constantly shifted, as bit by bit, the hidden shackles that were bound to his destiny were breaking.

He stepped through the void, destroying everything in his path as the overbearing presence of otherwordly transcendence passively destroyed the world around him. Green flames flooded from every crack on the surface of Braun’s skin as he grabbed at Adam’s chest.

This has been a long time coming, Braun thought with a grin.

His hand pierced through Adam’s chest, stabbing through the gaping white hole.

“Braun’s rapidly evolving body finally grasped the intricacies of Origin, allowing him to even “affect Adam, a conceptual existence, a divine entity!

Crack crack!

The cracks scattered and deepened. The sound of breaking glass resounded across the empty halls of space just as Christopher regained consciousness.

The crystalline threads piercing into his body snapped in half and he quickly turned to look behind him. When he did so, he was met with a sight that made his soul tremble.

Adam flashed a grim smile as the cracks spread across his face. His eyes warped and his pupils turned pitch-black. Countless black threads formed around him and Braun, trapping the two in a cubic sphere.

“I never expected you to have already reached Level 8…” Adam grabbed Braun’s arm, pushing it deeper into his chest.

“Me too.” Braun grinned, his thoughts a bizarre mystery.

While Braun may have successfully landed the decisive blow, practically ending Adam’s life then and there, it didn’t mean he would be able to do so with such ease. Taking this opportunity, Adam decided to detonate his divine core and end Braun’s life in the resulting explosion.

“But he then realized that Braun may still live in the aftermath, so he hesitated on doing so at the very last moment. Fortunately, as his eyes locked with Christopher, he realized that if Christopher could reach Level 8, with his authority over the source of all creation, even Braun could be defeated!”

So, instead of detonating himself, he decided to deal a fatal blow to Braun’s origin while transferring his divine core to Christopher!

BOOM!

Braun coughed out a mass of gaseous, solid black and white substance from his warped mouth. An expanding field of black matter spread all throughout space, dragging the eldritch horror thousands of kilometers away.

The eldritch creature spat out threads from the tips of its spider-like limbs, attaching them to empty air as anchor points. Resisting the force of the wave of black matter, Braun stopped his rapid flight, stabilizing his position.

Just as he was about to look for his dear adversary, a beam of white light engulfed his vision, evaporating the godly monster in the glow of oblivion. As the light disappeared, Braun stood in the void, a large chunk of his body having disappeared.

“Wow.” Crystalline threads formed from the empty spots on his body. “You’re out for blood.”

Christopher roared with divine fury, his figure having transformed into a being of white radiance. Reality around him cracked as he traveled at the speed of light, dilating time to the extreme.

“BRAUNNNNNN!” The vengeful god manifested two gargantuan stars, slamming them together. “DIE!”

Braun grinned, mumbling to himself. “The final fight is here.”

Causality and destiny bent to his whim, and with a simple wish, the two colliding stars failed to go supernova. Instead, they perfectly fused with one another, becoming one, large star.

Then, with a mocking voice, the eldritch monstrosity said, “Strike my enemy true—Gaebolg.”

A divine spear, one crafted out of the fragments of history and time, a technique he directly borrowed from the librarian of Akasha, flew straight at the newly born star. An explosion soon came after, illuminating the entirety of the solar system, outshining the proud sun.
