Chapter 48 - Shirley

Chapter 48 - Shirley

The petite woman with brown hair tied into a ponytail continued to run across the dense forest as she seamlessly blended in with the shadows of the night. Her green eyes glowed dimly and she ran at an inhumane pace, traveling tens of meters in seconds.

Soon enough, she arrived deep into the forest and found an inconspicuous tree that appeared no different from the rest of the forest. The only thing that could be said to be unique about it was the tiny hole you could find on its trunk, but the hole’s size couldn’t even be considered large. It’s even smaller than the width of a person’s finger.

However, that was exactly the reason why they had chosen this tree to act as the anchor point of their pocket dimension.

As she slowed down her pace and willed her Level 3 Space-Time Manipulation ability to activate, a spatial-temporal signature formed at the tip of her fingers which she then pressed to the tiny hole on the tree’s trunk.

In the next moment, she felt the presence of the hidden pocket dimension anchored to the tree and immediately teleported into it.

When she opened her eyes, she was greeted by a barren rectangular-shaped room with barely any items inside it. All the base had was the essentials that would allow them to survive in the wilderness, such as food, water, reinforced weapons, and even clothing.

She didn’t bother to look around and instead kindled a small flame from the tip of her fingers. Fire-based abilities were more than common in the wild with monsters roaming around and her Level 1 Candle Wick ability was more than enough to destroy everything inside here.

Once everything is burnt, she could collapse the space itself and run like a madman.

I’ll continue to head south until I reach the closest city and lay low for a while. I’ll then raise the rest of my abilities to the peak of Level 3. She glanced at the tiny flame on the tip of her finger. I’m just glad that the core abilities of my combat system have already been found.

Just as she was burning the items strewn around in the small pocket dimension, she suddenly felt the whole space begin to wobble and shake, as if something was trying to forcefully penetrate through the pocket dimenion’s walls.

Wait… If they managed to locate our first base, then it’s not that unlikely for them to know about this place! This is a trap!

As she realized her mistake, a large crack burst open on the wall to her side, revealing the open night sky. A ghostly white hand as large as a giant boulder smashed its way into the pocket space and aimed straight at her petite figure.

Oh no, you won’t!

Her figure rapidly changed, with golden fur growing out of her skin and her eyes turning black and gold. Cat ears and a tail formed from her head and back, and her frame became shorter.

In less than a second, she transformed into a meter-long cat with gold skin and obsidian black eyes. She cried out loudly and using the superior physique of a monster, she broke out of the pocket dimension through the crack in space, narrowly avoiding the giant ghastly fist.

She then grew a bit in size, partially regaining her human form, albeit with cat-like features still present. Pulling out a gun from the fabric of space, she randomly aimed at the sky and wore a maniacal smile.

Guaranteed Hit! Spiritual Augmentation!

A milky white bullet flew out of her gun at supersonic speeds, far surpassing the limits of what a normal gun would be able to do. As the milky white bullet streaked across the air, it curved in a strange angle and shot downwards, arriving right in front of a ghastly figure formed entirely out of ghastly white light.

“Hmph!” the figure snorted and constructed a thin layer of light in front of them, blocking the bullet with ease.

Damn it, they’re really here for revenge. They must have revived themselves through their soul.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“You dumbass! You know there’s a fricking Demigod! We’ll both die if she arrives!” Although she was trying to reason with the ghostly figure, she still attacked and used her transformation’s natural ability.

Fortune Manipulation!

An invisible black miasma silently gathered around the ghost bastard and his luck had unknowingly fallen drastically.

Green flames then surged from her hand as they gathered around the normal pistol in her hand, transforming its shape and form. It turned longer and larger, with glowing blue lines forming across its metallic frame.

Spiritual Augmentation. Power Augmentation. Guaranteed Hit. Critical Hit.

A destructive beam of ghostly white light shot out of the cannon in her hand, which then rapidly split off into countless strands.

Through the vision provided by her mystical eyes, she could perceive the chances of each individual beam landing a critical hit. Those glowing brightly with golden light have a higher chance of success, while those glowing dimly with black light have a higher chance of failure.

She raised her arm, grabbing at those black lights.

Fortune Manipulation!

She absorbed the beams’ chances of failure, creating a blob of dark miasma which she then redistributed back to the ghostly bastard, further reducing his already awful luck.

The countless beams of light, all augmented to work on spiritual creatures and further amplified by power augmentation and zenithal power, arrived before the ghost with a 99% chance of landing a critical hit!

With a critical hit, the attack power of each beam would multiply by a random multiplier, with the minimum being at least twice its original strength.

This was her incredibly dangerous and terrifying power system! With her control over fortune, the ability to create powerful long-range weapons through zenithral power, the ability to augment her attacks through a variety of abilities, and the ability to guarantee her attacks would land, and even land critical hits, it all culminated into her comprehensive fighting prowess.

Don’t think I’m an easy target just because I rely heavily on luck and probability! I’m a first-generation avatar, the first of our kind! I’ve killed tens of us, absorbing their crystals and zenithral power for my own!

As the smoke slowly dissipated, all that was left of the ghostly figure was a tiny strand of their soul. Compared to their previous appearance, they appeared incredibly pitiful.

She breathed a sigh of relief to see that they were mostly dead. If not for the Demigod near the area, she would have gone ahead to blast some more to completely kill the guy, but she can’t afford to do so right now.

In front of a Demigod, her peak Level 3 fighting abilities are nothing but fancy tricks. She wouldn’t even be able to hurt them properly due to the higher authority they have over reality.

“Don’t think… you’ll be able to escape… after trying to kill me… Shirley!” a broken, ghastly voice rang in the air, and space was abruptly sealed.

Shirley stared at the sealed space with wide eyes.

Fuck, how are they still alive?! They have less than 1% of their soul for god’s sake!

Although she complained, due to the fact that they are so weak already, the seal they created could easily be broken. With a casual wave of her arm, she constructed a spatial blade and tore open a crack, allowing her to directly leave.

The only problem here was that standing in front of the crack was a woman with icy blue eyes, short black hair, and fair white skin covered in draconian scales.

Shirley froze both mentally and physically. She felt a swat of coldness drape over her as the domineering aura of a dragon completely froze her. For a moment, she felt like her body was at the North Pole. Her soul was drenched in a freezing ice bath, and all of her thoughts turned into cubes of ice.

Oh great, her authority of freezing breaches the domains of the physical, spiritual, and mental plane.

If not for the original continuously providing the data he gathered regarding the Demigods from the countless avatars’ personal encounters with them, she would have been downright frightened by the strange situation she was in right now where her thoughts were being frozen by seemingly normal ice.

Unfortunately, it still doesn’t change the fact that she was absolutely fucked right now and her chances of escaping were essentially none. Even with her ability to manipulate her own fortune and increase her chances of escaping, that’s as meager as turning 0.1% into 0.2%.

It seems like you’re in a dire situation right now… A voice abruptly rang in her mind, warming down her mind and allowing her to think more clearly for an instant.

The original? She immediately recognized the source of the voice.

You have quite the daring ascension plan with the abilities you’ve acquired. You plan on transforming Fortune Manipulation into Probability Manipulation, right? With that ability, you practically have a boundless future with so many routes of development to take.

Shirley remained silent. In front of the original, she didn’t dare think anything as she knew just how vile she, a Braun, could be.

Braun chuckled as he leaned forward.

“Look, I’m going to give you a chance here,” he said softly. “I’m removing the restriction of reaching Level 4 for you.”

Her mind was instantly shaken by his simple words, and before she could react, the zenithral flame inside her suddenly flickered with newfound light, turning a lot brighter compared to before.

He wasn’t joking… I can really ascend right now.
