Chapter 27 Little Demon

Chapter 27 Little Demon

The great expanse of the Yelsoman wastes is not easily traversed. During the summer months, airships would ferry people from one side of the other. When winter arrived and the high winds from the north began to shift southward air travel would cease entirely. It was during these winter months that caravans moved merchant goods from one side of the waste to the other. Where Milty was currently searching or her master was not anywhere close to where these caravans would travel.

"Master I can sense the boy, however, this storm will soon overtake us." [Lanhou]

Lanhou had been with his master Milty Trigel in the wastes following the young master Lanthim Frenost for the last six days. From the trail, he was leaving behind it was likely his ability to sense the world was being impaired due to the storms that had moved through the area over the last three days.

"If the weather had held he might have made his way to the other side by now." [Milty]

Looking at the area around them with the salt and sand blowing about hitting the sides of their faces milty simply waved her hand deploying a simple barrier spell without circles or incantation. Similar barriers she had seen being used by Lanthim in the past. It had been difficult to learn how magic without even an incantation could work. It would have been impossible for her to ask Lanthim for information on the subject. Simply put almost everytime he executed a spell it always would end up exactly as he wanted and he would never use it again. Unless it was some kind melee combat training he always seemed keen to train for a close range fight.

" With his mana stores so small I find his ability to keep any kind of spell active for very long astonishing. I'm amazed by the distance he could cover with just one casting."[Lanhou]

Looking to his feet, Lanhou marveled at what they were both standing in. Being almost six feet wide with a depth of two inches they had found themselves in a trench created by Lanthim when he had traveled through a storm in this area. How far east it actually went was unknown as the trench seemed to shift drastically from one direction to another.

"With the use of his regalia, he could run an active barrier for some time. It seems that he loses sensory depth though when he keeps a spell active for too long." [Milty]

"True I have not felt a shift in his presence in some time, there must be a storm ahead so he can't sense us. Now would be the time if we are to strike." [Lanhou]

True that their purpose here was to capture the young master however with themselves currently in a storm that would soon pass it was likely that the boy would move further from them if they waited for too long.

With the blowing salt and sand milling around them, the situation seemed troublesome. Looking out from the barrier showed nothing just a dull brown darkness. The only light was a small orb of fire that lanhou had created.

"The winds are calming master." [Lanhou]

Looking to the north both could begin to see breaks in the walls of salt. Sunbeams could be seen beating against the desolate land the salt refracting the sunlight in all direction blinding any who looked. Covering her eyes so not to hurt herself Milty began to sense someone else approaching them from the west.

"I can sense one of Reiflin's familiars coming this way something must have happened in the capital." [Milty]

It was not a strange thing for Reiflin to have one of her six Familiars this far out from the estate they had been the first sent out to find Lanthim when he first disappeared. They were also useful for communication seeing as if you talk with the familiar you are pretty much talking to their master in the same breath.

As the storm passed, milty dispelled the barrier where the trench had once been was now nothing but salt.

"We shall wait to see what news come from the capital." [Milty]

A sound decision on her part advancing not knowing if there was to be another instruction was not wise. Then again new anything from the capital would likely cause more of a hindrance than any actual help. Milty had already been ordered to retrieve Lanthim with force if necessary. Having been present when the young master had fought in the past, she knew that even with lanhou with her that this order was likely impossible.

"It looks like Nefoein master." [Lanhou]

"Indeed and in his human form as well." [Milty]

Both having turned to see who had just arrived distinguishing this familiar by his double tails. Reiflin seemed to have based her familiars on wolfs and foxes, nefoein being of the latter of the two.

"Milty Trigel I have come with instructions." [Nefoein]

Folding her arms, slowly milty prepared for whatever orders she would receive.

"Using myself as a beacon my master will be sending a group through a transportation gate to retrieve Lanthim Frenost from the wastes. You are to return to the Estate in Boucorym province immediately."

The frown that formed on milty's face filled lanhou and his counterpart with great fear. If not for Litralia requesting so for her to come and help her with raising lanthim milty would likely be out in some strange part of the world using her skills as a witch for some good being a rank six witch was not just for show she was when after graduation the academy considered potentially one of the most powerful witches of her generation.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

"Who are they sending that they seem to think it will be possible to bring him home without casualties?" [Milty]

Having been in this godforsaken salt pit for almost a week her, patients was already at the max. Having these new orders just added more to an already serious fire.

"The lady Mynrea has instructed one of her sons from her previous marriage to assist there will also be four others chose to join him." [Nefoein]

The three of them now stood within arms length of each other. Milty still was not satisfied with the answers she was getting from the familiar. Even if the person they were sending was a pure breed dragon it meant nothing Reiflin was also of the same and lanthim had defeated her. Suddenly a sound like the wind blowing throw the gaps in a small piece of pipe could be heard. An eerie howling that sounded like it was coming from their left.

Turning to see what was happening a portal opened before them. On one side five men prepared to make their way through, however, there seemed to be one extra, a young woman no more than twenty years old. Her pointed ears marked her as an elf even though her hair was not of the flowing silver of her mother but raven black. It was this woman that came through the portal first.

"Milty trigel I thank you for your hard work until now but we should be able to deal with this from now on."

"My lady Dethlyma I must counsel against any action towards your younger brother Lanthim at this time he will likely have already sensed your presence." [Milty]

Both women looked at each other one with concern and impatience the other calm and uncaring. Ever since the fourth breaking elves have held themselves higher than humans so to remind them how was better. Both sexes in the elvish race were able to use magic however, this was not so for humans.

"Even though you and my father's fourth wife may think such thing I do not. There is no possible way a human child, let alone a male could be strong enough to defeat a dragon or use magic he was likely just kidnapped and you are just running in circles because your inept." [Dethlyma]

Chuckling to herself the elf stepped from one side of the portal to the other. As she did so the look of confidence that had so vexed milty disappeared replaced with a look of terror and indescribable fear. Milty without thinking gave her hand to Dethlyma so to help her. on the other side of the portal confusion was seen in the faces of the other five.

"What is this feeling, it feels like I am being eaten from the inside out. Never have I sensed a presence like this in all my life." [Dethlyma]

Getting to her feet, she seemed dangerously off balance. From the other side of the portal, the others had come. Two quickly came to Dethlyma's side to help her. All had faces of discomfort including the dragon that had come with them. Having all of them come across the portal disappeared swiftly like it had never been there.

As milty looked to each of the newcomers she could see that they had no idea what they were in for.

"My lady my lords I welcome you to my master's domain." [Milty]

With a frightening smile on her face milty curtsied to her master's guests.

'They have not the slightest clue how powerful he is.'

She thought as she laughed to herself. As time past and everyone became more accustomed to the strangeness of what they were sensing the one that milty knew was a dragon came to speak with her she having moved from the group to try and grasp Lanthim's movements.

"Woman I have a question I would have you answer."

'Woman.' [Milty]

Milty's left brow rose immediately as well in her left hand an orb of fire was taking shape. Also, the amount of mana she was emitting was almost enough to be seen with the naked eye. Raising his hand and slowly backing away this man showed no intention of fighting.

"I seem to have said something amiss may I ask again a question of you miss Milty trigel?"

"You should have just said that from the beginning." [Milty]

Dispelling the orb as well as her mana milty returned to her calm serene self.

"If you have a question I will answer it but first I will require something in return." [Milty]

Both stood together not more than three steps apart. Looking east in the direction that Lanthim was making his way.

"What would that be."

The man asked his great dragon horns gleaming in the sunlight they seemed to have formed in a semi-spiral with the point advancing forward at thirty-five degrees upwards.

"I would ask your name." [Milty]

"Ah my name well I am known as Eldra Nyrotral and I would like to ask you before we divert any further one thing." [Eldra]

"What would that be?"

Feeling a little concerned now that she might have driven the conversation on for too long Milty turned her attention to his question whatever it might be.

"I would like you to tell me exactly where the little demon is right now."
