Blood rushes up into your ears as you madly dash through darkened hallways, covered in strange pulsating veins, and quickly leap up several flights of steps before slowing down to a crouch. A single patrol of heavily armored guards in black steel caps and chainmail appear to your right, their eyes scouring the corridor. You haven't been spotted yet but it is only a matter of time. There is a room to your left you could duck into, but there was a chance you could be rushing headlong into more danger. In which case you're probably be better off dealing with this fairly small group quickly.
"It appears that you are safe for the moment, master. The guards have yet to realise you've escaped, but that will not last long. Might I suggest we continue moving on," said Daedalus.
Nodding your head in agreement, you reluctantly pull yourself upright and scan the room when you spot a dust laden chest hidden away at the back of the room with only a single dim gem attached to the wall providing light.
Excitement bubbling in your chest at the thought of discovering possible riches, you cautiously advance towards it, pull aside the carpet that lay strewn over it before inspecting the chest covered in ancient runes. "Daedalus do you know what this says?"
After a brief momentary pause, he replies, "Erie almerhurse. Efierfeat nuiforld. Here lies Balmera the Cursed. Defier of death and ruin of worlds."
Well, that didn't sound good. You've not heard of this Balmera, but the fact that the mages had collected her remains and placed them inside a chest, which was more than likely enchanted did not bode well for opening it. Although, if this Balmera was truly an enemy of the dark mages would it not prudent to at least take a peek inside?
Hands hovering over the chest, you move your fingers towards the clasp and hear a slight hum at the back of your mind, that grows stronger the closer you get, until finally unable to resist the temptation, you blast open the lock with a firebolt and heave it open. (- 4 Mana)
Inside lying at the bottom of the chest are a pair of gloves made up of the same fabric as the cloak as well as the ashes of the dead.
Daedalus lets out a thrum of exultation that vibrates through you. "I had hoped this tower would contain a piece of me, but I had not dared to think they would risk bringing it here, away from the island. Come now master, let me show what true power is."
Wary of Daedalus eagerness to be reunited, you wonder if you should wait to put it one, but can't help but be feel an insatiable curiosity yourself at the capabilities that could be unlocked by these gloves.
Soft as velvet and black as night, you pick them up and slowly slide them on, feeling awash with new energy that fizzles inside of you. (+50 Mana. However should it be destroyed or it is unable to adsorb all the damage, some of the damage will leak to you.)
Unable to help but smile at the incredible power that flows within you, you open and close your fists, feeling the magic bubbling inside of your veins eager to be released. So this was what it meant to be a mage. Power at your fingertips and a whole world ripe with opportunities.
Clenching your fist, you stride towards the doorway to test your new found powers when you hear something rustle behind you.
Half turning, you gape in awe as the ashes from the chest stir and begin to form into flesh and bone. The ashes flowing up into the air to take shape, revealing first a slim torso, limbs, than skull, until finally a woman emerges to stands before you, completely dressed in fine blue robes that are cinched at her waist by a golden belt, her dark brown hair curled up into ringlets and startling green eyes staring at you with keen interest.
Her red lips curl into a delicious smile as crooks her head to the side, before gliding past you to exit the room without a single word. Soon shouts, screams, guttural moans of agony shatter the silence, followed by the clamor of battle as steel rings on steel.
Trembling at the way she had frozen you in place with a simple glance, you shake your head and tentatively wonder what the hell just happened, although you are fairly certain you don't want to find out but it's too late for recriminations now. Whoever she was, she was free now and wreaking havoc within the tower. All of which would play to your advantage, with the dark mages distracted you could freely explore the tower. But where to go?
Daedalus ever present in your thoughts, chimed in, "Well from what I can remember master, there are several areas of the Tower, I would say were worth exploring. There's the armory which is located just above us, presumably this is where they store their weapons. The enchantery two or more floors above us, where they imbue items with magical abilities and store potions and what not. The slave quarters which should be fairly close to the armory, and the treasury room, which resides at the bottom of the tower and is usually guarded by a dragon. At leastwise that's how they were usually guarded during my time. Although I hear mages have become quite fond of demons. Folly if you ask me, there are only a handful of demons you can trust and most of those are dead."
2. Do you make your way to the Enchantery?
The thought of looting the Enchantery where the dark mage's keep their imbued items is simply too enticing for you to pass up. Plus there was a great likelihood that you would never get an opportunity like this again.
Asking Daedalus to guide your steps, you slip out of the room and back into corridor to see dozens of guards armored in black fighting huge, bestial creatures with crimson red skin, thick black horns growing out from their skulls, and pointed spikes protruding from their bare backs, wielding massive battleaxes.
But even with the odds so far stacked against them, the three demons were tearing through the black armored guards, obliterating skulls and chopping them in half. Shredding their ranks apart. But all of that could change once the dark mages entered the battle, so it might be best too hurry along. Although, you wouldn't mind staying back to see what happens next and loot a few corpses.
(Click here if you wish to wait and loot the corpses.)
Spoiler: Spoiler
Deciding you'd rather not let an opportunity go to waste, you press yourself closer to the walls, feeling it's oily surface on your skin and hope the shadows are enough to conceal you.
With barely a handful of guards left, the demons though wounded advance upon the remaining warriors, stepping over the mutilated corpses of the dead, hefting battleaxes with bits of red flesh still attached to the jagged edges.
The guards even in the face of death move in to meet them when a group of dark mages barrel around the corner to confront the demons. Arms waving, they let loose a barrage of fireballs, lightning and ice shards to drive the demons back, slaying one of outright and sending the other two falling back.
One of the dark mages, a tall stately woman in silk black robes, barked fresh commands to her companions and soon more than half of the mages along with the remaining guards gave chance with more than a few dark mages splitting off from the rest to head in your direction.
With no chance to loot the dead, you decide it would be best to not linger here any longer and quickly edge your way along the corridor before sprinting away. Shouts and blasts of magic come from behind you as one of the mage's catches sight of you, a fireball smacking solidly against your back.(-50 Health points. Elemental Damage.)
Reeling from the pain, you put on another burst of speed and manage to lose the mages in the twisting corridors, before leaning down to gasp for air, the wound on your back throbbing.

Spoiler: Spoiler
Preferring caution to rashness, you continue along the winding corridor catching glimpses of demons battling armored guards with dark mages joining the turmoil of battle, adding their magic to the overwhelming noise that crashes over the tower. Daedalus carefully guiding your steps to avoid them.
Resting briefly beside another staircase, you let Daedalus' voice lead you up the blackened blocks of stones, where he cautions you to wait, when fighting erupts from below you as well as above. Daedalus whispering to you that two large groups are converging on the staircase and that there is no way around them.
Fingers clenching, you let out a muted growl at being pinned down, unable sneak past the enemy. Skill in battle could only take you so far and without proper room to maneuver you would be seriously hampered in these tight quarters. No, it was time to toss the bones and see what landed, fingers or toes.
Gritting your teeth, you clamber up the last few steps towards the landing and enter a corridor, where a large host of ogrekans, orcs and dark mages are gathering. No doubt in preparation for retaking the tower.
Unfortunately they block the only way forward and as soon as you appear, the mage's let loose a hail of magic that cracks the air and thunders around you. The warriors surging forward with a cry of primal rage to begin their assault.

Taking no unnecessary risks, you snap your eyes shut and release a spectacular burst of white light that almost penetrates your eyelids. The brilliant white glow briefly blinding you, causing tears to drip down your cheeks as you scramble inbetween the dazed warriors frozen in place, the mages blindly throwing balls of fire to slay their own warriors as you dodge and weave.
Free of the corridor, you go left and sprint forward along a wide passageway that leads to a great hall guarded by half a dozen dark mages.

Excited by the prospect of testing your new found powers, you snap your eyes shut and release a spectacular burst of white light that almost penetrates your eyelids. The brilliant white glow briefly blinding you, tears dripping down your cheeks.
Hands clenched into balls by your sides, you draw the bubbling energy into your arms and raise them up,hurling huge balls of fire that blast into the dazed warriors, blowing them apart, their flesh blackened and burnt by the scorching heat. The mages haphazardly firing back at you blindly in attempt to stop your attack, only to scream out in pain and terror as their robes are engulfed by flames. The corridor filled smoke and death.

By the time you are done, the corridors are lined with piles of smoldering corpses, ancient tapestries burnt to ash and blackened scorch marks scarring the surface of the tower.

With a wry grin on your lips, you race forward to meet the advancing ogrekans, before swerving aside at the last second to roll forward, blades, axes and blasts of energy hissing all around you as you try your best to avoid being surrounded.
A lucky hammer stroke smashes you across the back of your shoulders and sends you flying forward into the arms of a mage who tries to raise her hands to release a spell when you headbutt her and roll away, an axe slamming down to snatch the life right out of her. (-60 Health points.)
Scrambling to your feet, you continue running forward and catch a glimpse of the enemy forming a wall of steel to block off your escape before it explodes apart as demons pour up the staircase, led by a terrible beast in crimson plate armor that exudes an energy of palpable malevolence.
Their attention split between you and the advancing demon host, you manage to break through the wall of steel but not without catching a blade on the arm that leaves a deep bloody gash.(-40 Health points.)
Steel grinds against steel, screams ring out and fire soon fills the corridor as the two sides come together in a wail of death that would have seemed beautiful if it were not so terrifying that you'd be caught in the middle.
Snatching a blade from the arms of a dead warrior, you claw your way free of the chaos, taking cuts and scrapes along the way and make a swift left turn (-50 Health points), before sprinting forward along a wide passageway that leads to a great hall guarded by half a dozen dark mages.
(If you are Dark Mage, you could try to talk your way past. Dark Mage Race Only.)
Spoiler: Spoiler
With a sneer on your lips, you purposefully stride towards the small group of mages huddled together like cowards, their nerves shaken by the sounds of battle going on below. Lowest of the low, these scum were not fit to even serve as the slaves that tended to their every needs. Something you would need to rectify once you returned home in glory to rebuild the majesty and power of the dark mages of old. Mages of incredible power able to commit feats that would boggle the mind, testing the very limits of magic.
Rivalries, corruption, and weakness had weakened the towers, but you would make them strong again, but first to deal with these quivering novices. Though you could sense they were much weaker than you, they still outnumbered you six to one, so it might be better to play it safe and talk your way through, instead of burning them alive like you so dearly wished.
One of the mages a young redling with pale leathery skin and a mop of curly black hair was the first to see your approach, the boy barely old enough to carry the faint mustache on his lips. "May the darkness cover your steps brothers."
"And the darkness hide your deeds," you reply in a cold hard voice before demanding, "Why are you not below defending the tower?!"
The redling's left eye began to twitch nervously. "Th, the, La, lady Dolmer asked us to stay here and guard this place."
You stare behind him at great hall, devoid of all life, except for the sputtering of flames in the braziers, before raising a left eyebrow up in mockery at the poor excuse. "Defending what?!"
Skin reddening, the redling turned to his companions as though hoping they would step in to aid him, but even they seemed to realise the futility of such an argument.
Shaking your head in bitter disappoint at these would be mages, you point your finger back towards the staircase. "You've shirked your duties to the tower long enough. Pray well, I do not see you again or there will be no more than words."
Bobbing their heads dutifully, the novices quickly scrambled to obey leaving you alone once more, a small smile appearing on your lips at the ease with each you had gotten rid of them. If they lived through the battle, they would become better mages for it and if not, well it was better to be rid of the weak, there was enough of that here to make your stomach turn.

Spoiler: Spoiler
Dealing with mages was never ideal, especially from a distance such as this and outnumbered six to one but closing the gap would be equally as difficult if not much more dangerous considering their abilities.
Moving your fingers through the air in the motions imprinted in your mind, you launch fireball after fireball at the clustered mages who seeing the huge balls of fire approaching them, quickly scattered to try and escape the roar of the flames. Most of them taking to their heels to flee with only two remaining behind to fight back, countering with much weaker fireballs that sputtered and died away midway in the air.
Smirking, you advance upon them, fingers dancing through the air to continue your barrage, driving them further back, before sending two firebolts zipping through the air to set their robes alight, the mages screaming in agony as they tried to put out the flames, their lives slowly extinguished.
A much easier victory than you had anticipated, you stride over towards the entrance to the great hall where their bodies still twitched, the smell of burnt meat in your nostrils and let out a gasp of surprise at the sight of the two mages or to be more precise, the two novice mages. The pair of them barely older than twenty years between the two of them. One a young gnome and the other a redling with a faint black mustache and mop of curly black hair.
Stomach roiling in turmoil, you try to quench your disgust and placate yourself with the idea that any that joined the tower were innately evil, but even that was not enough to stop the queasiness you felt in your belly at thought of what you've done.

Spoiler: Spoiler
Dealing with mages was never ideal, especially from a distance such as this and outnumbered six to one but closing the gap would probably be the best way to deal with them quickly without getting into a prolonged battle that could draw more enemies.
Blade flashing into your palm, you race forward along the gloomy corridor when one of the dark mage's spots your approach and warns the others causing a rain of fire, lightning and ice. The magic slapping against your face, arms and chest to burn skin, and cut flesh, but to your surprise many of the spells are extremely weak and ineffectual with many of the spells faltering midway. (-20 Health points Elemental resistance.)
The gap closing rapidly, you let out a growl of primal rage that vibrates through you and watch in delight as most of the mages turn on their heels to flee, leaving behind only a single dark mage desperately trying to form a large fireball only to see it die away at their fingertips.
Blade diving forward, you move in deal a mortal wound when you momentarily caught off guard by his youthful appearance. The lone dark mage, a youthful redling with a faint mustache and curly mop of black hair. You realise then that you were facing a novice,an untrained novice. Quelling the bloodlust rising high inside of you, you spin to the left bypassing the mage and hammer the pommel of your hilt against the redling's skull dropping him silently to the ground.
For a moment you stand there, staring down at him, unsure what to do next, before deciding to strip him of his clothes and potions. Whoever he was, he was no longer a threat and the clothes could prove to be useful to you. (Acquired Novice Robes +1 Resilience, and a single Mana potion (+15 Mana.)

Spoiler: Spoiler
Novice or not, the redling was still your enemy and with that last parting thought, your blade glides across his throat, before stabbing in and out of his belly. The mage staring at you with wide brown eyes as he grabs onto your arms, blood spilling out from between his lips in dribbles as he tries to speak before sliding down to the floor to lie still.
Staring down at his body, you wonder if you should have let him live, but quickly banish that thought aside. The code for survival was simple, leave no enemy alive for they were bound to haunt you one day. It was a harsh code, but one that had kept you alive for many years.
Kneeling down, you quickly sift through his pockets, taking a Mana potion (+15 Mana.), consider taking the robes, but the robes were far too drenched in blood and torn to be useful.
Entering the great hall, your foot steps echo as you pass long rectangular tables spread out all across the massive chamber, braziers lighting the immense columns that were fashioned into snarling demons of all kinds. Fiends, Dreads, Imps, Spawnlings, and Carriers all standing watch, while above them all carved into the stone overhead with eyes painted crimson red was a Celestial demon with wings fanned out across the top of the hall. An imposing statue that appeared almost half life with an expression of pure malevolence that might have drowned those too weak to resist.
Shoulders stiffening, you weave your way through the room and look up as you pass inbetween the Celestial's monstrous feet and feel a shiver run through your spine that only vanishes once you leave the great hall behind.
Nearing your target, you pick up the pace and climb up the next staircase to the level above where Daedalus cautions you to wait once more before urging you on, taking you through a well lit hall filled with stone statues that line the walls to either side. Their solemn expressions and black robes, somehow reminding you of the Lightbearer temple in Tarriel.
Body tense, you cross through the rows of statues towards a great door made of pure obsidian stone that glows with unnatural light with no visible handle.
You open your mouth to ask Daedalus how to open it when the answer comes to you, words written in fire appear at the center. "Nlhos itrea oweante." Daedalus whispered translation,"Only those with great power may enter."
(Click here if you press your hand onto the door, hoping to unlock it with your mana.)
Spoiler: Spoiler
Pressing your fingers into the cold hard stone, you feel the magic inside of your veins become agitated, when suddenly a wave of agony washes through your veins burning white hot as though it were boiling inside of you.
Screaming, you desperately try to pull yourself free but the stone seems to have taken control of your body, not allowing you to move when abruptly it ends leaving you utterly exhausted. (Remove all Mana.)
Panting, you angrily punch at the stone, grazing your knuckles when suddenly the doors begin to grind open, the thick slabs of stone splitting apart evenly down the middle revealing a room filled with a strange pink and blue lights that swirl around the room, dancing like flames in the air. While scattered across the room are alchemy desks covered in mortars, pestles, potions as well as large wooden chests and circular platforms carved with ruins that look like they may have been used for enchantments.
But the strangest sight of all were the cages hanging overhead head filled with half starved goblins, hobs, bellowhearts and all manner of other creatures that exist upon Coroleya. Probably used for experiments, the creatures at first shy away from the light of hall before staring down at you hungrily with drool dripping from mouths.
Covering your mouth to block out the noxious stench, you cautiously begin your search for anything of value, when the goblin's start to thrash about in their cages, letting out loud ululating cries that deafen the chamber.
Having come too far to be distracted from your goal, you begin pilfering as many potion bottle as you can carry before moving onto the chests to flip them open and look inside. (+10 Potions, 6 Mana and 4 Health each giving +15 each.). Most of the items are fairly average and of little use, but you do come across an incredible looking globe that heals your scrapes and cuts. (Globe of Rejuvenation, +50 Health points for every Third Scenario.)
You also find a hidden panel in one the chests, revealing a gleaming set of silver armor that is feather light and extremely durable. (Silver Wolf Mail +10 Resilience. Resilience increases by 5 once life drops below half. Also allows you to summon the Silver Wolf to act as your companion twice per chapter.)
