Chapter 38 - About Kismet Coins

Chapter 38 - About Kismet Coins

“What is so important that you wish to speak with me alone, Master Jin?” Coming into Jin Hennessy’s abode, Dam Son was directed to sit by a table where he would be comfortable.

“Listen well to what I’m about to tell you brat.” Jin Hennessy joined Dam Son around the table while sipping on his bottle of wine. He took a few gulps, wiped his mouth clean of alcoholic beverage then gave his lips to Dam Son’s keen ears. “This morning shortly after you left, several no-good characters showed up out of nowhere on my mountain peak. Are you listening?”

“I am, Master Jin.”

“Those men are members of the infamous Vage Gang that is hidden somewhere within Raixom Academy. They are a bunch of unscrupulous characters, one you don’t want to entertain.”

Dam Son asked curiously, “Why did they visit you, Master Jin?”

“Why do you think brat?” Jin Hennessy gave Dam Son a dark glare. “They were obviously after that damn Kismet Coin that you stole from them.”

“What?” Dam Son touched his head in amazement. “So they were after this thing? But I didn’t steal it. One night I was coming from the institute and I found it lying on the street.”

“I don’t care how you got in possession of it. The important matter is that you’ve already merged your Guide with its Abyss Script. Now that you’ve attained a Kismet Coin, you’ve automatically become a target of the infamous Vage Gang.”

“Why, what is so important about these coins protruding my forehead? If it is going to cause me great trouble then I’ll just give it back to the owners.”

“It isn’t that simple to get rid of an Abyss Script. That is a process that cannot become undone unless you are close to death or dead.”

“Then would those people kill me to get at it?”

“Without a doubt in my mind. Their leader is a man who detests failure to its highest degree. He will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.”

“If this person and his gang members are so dangerous, why hasn’t the academy done anything to stop their menacing ways? Why condone their tyranny?”

“You think they haven’t tried to uproot the infamous Vage Gang? Even as we speak there’s an ongoing investigation to locate their main hideout and accomplices. These bastards are using the students of Raixom Academy as guinea pigs to test out their diabolical experiments. If they weren’t hidden like rats, they would have been dealt with long ago by the academy’s enforcers.”

“Why hasn’t any of this made public knowledge to all of the students of Raixom academy?”

“To avoid a mass panic of course. The situation hasn’t blown out of proportion as yet because so far, none of the missing students has turned up dead, only slightly injured and have temporal memory loss. Nonetheless, the Vage Gang shouldn’t be undermined.”

“I see.” Dam Son absorbed everything Jin Hennessy was telling him. The main thing that intrigued him the most was the existence of Kismet Coins. “So Master Jin, when are you going to elaborate on the properties of the Kismet Coin?”

“I was about to get there you impatient brat.” Downing another bottle of wine, Jin Hennessy wiped his lips then said, “From my knowledge of the subject, Kismet Coins are very rare Magical Trinkets.”

“Magical Trinkets? I’ve heard that term before.” Dam Son remembered the lesson taught by Elder Shao Lin during his Word Mage Mastery class.

“I’m sure you’ve heard of it but these types of Magical Trinkets are on another level. They have the ability to alter reality on a drastic scale.” Pausing for a moment, Jin Hennessy cut open the lid of another bottle of wine and gulped it down. “Kismet Coins are one of a kind existence derived from the creation of Abyss Scripts. These types of scripts are seldom given birth to by Abyss Word Beasts, menacing creatures which sometimes escape the Darklands of Vocabular.”

“The Darklands of Vocabular?” Dam Son had no idea what that place was like.

“The Darklands is a terrible place, one that has been sealed off centuries ago by our indomitable Compass Guardians. The dangerous Mother of Grammar and her minions of the Hellphabet once conquered that major part of Vocabular. They left behind a toxic wasteland that none of Vocabular’s citizens could ever hope to survive in. From the ashes of despair arose many tyrannical embodiments, few of which are the Abyss Word Beasts.”

“Oh…” Dam Son listened carefully in downright silence to what Jin Hennessy was teaching him.

“Now back to the main topic.” Jin Hennessy downed 2 more bottles of wine before he continued, “As I’ve mentioned earlier, Kismet Coins possesses the capability of being able to alter the flow of reality. So far, 6 types of Kismet Coins have been documented that I’m aware of. The most unpredictable and dynamic one is the Black Kismet Coin of Realism. That is the one that you’ve somehow managed to assimilate with. It is unstable to such an extent that it has been deemed the most dangerous of its ranks. That’s why I’ve taken the liberty to seal it away. Brat, make sure that you never use it again. There is no telling what might happen. Do you understand me?”

“I’m not sure.” Dam Son answered vaguely. “The last time I used it, the Kismet Coin amplified my Natural Verb Force affinity by leaps and bounds. So is it really that dangerous?”

“You damn brat!” Jin Hennessy seemed upset to hear this. “Let me ask you something, did you intentionally wish for your Natural Verb Force to be amplified back then?”

“No, I didn’t.”

“Then there you have it. The Black Kismet Coin cannot be intentionally controlled. The results you get when you utilize it aren’t fixed. It is more of a gamble with your life.”

“I do understand that master, but…”

“But nothing!” Jin Hennessy lashed his tongue at Dam Son, causing much alcoholic spittle to caress his face. “You will do as I say brat! From now on don’t even think of utilising that Kismet Coin again, got it?”

“Yes sir!” Dam Son felt threatened by Jin Hennessy’s cumbersome pressure, he had no choice but to agree for now. “It’s not like I can get this seal off my head anyway so I believe there will be no trouble in that department, Master Jin.”

“Good, good, very good.” Jin Hennessy was pleased to hear this. Whenever he felt happy, drinking wine became that much sweeter.

“I have something else I wish to ask.” Dam Son proceeded to say, “Earlier you mentioned that there were 6 types of Kismet Coins that you are aware of. You’ve already told me about the black one, what are the other 5?”

“The other 5?” After swallowing a mouthful of wine, Jin Hennessy replied to Dam Son’s enquiry. “The other 5 are White Kismet Coin of Understanding. As the name implies, this Kismet Coin allows its user to comprehend certain aspects of reality. Next, there is the Blue Kismet Coin of Exploration. I believe you can go anywhere with this one. The other 3 are Green Kismet Coin of Restoration, Red Kismet Coin of Evolution and Purple Kismet Coin of Destruction. Are you satisfied now Brat?”

“Very much so teacher.”

“Hey, don’t call me that.” Jin Hennessy felt embarrassed to be referred to as a teacher. “Brat remember what I’ve told you. Don’t ever share your secret with anyone else, not even those classmates of yours. The Vage Gang have spies everywhere. If they discover that you’re the holder of the Black Kismet Coin, they will stop at nothing to retrieve it. The seal I’ve placed on you should last a while.”

Dam Son commented, “I understand how serious the situation is now. Thank you so much for helping me out, Master Jin.”

“Yes, whatever. I’ve said what I needed to, now get the hell off my mountain!” Jin Hennessy’s boisterous voice blasted Dam Son from around the table, landing him near the exit of the abode.

Dam Son got up; quickly dusted off himself then headed towards the exit. “Thanks again, Master Jin. See you tomorrow!” Dam Son’s voice faded in the distant perspective.

“Damn brat…” Jin Hennessy downed another bottle of wine until he felt the drunkenness kicking in. “Burp!”
